Last night I finished packing up for BlogHer! Hope I didn’t forget anything!!IMG_6781

I am only traveling with a carryon suitcase, which seemed a little tight considering I’m bringing FOUR pairs of shoes! (Who am I?!)
IMG_6780

But we always travel with Eagle Creek’s Pack-It system, so it keeps everything neat and compressed.IMG_6782

Viola! All that fit into one folder! Impressive, no?
IMG_6783

I managed to fit all my clothes, toiletries, shoes, chargers, etc in there! Whew! It took a few hours, but I think it worked. Now I’m pumped!
I was hoping to also fit a walk in this morning, but I’ve just been SO tired this week. I’ve had one too many late-nights in a row, and it’s really catching up to me! I can’t wait for our hotel sleep tonight. I always sleep well when we travel. I don’t plan on getting much rest this weekend, but I think I’ll be too excited to care.

A few weeks back, I was asked to review the new Ear Bud clip from ClipE. The idea is that it keeps your headphones from getting caught when you run or workout. This has always been an annoyance of mine, so I gladly agreed to review them.

Listening to music while I run is actually new to me in the past year or so. I used to run without it and now, I can never go back. I listen to everything from music to audio books to NPR podcasts. I have tried holding my ipod in my hand, in my shorts pocket, in my fuel belt… even threading the wire under my sports bra.

I even purchased a shirt last year that is specifically designed for headphone wires, but even that started pulling after a while and I had to just take my headphones off.

The ClipE was invented by a professional pilot and an avid runner. She actually got the idea from the way cables were organized in the cockpit of a plane. But the final result is both useful AND fashionable.

I love the design that they sent me, the color even matches my ipod!

I tried them out using my ipod earphones, but I think it would work with any brand, as long as the cords are not too thick.

The clip is pretty small, about the size of a quarter, and slips right onto your earphones by squeezing the small clip on the back. Then that same clips goes right on your shirt wherever you want it.

I have used it twice so far. Once on a run and once on a walk. It definitely keeps the cord in place and doesn’t budge at all, which is nice. You have to make sure you give it enough slack so if you turn your head too far it won’t pull, but once it’s adjusted, it does stay really well.

I was able to swing my arms when I ran without getting the wires snagged. I tried it in a few places on my shirt (My sleeve and my chest), but I liked it best on my left shoulder (since my ipod was in my left pocket). I even forgot I had it on it was so comfortable.

I don’t have any complaints about it except that it doesn’t sit flat on your shirt. Since it’s clipped on, it actually sits sideways.

Overall, I really like it. I’m going to keep it clipped onto my headphones so whenever I need it, it will be there to attach.

You can purchase them online through their Amazon store here for $7.95.

Thanks to ClipE who sent me this product free for the purposes of reviewing it. As always, all opinions are my own.

Giveaway: Workout with a Celebrity Trainer! January 21, 2011

I’ve never been a natural athlete. Running is something I started back in 2005 as a way to meet people when I moved to Los Angeles. Training for my first marathon was supposed to be a once in a lifetime achievement for me. I was going to run my miles, and go back to my ‘normal’ life. But running stuck. Six years and 13 full and half marathons later, I’m still training.

But I’ve fallen into a rut recently. I feel like I have a mental block and can’t find the motivation to keep going. Exercise  and eating healthy has fallen to the wayside. But it’s a new year, and with one 2011 race already under my belt, I’m pumped for the other events I already have lined up.

This is the perfect time to announce a great event: “Be Fit and Pain Free in 2011!”
Me and a guest have been invited to this healthy living training session, sponsored by Salonpas.

Kathy Kaehler is a celebrity trainer and fitness expert for the Today Show. This lady knows her stuff. (She’s a runner too!). And she will be hosting a Private Workout Session for people in LA looking to renew their focus on Healthy Living. And YOU are invited!

This giveaway is only open to readers in the Los Angeles area. The event will be held on January 29th from 9-11am.

A while back, I received a sample of Salonpas in a race goodie bag. It’s like an icy hot patch that soothes achy muscles both during and after a run.  I also use it on my neck when I get migraines and it feels SO good. If I put it on at night, I can still feel it tingling in the morning. I wouldn’t be holding this giveaway if I didn’t already like this product.

Even if you don’t win, you can still go to the Facebook page and request a FREE sample! See, everybody wins!

Safety First! January 20, 2011

Tonight, I went out to a bar with some friends after work. Instead of alcohol, I got a seltzer/cranberry (two please!) And I passed on all the yummy (but incredibly greasy) appetizers. Part of me was sad because those deep fried cheese balls looked gooooood! But I also felt empowered. I am the girl with absolutely no will power. And tonight was victorious. I told my friends that I couldn’t indulge because I was going for a run after! And once I had in my head that I was going, there were no excuses and no battles in my head.

