Halloween Horror Nights October 3, 2010

Every year we try to go to Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Nights. It’s always a fun night (even though I’m usually scared the entire time we’re there!)

I started the night off right this time with a little of this:

Gotta do what you gotta do!

Before the park opened, our group headed to Saddle Ranch for dinner.

Irving and I shared this (with extra cherries!)

(It reminded us of our Blue Lagoon Cocktail at our wedding!)

Anyways, after dinner, it was time to head into the park!

The scene was set as soon as we walked in! Freddy!!
IMG_6256

Our first haunted house was the new 3D one. That means sexy glasses:

IMG_6260

The wait times weren’t too bad at first, but then they started to get a little ridiculous!
IMG_6279

But it was fun chatting and hanging out in line.

Look, it’s an Erika/Erica Sandwich!
IMG_6261

Gotta love those insanely long Universal escalators! Here’s the whole group!
IMG_6262

It’s crazy how they transform the park to be haunted at night. A lot of the day time stuff gets covered up. We thought this sign was really funny…’Nightmare on Elm Street…Presented in Ogre Vision”. haha They put the haunted house behind Shrek 3D. haha
IMG_6263

And then there’s this…
IMG_6265

We were in the park til 1:30a so by that time, everything seemed funny. 🙂

After a few more haunted houses, we finally made it to the “Terror Tram”. The theme this year was ‘Chucky’.
IMG_6266

The tram drops you off and you get to walk through the backlot of the studio. This year, the walking path was SO COOL. You go from ‘Whoville’ through the ‘Bates Mote’l’. Very cool. They’ve never done that before.

IMG_6274

Before we left, we stopped for one more haunted house… the House of Horrors:
IMG_6277

That one wasn’t too scary, but then again, by 1:30a, I was over it.

It was such a fun night. It’s fun to be scared once in a while. Makes you feel like a kid again. 🙂

Last night, Irving and I went to see Green Day at the Irvine Amphitheater. It took us forever to get there… almost two hours. We couldn’t figure out why they’d want to play there and not somewhere closer to LA. But believe me, it was definitely worth the drive.

AFI opened for them, but by the time we got there, we were starving, so we skipped them and had dinner instead. 🙂

I snuck in my awesome lollipop for dessert. HAHA

First of all, the set was AMAZING. Definitely one of the best music sets we’ve EVER seen at a concert. It was beautiful and entertaining. And the choreography of the lights was amazing too.

See that city landscape? That was all a video screen! So cool!

They played sooo many songs. About 38 in total! They seriously played for THREE hours straight!!!! [here’s the set list]

I LOVED that they played almost every song from the Dookie album! It was amazing to hear all those songs live. I used to listen to that album (ahem… on cassette tape) over and over!

I have a great video of them doing this song that I’ll post later… but that fire was all fake, but it looked so real!

They are just amazing. They had so much energy and went from old stuff to new stuff just like that.

I thought the band was just the three of them: Billi Joe, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt…. so who was this random guy rocking out in the back? lol

It’s amazing that Green Day has been together since 1993? They sill rule rock and roll like no one else can. The show was SO impressive.

Three hours later, we walked away feeling like kids again. It’s shows like this that make the ticket prices and Itunes downloads seem worth the money. What a fun night!

Billy and Sara’s Trip to LA! May 10, 2010

This weekend, my cousin Billy and his girlfriend, Sara, were in Los Angeles.
(Actually, we’re 4th cousins, our great-grandmothers were sisters!)

They are on an amazing 3 month road trip across the United States.
You can find their awesome blog and see their map here!

(He’s also launching a fun dating site soon, check it out: www.LoversCanBeChoosers.com )

When I found out they would be passing through LA, I was so excited to play tourguide for a day (and give them a break from all that driving!)

We started our day out in Santa Monica. The skies were overcast, but once we got to the beach, it had cleared up.
IMG_3706

Did you know that old historic route 66 ended in Santa Monica?
IMG_3704

One of the stores had this awesome display of foreign currency!
IMG_3708

The Pier was really pretty:
IMG_3709

I love this giant concrete thing on the beach. When they roll it out, it imprints a map of Los Angeles into the sand!
IMG_3710

I really should go to the beach more often. It’s so pretty.

Me and Billy:

Then we headed down to Venice Beach. I’m always hesitant to go down there because it is kind of weird. But they did clean it up a little bit since the last time I was there. They just put in this awesome skate park for the kids. It’s like an urban playground. I think it’s a great idea.
IMG_3717

IMG_3718

Then we ate at in-and-out (where you just have to eat when you visit LA).
We went to Rodeo Drive/Beverly Hills and then over to Hollywood.

I took a detour up Mulholland Drive for the most amazing views back on Los Angeles.

IMG_3720

IMG_3721

Then we wandered around Hollywood & Highland for a bit and met up with Irving.

Then we drove up the other side to the Hollywood Sign.

The sun was setting and we had some great light for photos!
(Hi Irving!)

Sara!
IMG_3728

Great picture guys!

 IMG_3732

And a few of us too!

IMG_3733

IMG_3735

We can jump too!
IMG_3738

Just not as high as they do!
IMG_3739

HAHA

Then we headed over to City Walk where we ate at Saddle Ranch.
And I have to admit… I rode the Bull for the first time!
IMG_3741

Billy and Sara went first and they made it look easy!
IMG_3744

I decided that I’d only ride it in my Boston Marathon Jacket. lol

Did you see how the Bull totally hit me in the head at the end?!?! That was NOT fun!

But dinner was pretty amazing. It doesn’t matter what you order, as long as you get a side of the Sweet Potato Casserole with it. Dude. This stuff is amazing. Roasted Marshmallows on top!
IMG_3747

And that pretty much was sweet enough to be called dessert.

Until the waitress brought THIS over “on the house”!
IMG_3750
COTTON CANDY! What?! This thing was as big as 2 basketballs!

We had a few a lot of pieces…
IMG_3749
And then we poured water over the top and watched it melt. It was pretty impressive.

And that concludes our 13 hour tour around Los Angeles!

A Metro Art Walk April 11, 2010

Yesterday, I had to go downtown, so I decided to take the metro. YES, Los Angeles has a metro! And a pretty good one too! Being on the subway totally reminds me of Boston. I love to people watch, there’s always lots going on.

I didn’t bring my real camera, so my cell phone had to do. If you know where to look, there is art all around us!

First stop: Union Station.

The tracks remind me of Europe!
I love how old Union Station is. It’s like it’s been frozen in time.

Then I walked around Olvera Street. It’s a very authentic mexican area with cute street vendors and Mariachi music….and of course, Churros!
PS, Irving thinks it’s funny that it looks like I have crown on. HAHA

When in Rome Mexico:

Next stop: Hollywood & Vine
I love the ceiling in there. The entire ceiling is covered in old film reels!

And even though I live here, you can’t go to Hollywood without taking a stroll down the walk of fame!

And guess who’s moving into Hollywood!!!
WHOOO HOOO!!

I ended the day at Border’s Books, where I finally got my hands on the May issue of “Runner’s World”! It’s all about Boston this month! I’m so excited!!!
