Adele: 22 Months April 26, 2014

Filed under: Baby Weekly Update — Kelocity @ 11:25 pm

22 Months. 2 Months shy of 2! We’re all having a blast at this age. She’s funny, playful, serious and smart. She makes us laugh all the time, we’re starting to see a little girl emerge out of a little baby and I’m stuck wondering when it all happened! IMG_4905 She loves to play now. Like really play. IMG_4828
IMG_4815 FOOD I wouldn’t say Adele is a picky eater… she just doesn’t like to eat, period. A few bites at each meal and she’s done. We keep offering and switching it up, but sometimes she just isn’t having it. Nothing new in terms of food this month. Same likes/dislikes. Same aversions to textures. And she still doesn’t love to chew her food. She’d live off of applesauce and yogurt if we’d let her! IMG_4777 But we have learned she LOVES spicy food. Hot sauce, chili sauce, soy sauce… and ketchup. Always ketchup. IMG_4808
IMG_4798 SLEEP Still a rockstar in this department. 7:30p-7:30a (sometimes later) most days. (We had a week where she was waking up at 6:30a but then it went back to normal again. Naps for 1-2 hours/day….or not at all. Daycare told us she sometimes skips a nap altogether, and when she does sleep, she’s always the last one to go down. ha. IMG_4847Still sleeps with puppy, blankie, a pillow and a million animals. Last weekend, I put her down for what I thought was going to be an afternoon nap… but an hour later, I snuck in and saw this…. not sleeping after all! IMG_4785 Apparently the “books Adele shouldn’t play with” shouldn’t be on the top shelf anymore! IMG_4792 THE STATS Weight = 24 Pounds Height = Unknown, but definitely grew taller a bit this month. Diapers = Between a size 3 and 4…. Shoes = 4 Clothes = Tops 18-24 Months now… Bottoms 18 Months IMG_4834 For the first time ever, she’s started to show an interest in what she’s wearing. This one cracked me up the most though. She wanted to wear her feetie fleece pajamas over her clothes… she she walked around with one foot in and one foot out for a while. haha IMG_4835
IMG_4846 She’s starting to show her independent side more and more, but is still proving to be a pretty mellow kid. She has her moments, but they are always short lived and easily distractible. Here’s to hoping this is a trend that continues all the way to three! IMG_4900
IMG_4903 And now for my favorite photo of month 22: IMG_20140329_172543 My two loves. xoxo

Adele: 2 Week Update June 24, 2012

Filed under: Baby,Baby Weekly Update — Kelocity @ 7:12 am

Adele is now 2 weeks old! In some respects it feels like she’s been in our lives for a lifetime, and in other ways, I feel like we’re still getting to know each other. She changes so much day to day and we’re starting to notice her becoming more alert and responsive to us. I still can’t believe that we brought another human being into the world. She teaches me new things every day.

When I look at her really closely, I notice she’s starting to not look like a newborn anymore. Her hair is growing really fast! It’s especially cute and fuzzy after a bath. Little by little, she’s stretching out too. She’s not as scrunchy as she was in the first week or so. We keep her swaddled most of the time, but when we let her loose, all those skinny limbs stretch out nice and long.
Note the missing sock!

She is more alert day after day. Her awake periods are longer and she coos as we talk to her now. She stares at us like we are the most interesting people in the world. She concentrates on our faces and loves to mimic our facial expressions.

Her fingernails grow so fast! She always has her hands up near her face, so we’re sticking to the mittens for now. Poor girl keeps scratching her soft little face!

I can’t believe she came home from the hospital in this outfit. Sadly, it’s already getting a bit snug and probably won’t even fit next week. Little girl is growing up so fast!

I’m definitely getting the hang of this. I love her so much, my heart melts when I see her. She’s such an easy baby. She rarely cries and when she does, she’s hungry or wet. We got really lucky with this one.

Hands up!

Right now, she’s still sleeping in the MamaRoo at night. She likes the noise and the bounce. (She’s like her mom and dad – we can’t sit still either!) During the day, she sleeps on her side or stomach (supervised, of course).
See that sheep? That’s the ‘Sleep Sheep’ and it’s pretty awesome. It makes white noise and makes her fall asleep instantly. She sleeps longer when it’s on too.

This week, we got out of the house as much as possible. We went out to eat four times, went to Target, went on several walks, went to the mall and even went to the movie theater! We’re limiting the germs she’s exposed to by keeping a blanket over her carseat. I know they say not to leave the house for a few weeks, but that just doesn’t work for our family. We crave fresh air, interaction and new experiences.

The movie we went to see was actually a lecture by Dr. Harvey Karp, the author of The Happiest Baby on the Block series. He did his presentation live and they broadcast it into theaters across the country. We LOVE his DVD and highly recommend it to anyone with a new baby. His theory is that all babies have a calming reflex that can instantly soothe a crying baby. He uses the 5 S’s: Swaddle, Side/Stomach Position, Shushing Sounds, Swinging and Sucking. If you use any or all of these, the baby will be happy. We swear by his techniques—especially the swaddle!
Burrito Baby for the win!

His presentation also talked about how to get babies to sleep longer too. He also talked a lot about toddlers and how to prevent temper tantrums. It was so helpful to get a glimpse of what we can do in another year or so.

Adele did great in the theater. I fed her (in public!) right before it started and then she slept the whole time. It felt so great to know we could take her out, take care of her needs, and still enjoy ourselves. Every time we do, we feel more confident as parents. Plus, getting outside in the evenings is really helping me avoid the nausea and keep those baby blues at bay.

We’re now 16 days into our new life, and I feel 90% back to normal. I feel like the clouds have cleared and I can start to really enjoy this. It doesn’t feel like I’m living someone else’s life anymore. It feels like me, and I like the new me! I’m so proud of my daughter already. She’s growing and she’s happy. I must be doing something right!

Well… doing almost everything right…. clearly I need some help in the clothing department! My little girl looks like a grumpy old man here! Clearly my fashion sense has rubbed off on my daughter. Poor girl. She needs some help from her Aunties I think. =)

Two weeks post-partum, I’ve lost the baby weight, but everything still feels out of place. My organs are still going back to normal and everything just feels soft. I’m really looking forward to doing yoga and running again. Hopefully next month! For now, my exercise includes daily walks and lifting an 8.5 pound baby all day long.

Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out, shared their stories, encouraged me and offered support. I can not tell you all how much I appreciated it. It was the strength I needed to get through those first two weeks. It was a little out of character to me to share such raw emotion, but I’m really glad I did in those early days. Thank you!

I’m excited to see what Week 3 brings us!
