An evening jog… June 12, 2010

I just got done with a 2.5 mile jog around my neighborhood. I love that hour of twilight between 7 and 8pm when the sun is setting and all the neighbors come out to play. I felt like everyone was out tonight. Kids were riding their bikes, parents were laughing and sprinklers were watering suburban lawns. It just reminds me of home, it’s so nice. I just took my time and really enjoyed everything that the summer evening had to offer.

Then I started thinking that I should set some kind of long term goal for myself. I’ve run 11 long distance marathons over the past 6 years (8 half-marathons and 3 full-marathons).

Then this brilliant idea was born:

The 20 Before 30!

I think I would love to do 20 endurance races before I turn 30. That gives me just over 3 years to complete 9 more. I plan to do two more half marathons in the fall… so then I’ll have 7 more to do in the next 2.5 years. Do you think I can do it?

PS… I finally bought my Boston Marathon photos…. It was totally worth it (I found a coupon for 30% off, SCORE!)

Here’s a few teasers!

Sad it’s over… May 20, 2010

Filed under: Run DFMC — Kelocity @ 10:25 am

Lately, every time I think about the Boston Marathon, I get really sad. I’m just sad that it’s over. I feel like it went by too fast. I wish I breathed it in more, I wish I looked around more. At night, I replay the day in my head, over and over again. I feel like the details are fading.

(I remember feeling the same way after my wedding. On the plane to Iceland for our honeymoon, I remember closing my eyes, trying to etch each little moment into my memory.)

At times, it really does feel like the Boston Marathon was just a dream. And then I get sad when I realize it DID happen, and I’ll probably never have the chance to run it again. That was my one shot at it. I will never qualify for Boston, and I’m just not sure how feasible it would be to fund-raise again. I shelled out close to $1,000 between the entry fees, donations and flights.

So now the question becomes…. to buy the overpriced race photos or not.
MarathonFoto took 20 great photos of me on the course.

I really want them to 1.) Scrapbook with them! 2.) To remember & celebrate those moments on the race course.

They’re just so expensive! I’m trying to justify the cost…. They don’t have 4×6 sizes, so the cheapest one is a 5×7 and they are $14.95 a piece! They also have a package where you get all images on a CD (so you can print them yourself) for $79.95.

So what do you think? Should I buy one or two for $15 each… or spring for the bigger package and get ALL the images for $80? Is it worth it?

I got an exciting postcard in the mail today:

It had each of my 5K splits:

And some other depressing stats that I’m choosing to ignore:

Really? There were only 125 people behind me out of the entire field of 22,645? Oh well. Who cares.

Here are some of my official photos from the race:

***Edited to add that I only picked this song because it was called “Miles to go”… sorry it’s not exactly “clean”… whoops!***

My sister took this video of me running to the finish line. This was the last .2 of the race!
