Hollywood Date Night February 20, 2014

To keep the momentum of Valentine’s Day weekend going, Irving and I had a fun date night planned for Sunday night! We hired a babysitter and headed into Hollywood for dinner and a play! We even valeted the car! (HAHAHA We would usually choose to park 2 miles away and walk than do this, but tonight was a special occasion… date night!) I wore a new black lace dress too! Fancy! (still wore my flats instead of heels though, gotta keep it real, right?)

We ate at Fabiolus on Susnset Boulevard. We skipped the appetizers and went straight to the wine. We ordered a bottle of the house white. (We had never done that ever either!) It was fun!

Cheers!

I had a great pesto linguine and Irving ordered a chicken dish. Both were great! We had a great conversation about parenting, Adele, life, work and the future. I very much enjoyed the company of this guy.

Then we headed up the street to the Pantages Theater to see Book of Mormom!

We had been there once or twice before, but the theater really is breathtaking. Brings you back in time a bit and makes you appreciate ‘old hollywood’. It opened in 1930!

[Fun Fact: The Oscars took place here from 1949 to 1959!]

We really liked the play. It was a musical and the songs were great. I thought the story could have used more depth, but it definitely had some great lines and characters.

What a wonderful night with my perfect valentine. xo

Sunday Funday: Pasadena and Hollywood February 6, 2014

Last Sunday, we had a rare day off together as a family, so we made the most of it and headed out in search of adventure. We meandered over to Pasadena with no real plans in mind. We found a great playground near Colorado Blvd and stopped to play for a bit!

Then we stretched our legs and went for a walk.

Look! Leaves! Los Angeles finally got its FALL! (A few months late, but there are leaves! We celebrated!)

Run, run, run!

We made our way over to our favorite travel store (Distant Lands) and picked up another Eagle Creek travel cube. We could have spent all day in there. The maps! The books! The suitcases! It makes us giddy. We may or may not have a pretty exciting international trip up our sleeves.

Anyways, we left Pasadena and headed over to Hollywood for the rest of the day. We live SO close, but since it’s not exactly the cleanest place in the world, we don’t spend all that much time there. But on that day, it was perfect. I strapped Adele to me in the carrier, and within one block on Hollywood Boulevard, she was passed out!
IMG_20140126_130844

I know my days of having my baby sleep on me are numbered, so I soaked up every minute of this glorious nap.

IMG_20140126_130938

She slept long enough for us to walk a couple of miles (and pick up Book of Mormon tickets on the way!!!!) and STILL have enough time to spare for us to sit down at a restaurant (Pig & Whsitle, for you locals!) and eat lunch! (Yes, I was careful not to get crumbs in her hair. haha) She woke up just as we were wrapping up there. We sat and gave her lunch for a little bit and continued over to Hollywood & Highland.

Our last stop was a visit to Sweet, an enormous candy store. Irving had bought me a gift certificate to make my own candy bar there! It was better than we thought it would be! And fun too!
IMG_20140126_144147
My bar had a dark chocolate base and was filled with peanut butter, mini m&ms, Rice Krispies and crushed Oreos.

Irving’s had a milk chocolate base, filled with nutella, ground coffee, banana chips and sea salt.

So to recap: playground, travel store, baby nap, quiet lunch with hubby… and chocolate. Yep. Perfect day.

A Hollywood Christmas December 8, 2013

Even though we have to resort to fake snow to feel like it’s winter, Hollywood sure knows how to celebrate the season!

I took Adele up to Universal CityWalk this weekend to see the giant tree and meet the big man in Red!

IMG_2652

(Let me back up a sec to let you know this is our SECOND time up here this week. We tried to see Santa a few days prior, but somebody (ahem, me!) forgot to put the chip in the camera! Oy. We enjoyed that night anyways by being there in time to see the nightly snowfall there! That was cool.)

Anyways, fast forward to today. In the morning, we did a Gymboree class that was really fun and awesome. Adele had a blast and then promptly passed out in the car when it was over. She slept for THREE hours in her carseat. Long enough for me to trek across town, go to the mall (to shop for gifts AND try on clothes myself!), go home, drive to Universal, park, get Starbucks, walk around and STILL wait around for her to wake up for another 20 minutes or so!

When Adele woke up, I changed her into a red dress (which was actually EJ’s (Irving’s sister) when she was little!

IMG_2677

Adele woke up all happy and was calling the tree ornaments ‘apples’. She was in a great mood, so I stepped in line and introduced her to Santa. She was not impressed. I sat her on his lap… and thus resulted in this:

Best Santa photo ever. Of course I felt bad for her, but I was also super excited that my child now joins the ranks of millions who have had traumatizing Santa experiences. It’s a right of passage, right? That photo was worth every penny of the $23 they charged me. (By the way, it was FREE the other night we were there… except somebody forgot the camera chip, remember?) But it was worth it for the above photo, am I right?!

