Last night, I got up totally mentally prepared to do a long run in the rain. I had my clothes all picked out and a rain parka ready to go and everything. Part of me was pretty excited to run in the rain because I thought it might be good practice for Boston (realistically, it could rain during the Boston Marathon! Gosh, I really hope it doesn’t though!)

But this morning I woke up at 5am and we looked outside and saw it was going to be a beautiful day! I laid in bed til 5:30a before finally getting up. It was so nice to enjoy breakfast and check some emails before I headed out to run.

I met up with my Dana-Farber teammate, Peter and we started our run! It was a little chilly, but when you get a gorgeous day like this, you just have to enjoy it!

We ran at Balboa Park which is actually is a flood basin, so all the roads around the park were closed to traffic. It was awesome being able to run in the middle of the street. It felt so rebellious. There’s nothing better than a wide open street to run on. It was very exciting.

My plan for the day was 15 miles (per my training schedule), but Peter convinced me to just do the whole 18 with him. He’s nuts, but he knows what he’s doing, so I committed to the full 18. Eeek!

We stopped a few times to use the restroom and shed some layers, and at one of the stops, I snapped a few photos. hee hee.

(sorry, couldn’t rotate the picture!)

We stuck to our trusty 5:5 intervals for the whole time. For the most part, it was pretty easy to maintain. I struggled a little bit around mile 12-14, but then I got a second wind. If I can do 18 now, what’s another 8 for the marathon right?! It was a huge confidence booster.

Because I can’t do math in my head after running 18 miles, we ended up overshooting and did a total of 18.25 miles. I was DONE with a capital “D” at the end. I felt great, but very happy to be done.

We did 18.25 miles in 3 hours, 52 minutes and 58 seconds with an average pace of 12:45.

Here are the splits:
Mile 1:  11:57
Mile 2:  11:31
Mile 3:  11:29
Mile 4:  13:58
Mile 5:  14:43
Mile 6:  11:31
Mile 7:  12:42
Mile 8:  12:45
Mile 9:  11:35
Mile 10:  12:45
Mile 11:  12:45
Mile 12:  12:28
Mile 13:  12:14
Mile 14:  12:20
Mile 15:  13:29
Mile 16:  13:01
Mile 17:  13:07
Mile 18:  13:42

After the run, I ate my 20 Gram Protein Bar, guzzeled more water, took a shower, and then a nap. 🙂 And I feel great. I dont even feel like I ran today, not a tinge of soreness. Maybe it will sink in tomorrow, but all in all, I feel like a million bucks.
Speaking of a million bucks, I am getting closer and closer to my fundraising goal for Dana-Farber. I appreciate everyone’s support! This is such an amazing cause, and I am proud to be on the team. Donate Here
