We went out to eat last night with Erika and Timmy. Seems to be a regular Sunday Night tradition. Such a nice way to end the weekend: good food with good friends.

Last night, we headed to Canter’s Deli in Hollywood. They haven’t been before, and it’s kind of a Los Angeles staple. (Plus I really wanted Matzo Ball Soup!)

The food is great, the decor and the prices however are not. But like I said, the food is great.

That being said, want to see what $40 buys you at Canters?

Bowl of Matzo Ball Soup (with Bagel Chips)

Grilled Cheese (with Ruffle? chips) —Check out that AMAZING cheese!

Monte Cristo (The husband has to eat too!)

Yep. We paid $40 for grilled cheese, soup, a fried sandwich and some chips. And it was awesome. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

A Very Pink Baby Shower April 9, 2011

Today, I hosted a baby shower at my house for my good friends, Erika and Timmy. They are expecting a baby girl in a month or so and we are SO excited for them! I’ve been collaborating with her mom on the party, and I think it came out so cute! I think baby Sophie will love all her gifts!

We totally lucked out that it’s Easter Season because Easter Colors = Baby Shower colors!
IMG_5134

Timmy’s sister made an awesome Diaper Cake! Very Cute!
IMG_5160

I could never make a cake that would come out remotely as good as Erika could, so I didn’t even try. I left the cake to the professionals and got some Yummy Cupcakes. Wise decision. They were awesome!
IMG_5155

Sugar Close-Up Awesomeness!
IMG_5156

Since Erika loves books (who doesn’t!), we asked everyone to bring their favorite childhood book to add to Sophie’s bookshelf. Lots of fun kids books! I loved seeing what everyone picked. No duplicates either!

We played a couple of fun games. (And no, we did NOT play the ‘smell the diaper’ game. That’s gross.)
IMG_5163

First up was ‘How Big is the Bump’.
IMG_5168

We each cut some Tummy Tape the length we thought would fit around mama’s belly. Closest one wins!
Janet came the closest! The rest of us were way off. haha sorry Erika!
IMG_5175

The second game we played was called ‘The Mommy Multitasker’! Each person had to pretend to hold a baby and be on the phone while trying to pin socks to the clothesline with one hand. The most socks pinned in 30 seconds wins!
IMG_5180

IMG_5189

The guys tried too. It was quite funny to watch!

We had three rounds of ties before finally finding a winner!

Since we had a small group, we decided to bring in some food from Pitfire Pizza. AMAZING. They have the best pizza.

IMG_5178

They got so many great gifts. I think Baby Sophie will have everything she needs when she makes her debut into the world.

It was nice that Timmy was there too. I think he was getting a kick out of all the cute little baby things.

It was neat that some people got to watch via Skype.
IMG_5242

We made goodie bags for all the guests too.
IMG_5132

Each bag contained a cute notepad, a Cheerios Cereal Bar (they used to call the baby Cheerio before they knew it was going to be a girl!), some chocolate and a homemade bookmark.

Congratulations guys. We’re SO excited to meet the baby in just a few weeks!

And today, I climbed a Mountain. April 3, 2011

That’s right. Yesterday, I was in the valley of ‘woe is me’, and today, I climbed a mountain. IMG_5073

We slept in this morning, woke up feeling refreshed but in desperate need of some fresh air. We needed a sweaty hike to reconnect with ourselves and with nature. Something to pull us back in.
IMG_5051

We hiked a 6 mile trail in the Verdugo Mountains. But we made one wrong turn at the beginning and found this!
IMG_5044

We had to turn around and backtrack to find the trailhead.
IMG_5046

Once we got going, it was really nice, but the first 2.5 miles were straight uphill. It was HARD!
IMG_5052

The incline was killer and seemed to drag on and on. But the views definitely made up for it.
IMG_5053

I love seeing LA from up above. It feels so big (especially in traffic), but from up there, it looks so small and quiet.
IMG_5055

But this was just the halfway point…And then the climb continued. And continued. And continued.
IMG_5054

I was SO thankful for the overcast sky today (I’m not a happy camper in the heat). But we came prepared anyways.
IMG_5058 IMG_5057

A few times, I really wanted to give up. I jokingly begged Irving to let us turn around before reaching the top. See that tower at the top of that hill? That was the goal. Look how far away (and high) it looks!) We’d already been hiking for an hour by this point too!
IMG_5056

Every time I would think we’re getting closer, it seemed impossible to reach. (I think I’m really out of shape). We got passed by a couple of people. HAHA).

