Tiny Tot Tuesday: Wreck It Ralph November 11, 2012

Disney’s El Capitan Theater in Hollywood has always been a favorite of ours. The theater itself is gorgeous and it’s a nice throwback to the glory-days of cinema. Ticket prices may be a little bit more expensive than a regular theater, but your ticket also includes a live show before each movie that is usually top-notch. And who doesn’t like to see Disney movies (new and old) on the big screen? We’re so lucky to have this in our backyard!

Last week, we were invited to experience the El Capitan’s newest  event: Tiny Tot Tuesday! Though we know Adele is a bit too young to really enjoy a movie (and technically, she’s not supposed to be really watching tv anyways), we couldn’t pass up this opportunity.  During ‘Tiny Tot Tuesday’ screenings, parents and small children can enjoy the movie in a Tiny Tot-friendly way––complete with lights dimmed rather than out and reduced sound levels.

The movie was Disney’s newest release: Wreck-It Ralph in 3D.

“From Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore comes “Wreck-It Ralph,” a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping adventure. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.” For more information, visit Disney.com/wreck-it-ralph, like us on Facebook: facebook.com/WreckItRalph .

Irving and Adele went together for a daddy-and-me-date and they had a blast!

Irving said the stage show beforehand was really great. Adele dozed on and off throughout the show, but she had fun listening and enjoying the whole movie experience. I am looking forward to bringing her to many shows at the El Capitan as she gets bigger!

Drive-In Double Feature! July 13, 2012

Saturday night, Irving and I had plans to go to a drive-in movie theater to see a double feature. I was at first excited… and then I started to get really anxious. The evenings are Adele’s fussy time and I didn’t want to have to stand outside the car all night rocking her to sleep. But Irving convinced me we should give it a try anyways, so we headed out to Pomona to the Mission Tiki Drive-In Theater.

We decided on Magic Mike and Ted. I fed Adele right before the previews started and she fell asleep soon after. Irving held her in his arms while we watched Magic Mike. After that movie was over, I closed my eyes, and ended up sleeping all through Ted! Adele slept the ENTIRE TIME! That’s almost four hours!!

It was SO much fun to get out and do something fun. It was my first time at a Drive-In! We got home close to 1:30am (Party Animals, I know). And Adele slept all through the night! We’ll have to do that again sometime. It was fun!!

Valentine’s Day Dinner and a Movie February 15, 2012

Irving and I had big plans to have dinner at the Olive Garden last night. I loooooooove the Olive Garden and have been begging for months to go there. (Soup, Salad and Breadsticks, whoop!) We tried to make reservations and call ahead, but the only way to get a table is to show up in person…. and when we got there, the wait was 3 HOURS! They even ran out of buzzers and you had to get BACK in line to pick up your buzzer. That’s crazy.

So we jumped back in the car and headed over to another place we’ve been meaning to try: The Federal. It was perfect! Wasn’t too crowded, the food was good and we weren’t rushed at all.
IMG_1412

We had a few hours to kill before our movie, so we took our time and enjoyed the conversation. We started off with drinks. Irving had the Sea Dog Blueberry (I stole a small sip and it was amazing!) I had a Seltzer Cranberry, not as good as the beer, but still delicious.
IMG_1409

We just chatted for almost two hours about everything and nothing, it was SO NICE! We kept saying how different life will be on Valentine’s Day next year! We’ll have to get a baby sitter to go out like this, just the two of us. But we’re ready for it. We’re looking forward to all the changes life will have in store for us.
IMG_1411IMG_1410

Then we had a photoshoot on the sidewalk, obviously. I wore this dress during my Bacehelorette Party in 2009 and now it’s the perfect maternity dress too. Who knew!

Then it was MOVIE TIME!!!! A theater near the restaurant was showing ‘Romeo & Juliet’ on the big screen!!!!! I practically know that movie by heart (it’s my favorite!!) and I haven’t seen it in theaters since 1997!! Irving had never seen it, so I was SO excited to share it with him. He’s a big John Leguizamo and Baz Luhrnman fan, so I knew he’d like it. Amazingly we made it all the way though without falling asleep. (It started at 10pm!)

