Baby’s First Rock Concert May 5, 2012

I’ve been dying to see Coldplay live for SO long! They are one of my favorite bands and I didn’t want to miss them this time around! Tickets went on sale months ago and I pretty much just told Irving we were going no matter what. He reminded me that I’d be almost 9 months pregnant, but we decided to go for it anyways. Baby loves good music.

The show was at the Hollywood Bowl and for some reason we got there 2.5 hours before the show started. I should know better that shows never start at the time on the ticket. We clearly don’t go to enough concerts.

Everyone in the audience was given one of these funky 80s bracelets and were so excited to see what they were for.

Turns out they were actually part of the show. They all lit up different colors to the beat of the music they were playing. It was so cool to see thousands of them blinking in rhythm at the same time.

Here’s a video I found on Youtube:

We loved the show, they had tons of energy and the lasers, lights and wristbands were really fun.

But we were surprised that all those wristbands went to waste after. They didn’t recycle them or have collection bins. Kind of a bummer.Coldplay at Hollywood Bowl (5)

I think the baby liked the show, I could feel him/her dancing around in there.

Now we’re more excited than ever to play this CD over and over when the baby gets here! YES!

Salzburg: The Hills are Alive October 7, 2011

(Just one more Trip Recap post left after this one! Bringing it back to Salzburg!)

We awoke on September 10th in beautiful Salzburg. Our bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to leave the hotel, but we had an exciting day planned. I would never sleep away a day in Europe. Too many fun things to explore!
IMG_9683

We had Clif Bars for breakfast and jumped right into our Sound of Music Tour! When I did this tour in 2003 it was in a small 8 person van. This time, we were on one of TWO huge coach busses filled with tourists. I was a little annoyed, but it was still an excellent tour.
IMG_9708

The tour brings you to all of the famous shooting locations for the film. Recognize this? It’s where the back patio and lake scenes were shot. Remember when the kids tipped over the canoe?!

We didn’t get too close, but this is where they shot the front of the house (see that yellow building in the background?) It’s also where Maria sang I Have Confidence when she first arrived at the Von Trapp house.
IMG_9699

And right around the corner from that is where we were yesterday (at the Crazy Fountain Palace). We were so glad we took pictures the day before because this is what it looked like today:
IMG_9702

We got a brief glimpse of the abbey up on the hill:
IMG_9710

And then we headed off into the countryside to see a bit of the lakes region and a few more filming locations. The scenery was absolutely beautiful.
IMG_9733

Is this where Maria sang The Hills are Alive? I don’t think it actually was, but any of these hills looked like they’d be excellent contenders. I love Austria, seriously everywhere you look there was something gorgeous to look at.

Next time I come back here I’m going to explore the outdoor activities a little more. See the skydiver?!
IMG_9740

After a bit of driving, we arrived into the town of Mondsee where the wedding chapel scenes were filmed. Where Maria married the Captain.

We had an hour for lunch so we found a cute restaurant across the street>

And ordered some quick pizzas. Delicious!

After the tour, we drove back to Salzburg and watched some of the scenes from the movie on the bus. Once we got back we explored Mirabell Gardens where most of the Do Re Mi sequence was filmed. Remember this scene?

Here it is! Irving looks like Friedrich doesn’t he? “I’m Friedrich. I’m fourteen and I’m impossible”. LOL