But each time I wanted to quit, I kept thinking that I can’t call my blog post “I ALMOST climbed a mountain!” I had to REALLY climb it! All the way to the top!
IMG_5060

And then finally, we made it. My, how far we’ve come.
IMG_5061

That’s what a 2,689ft elevation climb will give you. Check out this elevation map from my Garmin! Straight up and straight down!
mountain

At the top, someone built a chair. And whoever this person is deserves a hug. I LOVE YOU CHAIR!
IMG_5063

I sat in it for a good ten minutes and took in the view. Felt SO good to get out and do something for myself today.
IMG_5064

We did it babe! And it hurts so good! What a workout!
IMG_5065

I only went as far as that chair, but Irving wanted to actually touch the gate of the tower…. I told him to go for it…
IMG_5071

…But I’m staying riiiiiight here. haha
IMG_5072

Instead of coming back down the mountain the way we came, we kept going on the trail that eventually looped back around. Here’s the map from my Garmin. After lunch, we did walk back to where we started to completely finish the loop.
mountain2

At the bottom of the trail, we ate lunch at the Golf Club.
IMG_5081IMG_5074

As soon as we sat down, my Garmin chimed ‘6 miles’. I love nice round milage numbers.
IMG_5075

We were really hungry (it was 2:30p by the time we were done!) I got the BLTA and it was killer! Oh man, hit the spot.
IMG_5077

We relaxed, and watched the birds pick at the crumbs other people’s kids left behind.
IMG_5079

It was a half mile back to the car, so that brings our hike to 6.5 miles total.

On the way back home, we stopped to pick up some groceries for the week. The usual. But how funny is this sign for Ramen Noodles? People did double takes looking at the sign, too funny. The scary thing is, there actually was a point in my life where I may have thought that was an incredible deal. ha!

IMG_5082

Tonight, our friends Erika and Timmy came over to have dinner and play some games. (Erika Killed us in Yahtzee!)

Irving made some Chili Cheese Dogs on the grill. They were from Omaha Steak and we really liked them. No better way to kick off summer than with a cookout.

We were supposed to put the chili on the dog like this…
IMG_5085

But I preferred to have my chili on the side.
IMG_5084

I’m always looking for an excuse to eat Ketchup. yes!
IMG_5086

Served with a side of homemade Pasta Salad. Very excited to have leftovers for lunch this week!

~~~~~~~~~
In other news, The 200-Mile Ragnar Relay is in 12 days! I’m slated to do 12.3 miles total, but I’m really hoping to squeak in another mile in there somewhere to count it as a half marathon! After this hike, I feel ready. Let’s do this!
An Unusual Backdrop… March 29, 2011
Filed under: Friends — Kelocity @ 10:27 am
Last night, Irving and I came home, cleaned up a bit, did a little grocery shopping and then changed into our PJs. We were fully prepared to zone out in front of our computers and get a little office work done (more on that later!)
Then our friend, Erica texted to see if we were up for going on a neighborhood walk. It was a no-brainer. We changed and headed out the door, and it was pretty awesome. We ended up doing a 3.6 mile stroll around the area, chatting and brainstorming about all kinds of things. We’re so lucky to have so many great friends close by!
At one point, we passed by this big dumpster and for some reason, I thought it would be a cool backdrop for a photo shoot. Might make an unusual backdrop, but I was pretty excited about it. haha (Picture Courtesy of Erica!)
She got a great shot with the dumpster too (with the use of an automatic timer!) Hop over to her site to see it!
High School Friends are the BEST! March 26, 2011
This week, two of my oldest high school friends were in LA. I’ve known Mike and Billy since 1997, and it’s so great that we keep in touch now. We met up for lunch and dinner and it was SO nice to catch up. Every time some East Coast friends come out to visit, it makes LA a little less lonely for me. SO glad we were able to catch up!
Mike, Erika, Billy and me!
We had (and still have) a great group of friends from High school. This was during my new years party in 2001. (Remember Y2K? lol)
PS. Blogging about the past would be SO much easier if we had digital cameras back then.
