Smooth Move December 16, 2011

Filed under: Baby — Kelocity @ 8:53 am

This morning, I thought I’d be healthy and go for a walk with Irving before work. It was a gorgeous morning in LA. It felt like spring. The day after a big rainfall here is always gorgeous and fresh. We were happy to take advantage. We did a two mile walk, and halfway stopped to pick up some smoothies (keeping the healthy train going, right?) So I order my usual protein shake with extra blueberries.

We walked a few blocks, I tripped on a curb… lost my balance… and fell… ON MY SMOOTHIE! That thing exploded EVERYWHERE! Once I got up, Irving said “are you ok? is the baby ok?” and all i could say was “I want my smooooooothie!!!!” and the proceeded to cry. It was so sad.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, I had to walk a mile back to my house looking like this while Irving carried my busted up (now empty) cup til we found a trashcan.

I think my pregnancy hormones are all out of whack this week too. For some reason I can’t seem to get a hold of myself. So glad it’s the weekend.

Happy Friday.

Relaxing Before Baby December 12, 2011

Irving and I took a weekend trip to Vegas last week. I had originally planned on watching the marathon and meeting up with some bloggers, and Irving as usual was excited to play some desert golf. But as the days inched closer, the plans changed a bit and turned itself into the most amazing, relaxing weekend.

We stayed at the Green Valley Ranch, which is 20 minutes off the strip, totally secluded, and everything we needed. After we worked out a couple of reservation snafus (blame TravelZoo) and came to terms with the fact that we ended up with the worst room in the whole hotel, we actually had an amazing time.

Saturday, we spent six hours in the spa sprawled out on their indoor lounge chairs reading magazine after magazine. Seriously, I think I read 8 of them cover to cover. We never slow down enough to enjoy days like that at home and it felt so nice!

When we got bored, we headed off to the Outlet malls for a bit of maternity clothes shopping!!! I scored some jeans and two sweaters. (Whoever invented stretchy pants deserves a prize!) I also got a Snoogle! More on that later.

Driving from the mall back to the resort was the only time we saw the strip. We just weren’t feeling the crowds and the smoke, so we stayed away this time.

Sunday, I had a 9am prenatal massage scheduled, so Irving headed off to golf and I enjoyed ANOTHER day at the spa. (I know, you can hate me. It’s ok.) Everyone keeps telling me to “relax now before the baby comes”. Don’t have to tell me twice!

I was laughing out loud at the prenatal massage table. How funny is this! I’m sure I’ll appreciate it it later once I actually have a belly. =)

I spent three hours in the afternoon laying on an outdoor bed by the pool writing out Christmas cards and surfing the web.

We were laughing after that if all we wanted was a spa, golf and a relaxing day by the pool… we should just go to Palm Springs next time. Two hours closer and probably cheaper.

Any other “do this before the baby comes” advice?

Navigating the Holidays… while eating for two! December 9, 2011

The Holiday Season is here! I love this time of year! But with all the holiday parties, mixers and get-togethers, how are you supposed to get through it pregnant? All my favorite food and drinks are off-limits!

Let’s start with food… cheese and crackers sounds harmless. Oh wait, that brie isn’t pasteurized? Guess I’ll skip and grab some finger sandwiches. What? Deli Meat? The carnal sin of pregnancy. Might get listeria, better pass on that too. Cesar salad or anything with mayo? Has raw egg, must avoid. And those cute little hotdogs on a toothpick? Packed with Nitrates. Awesome. Now I’ve made it all the way around the buffet table and have nothing but a dinner roll and some green beans on my plate.

Ok, I’ll skip the food and just grab a glass of eggnog. Excuse me? That’s off limits too? That’s ok, let’s be honest, I never liked eggnog anyways. Obviously alcohol is on the black list, so no martinis, spiked punch or Baileys & hot cocoa for me this year. I could have coke… but too much caffeine. Diet coke? Aspartame. Guess I’ll stick with water. It’ll wash down my green beans well.

I kid, I kid. In 3+ months of pregnancy I’ve had a single hotdog, a few bites mayo-laden mac salad, a green salad or two with soft cheeses on top and my daily cup of tea. And you know what? I’m ok with that. It’s not like I eat that stuff day in and day out, you can’t take those lists too seriously, right? I’d go crazy with guilt if I did.

In general, I try to eat healthy, rounded meals. I take my vitamin daily and guzzle water all day long. Baby seems to be growing according to plan and everything has been like clockwork so far, a textbook pregnancy, really.

So bring on the Ho Ho Ho’s and the Jolly good times, I’ll be partying with the best of them this season—with Martinelli’s of course.

The Story of Three December 7, 2011

So I can hardly believe it myself, but it’s true. We’re having a baby!!!! As of today, I am 13.5 weeks pregnant (a little over three months). And let me tell you, it’s probably the hardest secret in the world to keep.

Remember back in October we took a trip to Seattle? Well, we flew up there with a pregnancy test in our luggage hoping for some good news while we were there. Still makes me laugh when I think about this. A good mom is always prepared, right?!

I was already five weeks pregnant when I took the test, so we were pretty sure we’d see positive results, but it was still an overwhelming moment to see it confirmed with a big YES! I cried and cried and I think Irving was just in shock. It was a moment I will never forget.

Then we spent the whole day in Seattle sightseeing and repeating over and over again “can you believe it, we’re going to have a baby!” Just felt so surreal.

And then we proceeded to take pictures like this all over the city:

The next morning, we ran out and bought one more test, because really, one is not enough. And then it was official!

Flying home was fun because we knew once we stepped foot in our house again, we’d never be the same. We left as a family of two, and came back knowing we were now a family of three.

Plus we’re getting the baby used to flying early so he/she will have a lifetime of travel. =)

We kept our beautiful little secret to ourselves for a week. We’d find each other smiling back with silly grins once in a while and only we would know why. It was fun.

A week later, we traveled again up to San Francisco for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon, and decided to tell our family then. Irving’s family in person…. and mine via skype. It’s hard being 3,000 miles away, but it was still exciting to “see” them.

The next day, Irving and I walked 13.1 miles together, which flew by since we were chatting about the future.

So there you have it, the story of how two becomes three and how our lives will never be the same.

And the next big adventure is… December 6, 2011

It’s no surprise that we love to travel to new destinations.  My blog has turned itself into a travelogue over time. Every year we try to pick a unique destination that will excite and challenge us and give us a sense of purpose in this world.

We usually have the following year’s trip planned before we even leave on the next one. It’s fun to have something to look forward to all year long.
Dubai & Egypt- Day 2 (30)

People keep asking us where we’re going next. We had some ideas… China keeps popping up in conversation, and Spain is also pretty high on our list. But in 2012, we have other plans.
IMG_1522

Our next big adventure is booked for June 2012. Let me give you a few hints what it will be:

1.) It’s not a trip per se…. it will be a TRIP!!

2.) Everyone who has been there says it’s an absolute blast.

3.) We won’t know what it looks like til we get there.

4.) It ain’t cheap…

5.) …But we’ve never been more excited.

Drum roll please….

And just like that… a travel blog turns to a travel/baby blog. Let the adventure begin!
