The things we remember… October 29, 2010

I always thought it was funny how much random stuff I remember from my childhood. It’s interesting to realize the things that stick and the things that didn’t.

My dad used to recite this poem to me every Halloween and I still remember it to this day. (It’s funny that HE remembers it from HIS childhood too!) When I googled this, it looks like it was an old ‘boy scouts’ riddle they used to teach the kids. Maybe that’s where he learned it from? Someday I’ll teach it to MY kids!

So from the depths of my memory, I present to you a Halloween Poem:

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Hobos and Tramps,
Cock-Eyed Mosquitos,
And Bow-Legged Ants…

Pull up a chair,
Sit on the Floor,
While I begin my speech.

It was early in the morning,
In the middle of the night.
Two dead boys
Got up to fight.

Back to back,
They faced each other,
Drew their swords
And shot each other.

Two dead policemen heard the noise
And came and shot the two dead boys.
If you don’t believe this true lie,
Ask the blind man, he saw it too!

 Happy Halloween!!!

After Linsay’s shower, I spent the rest of the long weekend hanging out with my family and enjoying the beautiful weather.

I was SO excited that Shelby drove out for the weekend too. She’s the proud mama of the adorable Harper.

I saw her in July, but she’s already grown SO much since then. It’s just crazy how fast they grow!

She got passed around a lot when she came over. Mikaela got to hold her!

And my dad! (I think he misses little baby girls!)
IMG_0106

Even my cousins wanted to snuggle with her too!

Thanks for coming over, Shelby! I miss you!

My grandparents came over for brunch on Sunday. It’s always nice to catch up with them in person.

So anyone that knows my mom knows that she can’t sit still for three minutes (in a good way!) She always has to be doing something. And when the weather is nice… that means working in the garden!

She made me grab a shovel and till the garden for the spring.

Gardening is NOT my forte, but we did a great job!

One night, I was puttering around looking through some of my old childhood things, and I came across some old floppy drives. I put one in an old computer and the files were STILL there!!! I was SO excited. I thought i lost some of my old stories I wrote (circa 1993) but they were all still there!

It was a story about a Brain Transplant, and for 5th grade, I thought it was pretty good. HAHA It was over 20 pages long!

It’s silly, but I’m glad I found it! PS… how amazing is this orange text? Technology has come a long ways, my friends!

Monday morning, I met my friends Courtney, Steph and Katie for breakfast at Friendly’s. I hadn’t been to this one since high school! (We used to go after the Football Games I think)!

Later, we went over to Grammie and Papa’s to enjoy some afternoon sunshine. We picked up some authentic Lebanese treats (Zartar and SimSim)!
IMG_0187

I brought some home with me because I was craving it…big time. I really hope we can find some when we’re in the Middle East. Mmmm!

And before I jetted off to the airport, we had a family dinner at home.

These three day getaways are just perfect. Always a little short, but it’s so refreshing. When I go home, my soul gets nourished.

Thank you Christopher Columbus for sailing the ocean blue and giving me three days off to enjoy every drop of it. 🙂

Irving was out of town last week and at first, I was happy to have the house to myself (I only made the bed twice all week, shhh!) But by Friday, I couldn’t wait to see his smilin’ face. I mean come on, who wouldn’t miss this guy:

When I came home from work yesterday, he had just walked through the door. We immediately went out and ordered a pizza to take back. I think we were both too hungry for our own good and we ate the WHOLE pizza minus ONE slice. I think we both decided not to eat the last slice just to say we didn’t really eat a whole Xtra Large Pizza in one swoop. HAHA

But regardless, I’m happy to have him home. He even came armed with PRESENTS from Harris Ranch! Aside from the amazing burgers he brought home for dinner tonight, he brought me my FAVORITE parfait cup!

Chocolate Cake, Vanilla Pudding, Strawberries, Chocolate Sauce, Whipped Cream and Walnuts. Mmmm!

He even tied a bow around it so it looked even prettier (as if you need do anything to make chocolate and whipped cream look prettier, right?)

But that’s not ALL…check this out!

It’s a Candy Corn flavored Lolli-pop!!!! I LOVE CANDY CORN!!!! What a guy.

Missed you babe, welcome back!!!

In other news, I wanted to share the amazing birthday card that my sister Laurie sent me this week!

But first the back story… when we were little, every winter, my family would have a “Beach Party” in the living room. When it was super cold outside, we’d crank up the heat, get into our bathing suits, lay on our beach towels and eat a picnic on the floor with paper plates. It was pretty epic.

Exhibit B:

Inner tubes and flip flops required.

So fast forward to this week, I almost died when I saw this card in the mail from my sister:

Thanks Laurie, that was pretty hilarious!

I’ve  been staying up really late recently, which is really out of character for me. I’m usually out by 10pm or so. But this week I’m just not tired…

So I stayed up tonight to put together a video of our New England Trip. It’s a pretty rough edit, I really hate Windows Movie Maker.

[[Does anyone know of any consumer editing software that is similar to Avid or Final Cut Pro, but for a PC?]]

This video is 2.5 minutes long. Enjoy!!