It was the perfect Valentine’s Day evening. Love ya, babe!

Flashback from November 23, 2006

Back before the days of drug wars and Weeds, we bought some extra car insurance and drove down to Mexico for Thanksgiving in 2006. We had four days to explore the area and it actually was a very fun trip. We stayed in the Rosarito Beach Hotel.

Gosh, we looked so young!

After exploring Rosarito, we headed to Foxploration (Now Baja Studios). I don’t think it’s open to tourists anymore, but the studio is still there.

The studios were built for the filming of Titanic and most of the sets are still there.

Here are a few highlights from the tour:

The car that Jack and Rose made out in under the ship:

And the desk in the room where Rose ends finding him.

Jack’s original 3rd class bunk room.

When the ship was sinking, passengers got stuck behind this gate! Luckily Irving was on the right side.

In front is the set that they used to film the famous “never let go” scene! I love the magic of Hollywood.

Remember all those scenes when the ship was turning vertical? Here’s another movie trick they used!

The other really big movie that was shot in these studios was Rome + Juliet which just so happens to be my FAVORITE movie of all time. Look! The license plates from the cars!!

And the dress Juliet wore in the Pool Scene…

Next to it is the shirt that Gregory wore in the gas station scene too.

They also had a few ships from Master and Commander to tour as well. I didn’t see the movie, but film sets are fun!

Ok, don’t hate me, but I’m not sure if this is from Star Trek or the X-Files. Any nerds fans know?

Oh and another random fact… the gate that was used in The Sound of Music in the cemetery scene is there too.
Rosarito06 030

The rest of our Mexican adventure was a blast too. We explored the beaches and the boardwalks for a bit.
Irv_Rosarito06 168 Irv_Rosarito06 169

And also made it down for some Wine Tasting in Ensenada.

PS. I illegally took this photo of the US/Mexico border markers. Shhh!
Rosarito06 103

I would also like to thank Irving for his mad Spanish skills. He successfully used enough of it to get us out of a ticket for trying to “cut the border crossing line”. Thankfully it worked, but it was a close call.

We had a great time south of the border and hope to do it again someday!

Grease is the Word… June 25, 2011

Last night was our first summer night at the Hollywood Bowl. Hard to believe the season is here again!
The show was a Grease Sing-A-Long! They played the movie on the big screen and everyone sang along! It was a blast!
IMG_6136

But let’s back up to dinner! We met up with Katherine, Kaitlin, and a few of their friends.
IMG_6133

One of the pest parts of going to the bowl is being able to picnic beforehand! We spread out our blanket and munched on some goodies.
IMG_6128

I had a spinach & tomato salad with a drizzle of honey and some buffalo pasta chicken salad. Delicious!
IMG_6127

Irving had that awesome sandwich I made him earlier. haha Wife for the win!IMG_6126

IMG_6132

LA Bloggers!
IMG_6137

And then we waited for the show to begin!
IMG_6139

They put the lyrics up on the screen so everyone could sing along! It was a blast.
IMG_6144 IMG_6143

They also gave everyone a goodie bag before the show with props to use during the movie. I missed what all of them were, but the yellow fabric was to hold up during the drag race, and the pom poms were for the pep rally scene. And the bubbles were for the “beauty school dropout” song.

IMG_6147

Such a fun night, it’s been a while since I saw Grease and I was surprised by how much of it used to go over my head when I was little. My favorite part of the night was when Danny and Sandy are in the drive-in and a little kid behind us asked his dad what Danny was trying to do. BAHAHA. Awkward!

PS. This was Irving’s FIRST time seeing it. Whaaaat? I think he liked it though.

Do you remember your first time Seeing Grease? Mine was at a fifth grade sleepover!
