My mom gave me an herb garden for my birthday….two and a half years ago! And I’m just NOW getting around to planting it. Sad, I know. But honestly, I was (and still am) afraid. I have a horrible history of killing plants, and I really really really don’t want to screw this up. But I did my research and finally decided to get real and at least give it a try.
The kit came with a ton of different seeds, but I decided to take it a little at a time and try a few basic ones first. I’m trying Basil, Chives, Thyme, Parsley and Dill.
I followed the directions exactly and soaked my seeds overnight. (Is this how you soak them? Who even knows if I sabotaged my baby herbs before they were even born!)
The kit came with soil pellets that looked like little brown discs.
But after soaking in water for five minutes, they exploded!
Into a whole tray of moist soil. I planted them last week, but I didn’t want to post it on the blog in case they never sprouted. But I’m happy to say that I saw my first seedling today!
I’m not quite sure if that is chives or thyme, but its green and it’s alive!!! I’m a proud mama. But I need a little help… doesn’t that look like mold around the base of the green one?
What do I do if it IS mold? Oh man, this is so stressful!
I kind of want one of these! I always want to buy herb plants, but I always end up killing anything green that comes into the house.
I bet you’ll be better at it than you think! Your sheer determination will be enough. 🙂
haha thanks. And if determination doesn’t work… i’ll threaten them. =)
I got something like that with tomatoes last summer. It didn’t grow. I was sad. I’m wishing you much better luck, though it seems you don’t need. Nice sprouts!
Awe, Sorry about Tomatoes! I hear those are hard to grow. I’m crossing my fingers!! Thanks!