As soon as I swooped in to save her from Santa, she was back in good spirits again. And HUNGRY!

We wandered around Citywalk a little longer (taking all of the photos you see in this post).

Back at home, I snapped a few more, because I couldn’t resist how adorable she looked today.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Hollywood Honeymoon October 29, 2013

My sister (and new brother, Chris) honeymooned in California after their wedding. They had an AMAZING time up in Napa and Sonoma. Their pictures were so fun and they had such a great time up there. Then they continued their California adventure down in LA and San Diego. One night, we got a babysitter and went with them to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. It was SO fun.

We dined at Saddle Ranch beforehand and ended our meal with their infamous cotton candy.

We stayed out at Universal until 2am! (I haven’t seen that time on the clock in about 14 months. HAHA ) I was all nervous about the time, thinking Adele would be up at 6:30a (she was sleeping in our closet so Mikaela and Chris could sleep in her room– don’t worry, it’s a big closet). But she decided to sleep in til 9:30am!! WHATT?? We were so excited, we decided to reward her for her amazing sleeping talents by visiting Hollywood & Highland.

I feel like Hollywood gets stranger and stranger every time we visit, but it was fun.

And of course, we had to make a visit to the Hollywood sign. Mikaela wore her veil! Love it!!!

After all the jumping, we needed some fuel… in the form of Sprinkles Ice Cream! <— I only link to important things on my blog.
1235113_10152010860708804_893607500_nCan you see Chris’s cone? That’s what he ordered. That’s smaller than a sample bite! Are you kidding? Clearly he doesn’t know what he’s missing!

I have no pictures of what I ordered, but let me paint that delicious picture for you…. Red Velvet ice cream sandwiched between two CUPCAKE tops (Red Velvet and Vanilla)!! Are you kidding me?! A cupcake ice cream sandwich! It was as amazing as it sounds, I promise. It kind of looked like this:
l

The only thing that would have made this better was if there was ICING on the cupcake tops…. Cupcakes are vehicles for icing… if anything, Sprinkles should know this. Oh well.

No one shared with Adele, so she got bored and fell asleep. Usually it’s “Snooze, you Lose”… but in this case, it’s “Lose, you snooze”.
20131012_175925

The original plan was to say Bon Voyage to the newlyweds as they took the Amtrak train down to San Diego for the last few days of their trip… but before they were slated to leave, we found out the train was shutdown due to track construction and they were offering a bus as an alternative… that didn’t sound remotely romantic to me, so we volunteered to drive them down to SD in our awesome minivan. Minivan>Bus.

I brought a map and looked for a beach to pull off into so Chris could touch the Pacific ocean for the first time. We randomly picked one in San Clemente and pulled into a parking lot. And wouldn’t you know… that was the EXACT location of the train track construction!!! Out of the miles and miles of track, we stumbled upon the road block. It was quite ironic.
IMG954229

To get to the water, we had to hike down a hill, traverse along a cliff, climb over a ledge, cross the train tracks, and jump down a sand dune…. and Irving did all of that holding a carseat with a sleeping baby in it. #DadOfTheYear

It was worth it for the amazing sunset we caught while we were there. We got some great shots. Here’s some of my favorites!

We had a great time hanging out with the honeymooners for a few extra hours. We topped off our exciting day with dinner in Old Town, San Diego before dropping them off at their hotel. We were so excited to be part of their honeymoon adventure. Hope you guys come back and visit soon!! XOXO

Tiny Tot Tuesday: Wreck It Ralph November 11, 2012

Disney’s El Capitan Theater in Hollywood has always been a favorite of ours. The theater itself is gorgeous and it’s a nice throwback to the glory-days of cinema. Ticket prices may be a little bit more expensive than a regular theater, but your ticket also includes a live show before each movie that is usually top-notch. And who doesn’t like to see Disney movies (new and old) on the big screen? We’re so lucky to have this in our backyard!
WP_000389

Last week, we were invited to experience the El Capitan’s newest  event: Tiny Tot Tuesday! Though we know Adele is a bit too young to really enjoy a movie (and technically, she’s not supposed to be really watching tv anyways), we couldn’t pass up this opportunity.  During ‘Tiny Tot Tuesday’ screenings, parents and small children can enjoy the movie in a Tiny Tot-friendly way––complete with lights dimmed rather than out and reduced sound levels.

The movie was Disney’s newest release: Wreck-It Ralph in 3D.

“From Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore comes “Wreck-It Ralph,” a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping adventure. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.” For more information, visit Disney.com/wreck-it-ralph, like us on Facebook: facebook.com/WreckItRalph .

Irving and Adele went together for a daddy-and-me-date and they had a blast!

Irving said the stage show beforehand was really great. Adele dozed on and off throughout the show, but she had fun listening and enjoying the whole movie experience. I am looking forward to bringing her to many shows at the El Capitan as she gets bigger!
