Hollywood Date Night February 20, 2014

To keep the momentum of Valentine’s Day weekend going, Irving and I had a fun date night planned for Sunday night! We hired a babysitter and headed into Hollywood for dinner and a play! We even valeted the car! (HAHAHA We would usually choose to park 2 miles away and walk than do this, but tonight was a special occasion… date night!) I wore a new black lace dress too! Fancy! (still wore my flats instead of heels though, gotta keep it real, right?)
IMG_20140216_175749

We ate at Fabiolus on Susnset Boulevard. We skipped the appetizers and went straight to the wine. We ordered a bottle of the house white. (We had never done that ever either!) It was fun!

Cheers!
IMG_20140216_164624
I had a great pesto linguine and Irving ordered a chicken dish. Both were great! We had a great conversation about parenting, Adele, life, work and the future. I very much enjoyed the company of this guy.
20140216_173327

Then we headed up the street to the Pantages Theater to see Book of Mormom!
IMG_20140216_180405

We had been there once or twice before, but the theater really is breathtaking. Brings you back in time a bit and makes you appreciate ‘old hollywood’. It opened in 1930!

[Fun Fact: The Oscars took place here from 1949 to 1959!]

IMG_20140216_182733

We really liked the play. It was a musical and the songs were great. I thought the story could have used more depth, but it definitely had some great lines and characters.

What a wonderful night with my perfect valentine. xo

A Weekend of Love February 18, 2014

We had such a great Valentine’s Weekend! And it was a long weekend too, due to the holiday on Monday! Now that’s love.  Adele had a potluck at her school, so I made mini tea sandwiches (inspired by my Downton Abbey party!). These were berry cream cheese on white bread!
IMG_4302

The cream cheese was pink which made a pretty little party sandwich! Not sure if the kids liked them at school, but Adele LOVED them!
IMG_4303

IMG_4305

She gave her friends little puppy and kitty valentines, along with a bag of teddy grahams. The tags said “BEAR HUGS TO XXXXX, LOVE, ADELE”. I saw it on Pinterest and I was so excited! Adele called them ‘cookie bears’. ha.
IMG_4308

I got out of work early on Friday, which gave us a head start to the weekend of loooooove! We met up with some friends at Pint Size Kids for an afternoon of pretend play!

Doing a little produce shopping…

Putting them in her cart…

IMG_4316

And taking money out of the ATM to pay for it all… My, she’s like a grownup!IMG_4338

Then she did a load of laundry…

And even ironed it too!
IMG_4331

Then she filled up her SUV with gas.
IMG_4322

We also practiced pushing our dollies…

IMG_4328

And taking excellent care of them.

IMG_4329

If you haven’t been to this place yet, you should check it out. It has everything toddlers could imagine. Including books and train sets too! Adele LOVED the choo choos!
IMG_4347

IMG_4349

And they have GIANT teddy bears. The things toddler dreams are made of.

IMG_4353

IMG_4369
It was so much fun. We’ll be back soon for sure!
IMG_4341

Once the three of us got back home, we had a Valentine’s day picnic lunch on the living room floor. Complete with cheese, crackers, olives, salad and raisins! We laughed so hard because it was sort of a disaster. Adele was stepping on everything and making quite the mess. But it was fun and I’m hoping this was a beginning of fun Valentine’s Day tradition! Only next year, I hope there is less sock lint on my plate and smooched crackers on the rug. =)

Our Valentine’s Weekend of Love didn’t end there! Stay tuned for Part 2!

Weekend Getaway: Monterey Butterflies January 25, 2014

After our full day at the Aquarium, we all slept great and woke up ready for more! Our room was comfortable with a king bed, and plenty of room for a pack n play. All three nights we were there, we put Adele down around 8pm and turned out the lights. Then Irving and I sat in bed and read on our phones/laptops in the dark for another hour before passing out. We logged a lot of sleep while we were up there, it was great!

We headed back to the Black Bear Diner for breakfast (it’s THAT good!) I had an amazing biscuit with a side of fruit. Adele had some ham and eggs with berries and toast on the side.

Our destination for the morning was the Natural History Museum.

We thought the Butterfly Exhibit was there, but turns out it was actually a few blocks down. Before we left, we explored the ‘backyard’ of the museum and found this fun nest to play in!

