We spent our last day in the bay area surrounded by family who couldn’t get enough of Miss Adele.

Jake and Janie met up with us too!

We continued the game of ‘Pass the Baby’ all afternoon!

I think we tuckered the baby out!

Sleep, little one!

What an amazing weekend. We all had such a nice time. (And yes, I will be framing this photo!)

The drive back to LA was perfect. Adele slept for 3 hours… woke up to eat…. and slept for another 3 hours til we got home!…. and then continued to sleep 8 hours straight overnight. LOVE that girl!

There is nothing like burying your toes into the lushest, thickest, softest grass you’ve ever seen. It really is the littlest things in life that make me smile. I took a moment then to appreciate all the beautiful things in my life at the moment.
IMG_5128

Exhibit A: Baby sleeping under the shade of a tree. Perfection.
IMG_5129

And next to said sleeping baby… a doting great-grandmother gazing lovingly on.
IMG_5130

And as if that isn’t enough…. How  about adding in the world’s cutest bonnet? (YAY! She likes it!)
DSCN1214

Yes, it is the littlest things that make me smile nowadays. I just feel SO lucky!

Four Generations August 14, 2012

On Friday, Irving, Adele, EJ, Sarah and I piled into our minivan and headed six hours north to San Francisco for the weekend. It was a surprisingly easy trip! (Yes, for those of you who are counting, that is Adele’s forth weekend getaway in 9 weeks!) But it was worth the trip to have Irving’s whole family together at his mom’s house.
IMG_5070

It was extra special because it was the first time Adele got to meet her Great Grandmother, Nini!

EJ and Sarah got Adele this super cute baby bonnet. Despite the tears, she loves it! Promise!

Aunty had to show her how fun it was to wear a hat.

Adele Meets her Aunties! August 13, 2012

This week, Adele got to finally meet her Aunties, Sarah and EJ! Of course, it was love at first hug.
DSCN1124

It was so nice having them visit. And Adele loved that there were twice as many arms to rock her to sleep. haha

DSCN1122

We knew they wanted to have maximum snuggle time at home with her, so we didn’t do too much. But on Wednesday, we ventured downtown to explore for a little bit. Adele has a new habit of screaming in the car lately. I think she just doesn’t like sitting by herself (who would, right?) But the white noise app on my cell phone seems to do the trick everytime. It’s starting already… my daughter is already hogging my phone!
DSCN1105

Of course, she fell asleep soon after, so we snapped her into the stroller and walked around downtown LA.
DSCN1113

First stop: The NBC Olympic Village. (I miss the Olympics already!)

Adele gets the Bronze because she’s so little. haha

Our wanderings led us to the LA Public Library. (Side note: I think it’s one of the best kept secrets in LA. It’s awesome! So many cool things to see inside. They even have a flyer in the lobby you can pick up so you can do a self-guided tour. Worth a visit if you live local!)
DSCN1114

We just happened to arrive during the Baby Story Hour!! Adele loved it! I can’t wait to take her to things like this in the future. I hope she loves books someday!
DSCN1115

After that, we headed back outside to have lunch at Bottega Louie! EJ and Sarah remembered it from my blog a while back and requested to eat there as well! We were happy to oblige!
DSCN1119

It was another great meal. Worth the wait and the price. Such a unique restaurant.
DSCN1121

[insert a lazy afternoon at home]

And for dinner, we walked over to a local burger joint. EJ would like to point out her fine babysitting skills. Baby in one hand… beer in another. #winning
DSCN1126

Just kidding. She was actually the token baby whisperer this weekend. She rocked, danced and fed Adele with all the love that only an Aunty can give. So sweet.
DSCN1144

If you can get her to go to sleep that quick…. come visit any time! =)

And just for fun… cute shot of the day:

Those are some big trees… August 7, 2012

On Friday morning, Irving went out to golf with the groom and his friends at the Wawona Golf Course. So Grandma Julie, Adele and I took the shuttle bus to the Mariposa Grove to see the giant Sequoia trees! I was giddy with excitement!
IMG_4739

I strapped the sleepy baby to me in the carrier and did my best to keep her out of the shade. The Mariposa Grove has an upper and a lower section. We just did the short .8 mile trail (1.6 miles total).
IMG_4741

Adele slept through the whole hike! But I narrated along the way: “Look at that big tree! Did you see the squirrel? etc..” She loved it, obviously!
IMG_4745

I seriously waited my whole life to have a kid that I could take to parks like this and explore the great outdoors. I always loved nature walks and learning about the animals and the history of places. I’m so excited that the time is finally here! I feel like my life is just beginning since I get to experience all this cool stuff all over again with Adele.
IMG_4744

The Sequoias were beautiful. We took a tour led by a park ranger to learn about where they came from, how they grow and how the park protects them.
IMG_4740

The roots of these giants are only 2-4 feet deep! Isn’t that crazy! Here is a picture of the roots of a tree that fell in the 1800s! (Fun Fact: Sequoias have a chemical in them that makes them nearly impossible to decay! They will eventually, but it takes decades longer than a normal tree!)

IMG_4751

IMG_4749 IMG_4753

Why, hello there, big tree!
IMG_4754

I was laughing to myself that maybe someday when we take Adele back here, she might whine and complain, “But mom, why did we have to come all the way out here on vacation to just see some big treeeees?” Hopefully she’ll learn to appreciate them for what they are! And if all else fails, at least they sell ice cream in the gift shop, right? LOL
IMG_4755

Also spotted on our walk… a Deer! (Actually a few deer, but this is the only one I snapped a picture of!) Thankfully we didn’t see any bears.
IMG_4757-001

Living in LA, it really is something special to stand at the base of so many gorgeous trees reaching towards the sun.
IMG_4756

Finally we reached our destination: a Sequoia named The Grizzly Giant. It’s one of the biggest trees in the world.
IMG_4763IMG_4764

The branches on that bad boy were as big as regular trees!
IMG_4766

Adele did great on our hike. When we got back, she was nice and hungry and I fed her on the Adirondack chairs on our porch. IMG_4770

Then it was time for some playtime and a nap. Grandma took over and I actually went down to the restaurant and dined by myself on the patio. It was awesome! Can’t remember the last time I could enjoy a meal out by myself! It was so nice! (They even served me Pink Lemonade… on the house! Score!)
IMG_4769

It was such a perfect day. So far, one of my favorite weekend getaways to date!

(Stay tuned for two more posts Yosemite themed posts this week!)
