Irving and I woke up early and drove down to SeaWorld for the day on Sunday! My friend Courtney was in San Diego and since it’s only two hours from LA, we thought SeaWorld would be the perfect opportunity to catch up and do something fun!

We started our day by going up the Sky Tower (a ride that takes you 328 feet up above the park)!  We could see all the tanks below with the dolphins and whales swimming around.

Adele loved it, obviously.

Then we headed over to ride the roller coaster! Daddy and Adele chickened out, but Courtney and I rode the Manta and LOVED it! I giggled and screamed the whole time, it was awesome!
IMG_1682

We brought our new umbrella stroller and I think Adele liked it. What a life, right?

Ok, Adele. Where should we go next?
IMG_1702

Yea? You want to see the dolphins? Ok, let’s do it!

IMG_1720Look, mama! Fishies!

IMG_1731

All around the park are individual aquariums, so we checked out the Sea Turtle exhibit next. These guys are awesome!

IMG_1750

It was nice to be able to go from inside to outside so we never got too hot.
IMG_1768

I think her favorite part of the entire day was watching the roller coaster go by. haha Maybe because it’s so big and loud, but she was pretty mesmerized by it.

IMG_1770

Adele was excited to hang out with Courtney so Irving and I could check out the Shark exhibit together. haha It was like a 3 minute date! haha We even held hands when we walked through. Awe.

And then it was time! Shamu Time!!
IMG_1785(Mom, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a killer whale, have I?) So awesome!

IMG_1800

Hey, buddy!

Then it was time to see Shamu in action!
IMG_1828

Adele took a 10 minute nap ALL day, so she was pretty zonked by this point, but she still paid attention and watched, even from up high!
IMG_1831

IMG_1836

After the show, we walked around for a bit hoping Adele would fall asleep (spoiler alert: she didn’t), but we got to look at the Penguins and the Beluga whales! So awesome.
IMG_1839

What a great, great day. Adele was amazing and we all had a blast. It was nice to remember that San Diego is really in our backyard.
IMG_1840

Then, to keep it interesting, we headed to Old Town in San Diego for some amazing authentic Mexican Food. Yes! I almost don’t want to tell you about it because we like to keep it our little secret. (*cough*cough* Casa Guadalajara *cough*cough*) We ordered way too much food and left stuffed to the gills. We also ordered Adele food from the kids menu for the first time! Quasadilla with rice & beans with a side of fruit. She had plenty of leftovers, but she enjoyed it. Suffice it to say, she slept in the car for the entire two hours it took to get home. (and then another 12 hours straight after that!) Yea, she was tired.

I think Courtney needs to visit us more often!

The Lost World of Atlantis! November 9, 2010

Originally 10/27/2010…

We dedicated a full day to the Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis. I had been to Atlantis in the Bahamas and I knew we would both love to do it together. Atlantis Dubai is on the tip of the ‘Palm Island’ (the manmade islands shaped like a palm tree).
IMG_0697

Irving was the Ultimate Tourist. HAHA
IMG_0867

On the other side of Atlantis is the Arabian Gulf (or Persian Gulf). It was really pretty.
IMG_0692

IMG_0694

We arrived three full hours before the park opened. We thought that we could walk around the grounds and take pictures, but this wasn’t really the case. We had to beg our way into the hotel so we didn’t have to wait outside. We passed the time looking at the giant aquarium inside.

We also finagled our way into the hotel lobby (which is supposed to be for hotel guests only).
IMG_0698

There was a gorgeous Chuli sculpture in the middle. I think the Bahamas Atlantis had one as well.
IMG_0701 IMG_0709

We still had a couple of hours to kill, so we had a leisurely breakfast in a café overlooking the hotel pools.
IMG_0872

Finally it was time to buy our wristbands and get into the park! The bands have a computer chip in them that you connect to your credit card and you can use it to unlock the lockers, and buy food and drinks. cool, huh?
IMG_0890

Our first stop was the beautiful white beaches along the gulf.
IMG_0897

I remember learning about “The Gulf” in school, and it was so cool to actually be there and put your toes in the water. Or jump right in!
IMG_0754

You can see the Dubai skyline from the beach. Just gorgeous. The land in the foreground is one of the ‘palm island’ leaves.
IMG_0749

Then we headed to Aquaventure.
IMG_0948

We started out on the lazy river to get a lay of the land. It takes you around the park on an innertube.
IMG_0900

The coolest part about Atlantis are the Water Coasters. They are actual waterslides but they have jet propulsion that shoot you down AND up like a waterslide! And you don’t ever have to get out of your tube to get to the top. There is a conveyor belt that takes you up automatically!

IMG_0949

IMG_0919

After doing a few coasters, we had lunch… mmm burgers!
IMG_0963

Then it was time for Irving to try the leap of faith!! This is a huge freefall slide that ends inside a shark tank (protected by acrylic). It was made popular in a season of “The Amazing Race”. A girl was too afraid to go down and it they got eliminated because of it! I did the slide in the Bahamas, but I was too chicken to go down again here. Irving was brave and went straight down!
IMG_0999

A closer look:
IMG_0999

Then we did a little more of the lazy river, this time we tried the rapids!
IMG_1004

We did a few more slides and then ended the day swimming again in the Gulf. Behind Irving is the famous Burj Hotel (the world’s only 7-star hotel…the one Tiger Woods hit the golf ball off of).
IMG_1023

As the sun set, we could see the Burj Khalifa in the background. the sun was hitting the windows and all you could see was the sun’s reflection!
IMG_1014

After that, we spent an hour or so in the “Lost Chambers”. This is the aquarium in Atlantis that is set up like a giant ship wreck. They have a decent collection of strange fish.
IMG_0800

These guys were HUGE! Almost as big as me!
IMG_0847

By the end, we were fried and headed back to our hotel. Another fabulous day in Dubai.
