I can’t decide if BlogHer weekend felt like 10 days or 10 minutes. It’s crazy how many people I met and how much I learned in such a short amount of time. Overall, it was really great and I’m excited to try out some new things I learned.

Now that I’m safely back home, I can tell you where we stayed for the weekend! The La Pensione Hotel in Little Italy is one of our favorites. We stay there every time we go to San Diego since the rates are low and the location is great. IMG_6878

It’s right in the heart of Little Italy and just a block away from the Trolley.

They recently updated the rooms too, so it’s got a European Chic look now. I love the grey + silver color scheme they have now!

Our room had been renovated, but there were others that were completely redone from the bottom up. We asked to take a peek and they were gorgeous. Next time we’re staying in one of these!

Sigh. I just love nice hotels. Especially the ones that are cute, off the beaten path, and really feel like home. (Not that my home has an awesome bathroom like this, but you know what I mean).

So back to the conference, after I had breakfast with Bob, I headed over to the Daisy Cottage Cheese Refuel & Recharge suite. I was invited to have a snack, talk about nutrition and get a spa treatment. Sign me up!

Just a tid-bit from what I learned, Daisy Cottage Cheese only has three ingredients: Cultured skim milk, cream and salt. That’s it. It was a perfect mid-day snack! Thanks for the invite, ladies!

I also did a paraffin hand treatment before I left too. Have you ever done that? You literally submerge your hands into piping hot wax and let it harden, then it peels off! So cool! That was definitely a first for me!

After that, I popped back into some sessions to learn some more! First up was Til Blog Do Us Part. I initially thought it was about how blogging affects relationships and marriages. I think blogging is definitely a delicate subject that your spouse and family really should be on board with. I’m lucky that I do have the support of my husband and family (love you!) However, the session mostly talked about blogging about divorce, remarriage and mixed families. Though it didn’t really apply to me, it was still interesting to hear the panel, specifically the man below, who co-writes a blog with his ex-wife about raising their children.

I snuck out of that one a few minutes early to catch the end of Blog Design and I was sad to have missed the beginning of it. It really sounded like an awesome session about what makes blogs look good from font to sidebars to headers. (Kelocity needs a header, don’t you think? Working on it!)

Then lunch! As I was in line to make my plate, I did a double take and saw the beautiful Kelle from Enjoying the Small Things. I read about 200 blogs a day, and if there was ONE blog that I could recommend, it would be this one. She and her family will melt your heart, you MUST go over there right now and look. Seriously go! I was totally star struck when I saw her. And little Nella was just TOO CUTE!

I’ll be back soon with the last of the BlogHer Recaps! I’m off to watch Meet Joe Black with my husband! They shot the movie at the same place where my friend had her wedding two weeks ago, so now we’re dying to see it in the film!

Last night I finished packing up for BlogHer! Hope I didn’t forget anything!!IMG_6781

I am only traveling with a carryon suitcase, which seemed a little tight considering I’m bringing FOUR pairs of shoes! (Who am I?!)
IMG_6780

But we always travel with Eagle Creek’s Pack-It system, so it keeps everything neat and compressed.IMG_6782

Viola! All that fit into one folder! Impressive, no?
IMG_6783

I managed to fit all my clothes, toiletries, shoes, chargers, etc in there! Whew! It took a few hours, but I think it worked. Now I’m pumped!
I was hoping to also fit a walk in this morning, but I’ve just been SO tired this week. I’ve had one too many late-nights in a row, and it’s really catching up to me! I can’t wait for our hotel sleep tonight. I always sleep well when we travel. I don’t plan on getting much rest this weekend, but I think I’ll be too excited to care.

A few weeks back, I was asked to review the new Ear Bud clip from ClipE. The idea is that it keeps your headphones from getting caught when you run or workout. This has always been an annoyance of mine, so I gladly agreed to review them.

Listening to music while I run is actually new to me in the past year or so. I used to run without it and now, I can never go back. I listen to everything from music to audio books to NPR podcasts. I have tried holding my ipod in my hand, in my shorts pocket, in my fuel belt… even threading the wire under my sports bra.

I even purchased a shirt last year that is specifically designed for headphone wires, but even that started pulling after a while and I had to just take my headphones off.

The ClipE was invented by a professional pilot and an avid runner. She actually got the idea from the way cables were organized in the cockpit of a plane. But the final result is both useful AND fashionable.

I love the design that they sent me, the color even matches my ipod!

I tried them out using my ipod earphones, but I think it would work with any brand, as long as the cords are not too thick.

The clip is pretty small, about the size of a quarter, and slips right onto your earphones by squeezing the small clip on the back. Then that same clips goes right on your shirt wherever you want it.

I have used it twice so far. Once on a run and once on a walk. It definitely keeps the cord in place and doesn’t budge at all, which is nice. You have to make sure you give it enough slack so if you turn your head too far it won’t pull, but once it’s adjusted, it does stay really well.

I was able to swing my arms when I ran without getting the wires snagged. I tried it in a few places on my shirt (My sleeve and my chest), but I liked it best on my left shoulder (since my ipod was in my left pocket). I even forgot I had it on it was so comfortable.

I don’t have any complaints about it except that it doesn’t sit flat on your shirt. Since it’s clipped on, it actually sits sideways.

Overall, I really like it. I’m going to keep it clipped onto my headphones so whenever I need it, it will be there to attach.

You can purchase them online through their Amazon store here for $7.95.

Thanks to ClipE who sent me this product free for the purposes of reviewing it. As always, all opinions are my own.

BlogHer Newbie Anxiety! August 3, 2011

I’ve been talking about going to the BlogHer Conference for over a year now. It’s a weekend-long event dedicated to women and blogging, and I really wanted to be a part of it. My husband surprised me by buying my registration and hotel as a Christmas gift last year (Hubby of the year, right?!) I’ve had my ticket for eight months now and the Conference is finally here!!!

But this week, my excitement has sort of morphed into a mix between anxiety, stress and nervousness. As if looking at the agenda and seeing the overwhelming number of events isn’t scary enough…. then there’s the pressure of looking good, meeting people and networking. Of course, that’s the reason why I’m going in the first place (at least the networking part), but I’m going to be one of 3,000 attendees! What do I have to offer that no one else will? Will I be fun enough? Social enough? It’s a little scary going solo as a BlogHer newbie.

After reading a bunch of #BlogHer11 tweets and seeing how everyone was running out to get new shoes for the cocktail parties, I went shopping at lunch today to get a new pair too. And I almost walked out with a new purse too, and then I stopped myself. If I need a new bag to feel like I “belong” at BlogHer, clearly my priorities are messed up. Where are all these negative thoughts coming from? Why is my stomach in knots?

Perhaps it will help to have some goals for this weekend:
1.) Introduce myself to as many people as possible, hand out my business cards (and collect some too), and meet a few new friends
2.) Attend as many of the workshops as I can and soak in as much information as possible
3.) Get out of my comfort zone and attend a few parties
4.) Remember that I deserve to be there just as much as anyone else. Be Confident!

Tonight, I plan on packing, plucking my eyebrows and getting a good night’s sleep. I hope to arrive tomorrow night fresh, excited and eager & willing to learn.

If you happen to see this girl this weekend, please say hi!