And remember this?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just a week after we got back from our trip, we went to the Sound of Music sing-a-long at the Hollywood Bowl.
IMG_8032
We try to go every year because it’s just so much fun. This year was extra special since we just got back from Salzburg!
IMG_8035
Erica brought popcorn (love that girl!) and we brought Mozart Balls to share. I love me my Mozart balls! Anyone know if you can buy these in the states?
IMG_8040 IMG_8030
Before the show, all of the actors who played the Von Trapp kids came out on stage!
IMG_8044
My favorite part was when the (super hot) Captain sings Edelweiss and everyone holds up their cell phones. So funny. I love bowl nights.
A great end to the bowl season too.
Singing Stars of Hollywood August 2, 2011
We had yet another night at the Hollywood Bowl this past weekend. It was the LA Philharmonic with “The Singing Stars of Television”! It was quite the all-star cast and we had a great time. But first! The food!
We usually picnic beforehand, and it’s SO much more fun with a big group of people. We had an impressive spread this time!
IMG_6747
We had 8 people in our group (whoo hoo!) and this was the menu:
-Chicken and Beef Skewers from Zankou Chicken
-Basmati Rice from Zankou
-Buffalo Chicken Dip with chips (made by yours truly! Recipe coming tomorrow!)
-Summer Garden Salad
-Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad
-Fresh Fruit
-Hummus
-Blonde Brownies
-CRUMBS CUPCAKES!
-Sparkling Lemonade
IMG_6748
Yea. It was epic.
tumblr_lp6wmgsW111qz9p9xo1_1280
I’d say the Bowl was only about half full that night (which is crazy considering how amazing the show was!) We had a whole section (or two) all to ourselves!
IMG_6750
Ok! Get Ready! Blurry pictures ahead!
First up was Michael Feinstein. He’s really talented. I was impressed at the range of his voice.
IMG_6753
Next up was Florence Henderson! Yep. THE Mrs. Brady!!! She even sang the theme song to the Brady Bunch! It was so cool!!! She’s adorable.
IMG_6758
Wayne Brady and Cheyenne Jackson also did a few numbers. Cheyenne is super cute! I guess he’s on Glee? I need to watch more TV.
But I was most excited to see Dick Van Dyk. That man is incredible! You can just tell that he’s had a career doing something that he loves. He did a bunch of songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins!!!
IMG_6766
And perhaps the best part was when he actually rapped a song with his group “The Vantastics”.
IMG_6768
I found a video of it on Youtube that you have see. Click ahead to 2:45 in the clip.
I feel so lucky to see these amazing stars live on stage! What a fun night.
Dudamel and Lang Lang At the Bowl July 14, 2011
We haven’t really have a ton of plans recently, but I’ve been keeping busy with scrapbooking, digitizing some home video tapes and of course, reading THE TWILIGHT BOOKS!! (I’m in the middle of Breaking Dawn and I am LOVING it!
We actually almost forgot that we had Hollywood Bowl tickets for Tuesday night. It was just the two of us this time, and we were happy to be outside, hear some good music and get out of the house for a few hours. It was a cool and breezy night, perfect for wearing a hoodie (my favorite!)
IMG_6303
We kept it real simple for dinner. Instead of our usual picnic, we opted to just bring a small pizza in. Easy peasy.
IMG_6309IMG_6305
Before the show started, we were just talking about how lucky we are to live in LA. We absolutely LOVE it out here. Sometimes I take it for granted that we have all these amazing places to see right at our fingertips. From our seats, we could see the Hollywood Sign, the Ford Theater and the Griffith Park Observatory! What you don’t see in this picture is the Greek Theater, Hollywood and Highland, The Walk of Fame and SO many others within a half mile from there.
I sometimes can’t believe this is my town.IMG_6313
Soon the show began. Dudamel is such a talented young conductor. He gets really into the music and you can tell he’s passionate about what he does.
IMG_6318
I don’t know much about classical music, but I did recognize a few of the songs they played. It’s such an amazing orchestra.
IMG_6316
And then Lang Lang came out and played his piano along with the band. He is incredibly gifted. He doesn’t even look at the keys when he plays. It’s amazing that only ten fingers are making such beautiful music. It sounds like there would be three people playing at once!  IMG_6320
I really enjoyed the music, but I have to admit, I was so excited to read my book while I listened. I bought Breaking Dawn on the Nook software and was happy to read for an hour. Yea, it was probably rude, but we were in the cheap seats and we were the ONLY people in our section. Don’t judge.IMG_6322
In other news, I am in love with the flowers Irving bought me for our anniversary this week! I love buttom mums. I had them in my wedding bouquet. So summery!anni (9)
And I bought us two cupcakes to share. They were good, but not as good as our wedding ones. Le sigh.anni (7)
Grease is the Word… June 25, 2011
Last night was our first summer night at the Hollywood Bowl. Hard to believe the season is here again!
The show was a Grease Sing-A-Long! They played the movie on the big screen and everyone sang along! It was a blast!
IMG_6136
But let’s back up to dinner! We met up with Katherine, Kaitlin, and a few of their friends.
IMG_6133
One of the pest parts of going to the bowl is being able to picnic beforehand! We spread out our blanket and munched on some goodies.
IMG_6128
I had a spinach & tomato salad with a drizzle of honey and some buffalo pasta chicken salad. Delicious!
IMG_6127
Irving had that awesome sandwich I made him earlier. haha Wife for the win!IMG_6126
IMG_6132
LA Bloggers!
IMG_6137
And then we waited for the show to begin!
IMG_6139
They put the lyrics up on the screen so everyone could sing along! It was a blast.
IMG_6144 IMG_6143
They also gave everyone a goodie bag before the show with props to use during the movie. I missed what all of them were, but the yellow fabric was to hold up during the drag race, and the pom poms were for the pep rally scene. And the bubbles were for the “beauty school dropout” song.
IMG_6147
Such a fun night, it’s been a while since I saw Grease and I was surprised by how much of it used to go over my head when I was little. My favorite part of the night was when Danny and Sandy are in the drive-in and a little kid behind us asked his dad what Danny was trying to do. BAHAHA. Awkward!
PS. This was Irving’s FIRST time seeing it. Whaaaat? I think he liked it though.
Do you remember your first time Seeing Grease? Mine was at a fifth grade sleepover!
