Adele and I get home around 6p every night. She usually goes to bed around 7:30p, so there’s a lot of pressure to get as much time with her as possible before she goes to sleep. I miss her so much during the day and I really love our hour together in the evening. Irving is at work, so it’s just us two girls. Tonight was one of those nights that I always want to remember.

6p – Arrive home. Adele is asleep in her carseat, so I start dinner while she snoozes. On tonight’s menu: pasta with homemade pesto (from fresh Basil Irving bought this week). I’m usually not this ambitious, past dinners this week included PB&J, Grilled Cheese and a simple salad. But tonight, I was excited to make something yummy.

6:15p – Cook Dinner. Adele woke up in a good mood, so I dragged her exersaucer over to the kitchen so she could play while I cooked. She was loving it. She’s in a stage now where she cries whenever I leave her sight. So she’s happy as long as she can see me.

6:30p – Dance Party. When I turned the food processor on to make my pesto, the loud noise scared her and she started crying. I picked her up, we turned up the Kid Songs music and we danced around the kitchen together while everything finished up. She was smiling, grabbing at my hair and looking around. We had a blast.

6:45p – Eat at the Table. I ate my dinner while Adele played in her high chair next to me. We’re getting ready to start Baby Led Weaning soon, so I’m excited to get her at the table with us as much as possible now. She was content playing with her toys while I ate. It was a treat because usually I eat alone after she’s gone to sleep. We listened to more music while we sat.

And in case you want a video of Adele listening to B-I-N-G-O and you want to hear my annoying mommy voice… here you go!

7p – Bath Time. I gave a Adele a nice long warm bath tonight. She’s always loved the bath, and now it’s even more fun because she likes to play with her toys! She loves her cups, her duckies and her bath books. But tonight, she was mostly interested in playing with her washcloth. Everything goes straight into her mouth now. She also loves to practice sitting up! In the tub, this is especially fun because she can splash around in the water at the same time. She’s stay in there all night if I’d let her!

7:15p – Milk Time! After I change her, give her legs a massage with delicious baby lotion and blow strawberries on her soft little belly, it’s time to nurse her. We watch a Ken Burns documentary about the Civil War while she eats. She doesn’t eat great, but she gets enough to feel content and we play on the couch for a while.

7:30p – Cuddles. I take her into our room and play with her on our bed for a little bit. I sing songs to her, kiss her cheeks and cuddle next to her for a few minutes. Once I see her first eye rub, I know it’s time for her to go to bed. (awe, sad!)

7:45p – Bed. I think she had too much fun tonight and she’s having a tough time winding down. I go in to soothe her a few times and it’s still not enough for some reason. I end up picking her up and rocking her for a few minutes til her eyelids begin to droop (I miss rocking her to sleep, can you believe it?) Finally, I force myself to put her back down in her crib even though I want to hold her a little longer. She’s out like a light.

As a working mom, it’s all about squeezing it in and making the most of the time that you have. There will never be enough time with Adele, but I want to always remember that in nights like this, I’m squeezing the nectar out of life and giving her 110% of what I have. I made more fantastic memories of her in that 1.75 hours than I had all week. I really took the time to pay attention to her, to look at her eyes, to stroke her soft hair, to listen to her laughs, to watch her play…. This is what I always want to remember.

And now, I’m enjoying a cup of hot cocoa and admiring the christmas lights I hung last night. I’m so excited to experience this holiday season with my littlest friend. I hope she enjoys the sparkle as much as I do!

G’Night Friends!

We already know how much Adele loves to have big hotel king-sized beds all to herself (As exhibited in Palm Springs and Avila Beach!) But it seems the theory has also been tested and proven here in our own home as well!
IMG_4494

Complete with her own kid-sized pillow too!
IMG_4495

Sweet dreams, darling.

Note: Baby was 100% supervised, no pillow suffocation risk, promise!

I love when people do ‘Day in the Life’ posts, so I decided to do one too! Let me take you (hour by hour) into my world for a day.

Friday, July 20, 2012

6a – After sleeping for NINE hours, I hear little baby squeaks coming through the monitor. When enter Adele’s room, she is awake and waiting for me!
IMG_4298

I unswaddle the sleeping beauty and get excited to see the “Great Morning Stretch” (my favorite!)
IMG_4299
Hands up!

Accompanied by a giant smile! I don’t mind getting up at 6am when I get greeted with this! So cute!
IMG_4300

After giving her lots of kisses, it’s time to eat! After that, she’s perfectly full and content.
IMG_4311

She gives me lots of coos to tell me how happy she is.
IMG_4310

Then it’s time for a diaper and outfit change!
IMG_4318

IMG_4312

IMG_4320

And we sing The Wheels on the Bus and laugh at each other for a few minutes.
IMG_4321

6:30a –Adele plays on the playmat and I sit next to her and pump (I’m trying to build my supply!)
IMG_4325

IMG_4341

7a – She continues to play and giggle while I eat a Cinnamon Roll next to her.
IMG_4335

When she gets bored with the mat, it’s TUMMY TIME!
IMG_4343

Is there anything in the world cuter than little baby bums?
IMG_4342

7:30a – I hold Adele for a little while until her eyelids begin to droop. Perfect time to strap her in the carseat and take off on a run!
IMG_4354

Today marks my return back to running! I did day 1 of the ‘Couch to 5K’ program. It included 1-minute running and then 90 seconds of walking. We did that together for a half-hour before it started to get hot out. Adele slept the whole way! Apparently she likes when mama runs! Whoo hooo!
IMG_4349

8a – When we get back home, Adele is still sleeping in the stroller so I do the dishes and clean up the kitchen from the night before.
IMG_4384

8:30a – I take her 6-week photos and play with her on the rug for a bit. She loves her lamby!
IMG_4355