I was going running tonight. And that was that.

The other night, Irving and I almost got run over by a seemingly drunk driver. So tonight, we exercised caution and prepared for a nighttime jog. Don’t be jealous of my super reflective crossing guard running vest!
IMG_3123

Florecent Yellow and pink is MY color, yes?

IMG_3124

I also sported the blinking light arm band. Oh yes!
IMG_3134

Irving and I did a slow 3-mile jog, it was fun to catch up, and keep my promise to myself to run. SUCCESS!

Collection of Medals

I love my new medal! It’s my first Rock N’ Roll medal!
IMG_3116

Last night, I added it to my collection! It’s looking a little crowded in there now!

When I started running five years ago, I made this medal holder for myself. I hadn’t seen anything like it online, so I bought the wood and the pegs and painted it all together. Back then, three pegs seemed like enough! I never dreamed I’d still be running.

I let Irving put his medals on my hanger too, but now I think he might have to find another place for his. (No offense, Irving, but I have more than you. I need more room!)

IMG_3119

At the expo, I was drooling over these beautiful handmade hangers. Look at all those hooks!

MUST. GET. MORE. MEDALS!

Anyone know of any great races on the west coast in march/april/may?

Preparing for Phoenix! January 13, 2011

Wow, I’ve totally lost my groove for planning for a race weekend. It’s only been a few months, but I’m feeling a little bit anxious. I used to be all into it. I’d have everything all laid out and packed up. But this time, I kind of don’t want to pack. I wish it would just appear in my suitcase without much thought.

So my husband went to Target tonight and came back with some presents!

Heineken Light cans! He claims they will fit better into his golf bag when he’s out on the course.
They’re taller and thinner than usual cans. Hey man, can’t argue with that!
IMG_2895

He told me I could have one tonight because they are “only 90 calories”. (Says the man who ate half a jar of Nutella in one sitting tonight!) But I have to give him credit, beer was an excellent idea to help with the packing.

IMG_2893

I rocked out quite the list.

Now… if only I can manage to get it all in a bag tonight….

A Chilly Balboa Park Run! January 9, 2011

This morning I joined the Los Angeles Racers at Balboa Park for a jog. I wanted to do 5 miles, but I’m just a wee bit out of shape and ended up only doing three today.

IMG_2874

I had a fun running buddy though!

IMG_2870

Muggles came along to keep me company!
IMG_2875

I think he had a good time!

I’m running the Phoenix Rock N’ Roll Half-Marathon next Sunday, and I have to say I’m a little bit nervous. I haven’t had a serious training run since the fall. I’m a good role model for how not to train for an event. But hopefully it’ll all work out. I’ll just do a fair share of walking.

I tested out my new Zensah compression sleeves this morning though.

They were awesome. They kept me warm and I could feel my muscles being supported more. Excited to wear them on Sunday!

I hope I see SkinnyRunner and CarrotsNCake there! Anyone else going?

Boston Marathon Running Gear May 20, 2010

I didn’t think I cared about having any more Boston Marathon gear. I mean, I got the jacket and that was pretty much all I really wanted. And on top of that, I LOVE the long sleeve technical shirt they gave us at the expo. AND I got a sweet Boston visor.

But when I was running last week, I realized that I REALLY wanted a “Boston Marathon” shirt I could run in. So people out on the running trail could be like “Oh wow, that girl ran the Boston Marathon!” So I ordered this awesome shirt from Adidas.

Capture

I actually ordered in two different sizes because technical shirts always run really small. But I LOVE this shirt!

IMG_3789

It’s a little warm, I might not be able to wear it on really long runs when it gets hot, but it was really comfortable. It’s made for the new Adidas Mi (which I think is their answer to the Nike+). So it has a pocket for your MP3 player (and keys!)
IMG_3795

And then the wire goes up through the shirt and comes out through a hole on the top! Brilliant!

IMG_3796

It keeps your headphones in place and they don’t bounce around. It “locks” the wire in place. I love this.

And of course, it has my Boston Marathon logo on the front. YAY!

IMG_3802

I also got this cotton t-shirt….because what the heck, I finished, right!

Capture

It’s cotton, so I can’t run in it, but it’s still really nice. It’s the perfect weekend shirt.
(PS… all the BAA gear has been marked down on their website!)

In other news, Irving and I went on a walk tonight and we saw three skunks… and a cute little baby skunk! And I also did a cartwheel in someone’s front lawn. It was very exciting.