I love this picture. She’s climbing trees!
IMG_4006

We eventually did find the Butterflies! The Monarchs love the trees and weather in this particular neighborhood and come for a visit for a few months each year.
IMG_4013

They had a simple trail where you could walk down and back and observe all the pretty butterflies.
IMG_4036
The tip-toes!
IMG_4041
I love her free spirit and love of the outdoors. She was running so fast I thought she would trip!
IMG_4045

The butterflies were awesome, there were SO many!

We had a great time looking at the “Utter-fries” =)

After our fun morning, we headed back to the hotel so Adele could take a nap. We took advantage of our built-in babysitters and snuck out for an afternoon date! First, we headed to Lover’s Point to climb some rocks and watch the waves. It felt like the old, adventurous ‘Kelley and Irving’.

After that, we had lunch together, walked around a mall, got some Coldstone ice cream and then say American Hustle in the theater! It was SO wonderful to get away for a few hours. We had a blast. It was the perfect date!

Hollywood Honeymoon October 29, 2013

My sister (and new brother, Chris) honeymooned in California after their wedding. They had an AMAZING time up in Napa and Sonoma. Their pictures were so fun and they had such a great time up there. Then they continued their California adventure down in LA and San Diego. One night, we got a babysitter and went with them to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. It was SO fun.

1395238_10152010852493804_1281509121_n

We dined at Saddle Ranch beforehand and ended our meal with their infamous cotton candy.
1378619_10152010851293804_465984825_n

We stayed out at Universal until 2am! (I haven’t seen that time on the clock in about 14 months. HAHA ) I was all nervous about the time, thinking Adele would be up at 6:30a (she was sleeping in our closet so Mikaela and Chris could sleep in her room– don’t worry, it’s a big closet). But she decided to sleep in til 9:30am!! WHATT?? We were so excited, we decided to reward her for her amazing sleeping talents by visiting Hollywood & Highland.

I feel like Hollywood gets stranger and stranger every time we visit, but it was fun.
1395274_10152010858593804_623875209_n

And of course, we had to make a visit to the Hollywood sign. Mikaela wore her veil! Love it!!!

IMG_1194
After all the jumping, we needed some fuel… in the form of Sprinkles Ice Cream! <— I only link to important things on my blog.
1235113_10152010860708804_893607500_nCan you see Chris’s cone? That’s what he ordered. That’s smaller than a sample bite! Are you kidding? Clearly he doesn’t know what he’s missing!

I have no pictures of what I ordered, but let me paint that delicious picture for you…. Red Velvet ice cream sandwiched between two CUPCAKE tops (Red Velvet and Vanilla)!! Are you kidding me?! A cupcake ice cream sandwich! It was as amazing as it sounds, I promise. It kind of looked like this:
l

The only thing that would have made this better was if there was ICING on the cupcake tops…. Cupcakes are vehicles for icing… if anything, Sprinkles should know this. Oh well.

No one shared with Adele, so she got bored and fell asleep. Usually it’s “Snooze, you Lose”… but in this case, it’s “Lose, you snooze”.
20131012_175925

The original plan was to say Bon Voyage to the newlyweds as they took the Amtrak train down to San Diego for the last few days of their trip… but before they were slated to leave, we found out the train was shutdown due to track construction and they were offering a bus as an alternative… that didn’t sound remotely romantic to me, so we volunteered to drive them down to SD in our awesome minivan. Minivan>Bus.

I brought a map and looked for a beach to pull off into so Chris could touch the Pacific ocean for the first time. We randomly picked one in San Clemente and pulled into a parking lot. And wouldn’t you know… that was the EXACT location of the train track construction!!! Out of the miles and miles of track, we stumbled upon the road block. It was quite ironic.
IMG954229

To get to the water, we had to hike down a hill, traverse along a cliff, climb over a ledge, cross the train tracks, and jump down a sand dune…. and Irving did all of that holding a carseat with a sleeping baby in it. #DadOfTheYear
20131012_173935

It was worth it for the amazing sunset we caught while we were there. We got some great shots. Here’s some of my favorites!