Hi mom!
IMG_4365

IMG_4369

Mom doesn’t stop snapping photos until she sees a smile. Adele is catching on. =)
IMG_4374

9a – Time to eat again! This time with a pumped bottle!
IMG_4378

I switched from the Calma nipples to a regular nipple for this feeding and she did SO much better than before. I think we figured it out! Good job, baby girl! She downed 5 ounces in like 8 minutes!
IMG_4380

Dad wakes up and gets some cuddle time with her. Awee! She loves her daddy!
IMG_4381

IMG_4382

9:30a – Pump again while baby sleeps in the Mamaroo.
IMG_4383

10a – I jump in the shower while Irving is on duty. Then we continue to clean up the house together. (I feel like that’s all we do! There’s always something to put away!) Adele is still sleeping. I make a smoothie for Breakfast #2.
IMG_4389

11a – I pump again!  (every two hours!)

11:30a – Irving feeds Adele with a bottle, she does great!
IMG_4390

IMG_4395

I run to CVS to fight with the Pharmacist for the THIRD TIME this week. (Bottom line: My insurance company paid $43,000 for me to have a baby… and is DENYING my $20 birth control pills… SERIOUSLY?! Don’t even get me started!)

12p – Irving and I have leftover Chili for lunch (courtesy of our friend, Erin! Thank you!)

1p – We load up the car with all the errands we have to run this week!
IMG_4398

Actually, Irving loads up the car… me and Adele read a book together in the meantime.
IMG_4399

2p – I nurse Adele and head out to run some errands. First stop: The Library! I think the sole reason I wanted to have kids was to bring them to the library. I am SO excited for her to someday pick out her own books to read each week! But this time, she just slept. haha
0720021502

We also ran to do the Recylcing and pick up a few things at Babies R’ Us. (Diaper Genie Refills are on sale this week, people! Exciting stuff!)

4:30p – Return home, nurse the baby. Walk around singing songs to her. She LOVES it, obviously.
IMG_4403

IMG_4406

5p – Pump while Adele cries on the playmat. It’s only 10 minutes, patience, my love! After that, I hold her while I eat some pizza.

5:30p – Adele goes down for a nap….

6p – Just kidding, she just wants to be held apparently. I put her in the Moby so I can get some things done.
IMG_4408

7p – She is hungry again. Time to Eat!
IMG_4411
Feed me mom!

8p – I tried to entertain her, but all she wants to do is eat again! After this, she can’t keep her eyes open. Despite trying to keep her awake, it’s time for bed for the night.

She slept from 8p-4a (Eight Hours!) At 4am, I fed her again and she went back to sleep til 7:30a! And now the cycle starts all over again!

It was so nice to have my parents in town this week. It was so sweet to see them with Adele. Just as when Irving’s mom was here too, we learned so much from them. We were so lucky they were able to make the trip out west, we enjoyed every second.

Adele loved playing with her new toys too. I thought she was too young for them, but my mom showed me that she liked to look at the lights and track objects with her eyes! What would we do without our grandmothers, right Adele?!
1month-blog (114)

We didn’t go out too much when they were here, we mostly enjoyed her in between naps, and did little things in our area.

One morning, we headed over to the Americana in Glendale to see the Farmer’s Market.

Fresh Aqua Fresca, anyone?!

It was nice to walk around some shops and enjoy the fresh air while the baby napped.

But it’s the little things around the house that were the most fun. Bath time (which Adele LOVES) was one of my favorites.

And playtime on the floor is always a winner. I love the baby coos. It was so sweet to see Adele with the same love that I have.

She pulled out the happy baby face a lot this week. So much love.

The Nursery Tour May 25, 2012

Our place is only two bedrooms and for six years, we’ve enjoyed having a large office we could both hang out in.
IMG_1075

But when we found out we were having a baby, we got to work transforming it into something the baby could hang out in too! And now, it’s finally done and we are so in love with our new space.

BEFORE:
IMG_1395

DURING:
IMG_1675

AFTER:
IMG_3094

We can’t even believe it’s the same room. We love the bright sage walls, the big open floor and the cute little deer!
When you walk into the room, to the left is a closet (half baby/half storage), some shelves and the crib.
IMG_3097

IMG_3103

IMG_3102IMG_3098

To the right of the crib is the changing table/dresser.
IMG_3104

All stocked and ready to go! (The teacher of our Newborn Class recommended using Viva Paper Towels and water instead of wipes to avoid diaper rash… so we’re going to give that a try!)
IMG_3105

Inside the drawers are all the cute baby clothes, socks and blankets. I am not sure if I like how it’s organized yet, I’m sure that will be a work in progress.
IMG_3108

IMG_3109

The Diaper Genie and extra diapers are to the right of the changing table.
IMG_3106

Next to that, is the matching lamp. We switched out the bulb to be dimmable so we can turn it on at night without waking the baby.
IMG_3107

Right under the window is the pull-out sofa for sleepy parents and guests.
IMG_3110

IMG_3111

And the right side of the room is what’s left of our ‘office’. Paired down to one desk and one shelf. (Used to be two HUGE L-Shaped desks and four sets of shelves!)
IMG_3113

IMG_3114

We still have our printer and some computer parts that spilled over onto the baby’s book shelf, but for now, it still works.
IMG_3115

The only thing left to do in the room is hang some decorations above the crib/changing table. It looks a little bare at the moment, but I have big plans. I’ll unveil as soon as it’s done!
IMG_3094

For the first 2-3 months, the baby will be sleeping in our room in a pack & play.
IMG_3117

Also stocked with diapers and wipes!
IMG_3118

Technically, we have 15 days until the due date, but my doctor doesn’t think I’ll make it that long. We’ll see!!!
