A Blissful Evening April 13, 2010

With a week to go until the marathon, I enjoyed an evening of indulgence last night. To reward my body for months of running, I booked a massage at Bliss Spa in Hollywood.

A couple of years ago, I won a magazine contest and the reward was a giftcard to Bliss! (I know, can you believe it took me 3 years to use it up? I was savoring it!)

It just opened up in the new W Hotel down there. I adore chic hotels even if I’m not staying there. It’s just fun to walk around a look at the decor (and maybe steal a cup of orange flavor water in the reception area!)

I went a half hour early so I could relax before hand. I had my own locker with a robe. So fun!

And of course I grabbed some cheese, crackers and BROWNIES! Mmmm

Then I grabbed a magazine and relaxed here for a while until the massage!

The massage was great. The masseuse was actually blind, but it was seriously the most amazing massage I’ve ever had. He used to work at Burke-Williams. I just felt like he was really in tune with every muscle. It was part schiatzu, part swedish. and 100% euphoric. He even put a paraffin wrap on my feet and a cucumber mask on my eyes. Pure Bliss!

I told him I was running a marathon in a week, so he took good care of my calves, IT Band and shins.

Now I feel like I’m ready for Boston both physically and mentally. I just can’t believe I only have 5 days left!

Just a reminder that anyone who donates to Dana-Farber via my fundraising site by tomorrow (Wednesday) gets entered to win the autographed Soccer Ball!! I’ll pick a random winner after work around 9pPST.

(And if you still want to track me on race day, there’s more info here!)
Let me know if you’ll be on the sidelines so I know where to look for you!

Neon Bowling! April 11, 2010

This weekend, we went out with some friends to Pinz! It’s a bowling alley that they often use to shoot tv shows and movies in. Saturday night was “Glow Bowling” night.

I love bowling, but I didn’t do so well this time. I’m so used to the candlepin bowling that we have on the East Coast. This whole “ten pound bowling ball” thing just doesn’t cut it in my book. Give me a little guy I can hold in my hand, and we’ll be good to go.

Candlepin Bowling looks like this:

And real bowling looks like this:

Basically the pins are shaped different and the ball weighs 3x as much!

It was still fun though. We had a great time!

I loved playing around with the long exposure!

Last week, Irving and I went to see the Black Eyed Peas at the Staples Center. Our seats couldn’t have been further from the stage, but they still put on an amazing show! Will.I.Am was just incredible! It was a fun night out….but we were sure glad we brought our binoculars with us!!! HAHAHA Does that make us old?

A Metro Art Walk

Yesterday, I had to go downtown, so I decided to take the metro. YES, Los Angeles has a metro! And a pretty good one too! Being on the subway totally reminds me of Boston. I love to people watch, there’s always lots going on.

I didn’t bring my real camera, so my cell phone had to do. If you know where to look, there is art all around us!

First stop: Union Station.

The tracks remind me of Europe!
I love how old Union Station is. It’s like it’s been frozen in time.

Then I walked around Olvera Street. It’s a very authentic mexican area with cute street vendors and Mariachi music….and of course, Churros!
PS, Irving thinks it’s funny that it looks like I have crown on. HAHA

When in Rome Mexico:

Next stop: Hollywood & Vine
I love the ceiling in there. The entire ceiling is covered in old film reels!

And even though I live here, you can’t go to Hollywood without taking a stroll down the walk of fame!

And guess who’s moving into Hollywood!!!
WHOOO HOOO!!

I ended the day at Border’s Books, where I finally got my hands on the May issue of “Runner’s World”! It’s all about Boston this month! I’m so excited!!!

The Perfect Date April 10, 2010

Irving and I went on the Perfect Date last night. Sadly there was not one picture taken…. but it was too good not to blog about!

We took the Metro downtown after work. I like taking the subway. It reminds me of Boston. I love to people watch and see the scramble of everyday life. Once you get downtown, it really feels like a world away. So different from life in the valley.

We ate at Mendocino Farms and it was really good. It was so fresh and different. My sandwich tasted different than anything I’ve ever had, and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. But it was delicious.

Then we walked through the LA Public Library. If you live in LA, you must go. It is such a museum of art and history. We were sad to hear that because of the budget cuts they are cutting back their hours starting next week. Such a shame. There are many beautiful things to look at, but my favorite is the Children’s room. I love the musty wood ceilings and the old train station style lanterns. And of course hearing the giggles of the kids exploring books is exciting.

There is a huge mural on the wall in one of the atriums, and if you look closely, you can see the same images sewn into the rug of the children’s room. Irving commented that it is a testament to a child’s curiosity and wonder.

After the library, we walked to LA Live. There was a clippers game at the Staples Center, so there were people everywhere, it was fun! We had some ice cream from the New Zealand Ice Cream shop. I think this is their only American location. It was goooood!

After walking around for a bit more, we headed back home. It was the perfect date night. 🙂