We had a great time hanging out with the honeymooners for a few extra hours. We topped off our exciting day with dinner in Old Town, San Diego before dropping them off at their hotel. We were so excited to be part of their honeymoon adventure. Hope you guys come back and visit soon!! XOXO

M&C: The Wedding October 21, 2013

My sister, Mikaela married her soul mate last week. The wedding was absolutely gorgeous. Every detail was accounted for. They both worked so hard to create a day they (and us!) would never forget. There was so much love in the air on October 4th! ❤

The girls had a great time getting ready in the morning. We had some food and some champagne and we just relaxed while we got ready. The bride was very excited and her energy was contagious!

We had awesome hair stylists. I loved my updo! Here’s some closeups!

Sister Laurie!

And my mom… wow. Gorgeous!
IMG_1057

It’s so fun getting all dressed up. I loved the dresses!
(PS got to reuse my bridesmaid shoes from my friend Erika’s wedding!)
IMG_1065
Mikaela was just stunning. Her dress had a beautiful lace overlay. The most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen.
DSCN0874

Irving, my dad and Laurie’s boyfriend were on ‘baby duty’ while the girls got ready. They took good care of the world’s cutest flower girl.

Oh, Hi, Irving!
_DSC0029

Soon enough, it was go time! I wasn’t sure if Adele would walk down the aisle or not… but at the last minute, I decided just to carry her. It was a long way to walk  and I didn’t want her to hold up the parade. She did great!
_DSC0067

Here comes the Bride!!!! Seems like just yesterday my dad was walking ME down the aisle! You did great, dad!
_DSC0070

I think she was very excited to see Chris waiting at the end of the aisle. The two of them just seemed SO happy. They are perfect for each other. They had a nice wine blending ceremony, which was perfect since the venue is a winery.
_DSC0090

But my favorite part of the ceremony was when Chris was doing his vows. Mikaela had snuck in an extra line without him knowing that required him to ‘vow to love and protect Gizmo’ (their dog). He was taken off guard and everyone laughed, it was very funny.
_DSC0081

Gizmo was actually waiting for them after the ceremony to take some pictures!
_DSC0108

The setting was unbelievable. Fall was the perfect time for a vineyard wedding. These belong in a magazine!

The whole gang!

Stealing this from the photographer. It belongs in a magazine!

Soon it was time to head inside to get our dancing on!

_DSC0047

IMG_1030

Mikaela was really proud of her wine rack program display because she “didn’t even get the idea from Pinterest!” So… happy pinning folks!
IMG_1028

They did all their centerpieces on their own too. Gorgeous!!! That’s a lot of wine to drink to get that many corks! haha
IMG_1019

Laurie and I wrote a poem as our ‘toast’ to the new couple. It was pretty epic.  We had fun with it. My favorite part was when Adele yelled “YAYYY” and clapped at the end of it. It was awesome. Everyone laughed.

IMG_1077

The first dance!
_DSC0174

Cutting of the cake! They had AMAZING cupcakes. And you know me and cupcakes. AWESOME!

Me and my dad…. and ahem… Jim. HAHA
DSC02772

haha let’s try again!
DSC02774

My little girl was SO good during the wedding! She sat at the table with us and chatted along with everyone. She was so happy to be there. We had a blast.
IMG_1082

And when in doubt, bring raisins. =)
IMG_1080

Then we let the dancing begin!!!
IMG_1126
IMG_1133

Adele danced until the lights came back on at 10:30p! She literally danced. In a circle, around the circle and inside the circle…. all night long. I couldn’t believe it. She was having the time of her life.
_DSC0250

I was laughing because occasionally, we take baby music classes where one teacher sings some mild songs and the kids dance for a half hour or so. By comparison, this party was loud, the lights were flashing, the beats were pumping, people were jumping… i can’t even imagine how much her brain was overstimulated and she was loving it! Eventually we changed her into her jammies but that didn’t cramp her style one bit! She was still jamming with the best of them!
_DSC0264

And just for fun, I love this picture of my grandparents. I think everyone had an absolute blast. It was an incredible night.
_DSC0258

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs!!! We love you both so much!! And now the real fun begins!!! Happy wedding, happy marriage!!!! xoxoxo
1393309_10152017027118804_197934943_n

Hopefully the photographer doesn’t mind I posted a few of these. They were too gorgeous not to! I had to!
