A Year to be Thankful for… November 25, 2010

As I get older, I am trying to live more in the present and appreciate all the little gifts life has to offer. But Thanksgiving is the time to be especially appreciative of all the good things there are in the world.

In no particular order, here’s a list of things I’m thankful for this year:

  • My Husband! I fall more and more in love with him everyday. We’ve been married for 1.5 years and I still feel like a newlywed around him. I love giggling, exploring and thinking with him. He’s smart, handsome and fun.

  • My Knees! As they say in the “Everybody should wear sunscreen” song: Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone! I had a year of uninjured running, and for that, I’m extremely grateful. My knees carried me across the Boston Marathon finish line this year. One of the proudest moments of my life. Thank you knees!

  • Babies! All three of my bridesmaids had babies or got pregnant this year! It’s the most amazing thing to see your childhood friends become parents. I love my little Harper and baby boy Hudson! (And Baby Cheerio on the way!)
  • Family! Living 3,000 miles away from your family is tough! But I was so thankful that I got to go home four times this year!

  • Travel! We will never take our ability to travel for granted. We are so lucky that we both enjoy seeing new places and exploring new cities together. Half the fun is planning our adventures, I don’t think it will ever get old.

  • My Health! Enough said!

And some not so serious things I’m thankful for!!

  • Keurig Coffee Machines
  • Dunkin Donuts Coffee from Target
  • Netflix
  • Tetris
  • Rain in Los Angeles
  • Skype
  • Having my friends live so close!

What are YOU thankful for?

The past couple of nights have been filled with friends and laughter. I’m so thankful I have such great friends so close by.

Thursday night, Erika came over and we played a game of Life!

Erika did a fabulous job of playing ‘banker’. haha

Ultimately, I won, but she did end up with a sweet tree house at the end. (Have you played this new ‘Extreme Life’? It’s pretty funny).

HOUSE PARTY

Last night, I hosted my second ‘House Party’ event. The first one was for Febreze back in the summer.

This time, the party was provided by Jolee Jewelry!

In Anticipation of Christmas! November 16, 2010

Whew! That was two full weeks of travel, exploring and adventure, but I am definitely happy to be home. Here’s a round up of what we’ve been doing since we got back.

This week, Irving and I geared up for our annual Christmas present game (we like games). A few years back, I came up with an idea to make Christmas shopping more fun and meaningful. We came up with about 100 adjectives (things like ‘Something Red’, ‘Starts with an R’, ‘Batteries not included’, etc.) And we put each thing in a bag and randomly pull out five cards. Then we have to buy gifts using three of the five cards for the other person.

This year, we flipped a coin (from Dubai) to find out who got to pick first…

Ready for the coin toss..

Tails! I go first!
IMG_1982

Have to make sure you pick a good one!
IMG_1983

Yes! That one is a winner! (But the cards are top secret, so I can’t reveal to you just yet which ones I picked since Irving reads the blog!)
IMG_1985

Irving’s turn…
IMG_1986

I think I got good ones… stay tuned after Christmas to see how it all turned out!
IMG_1987

On Sunday, I went over to see Ashley’s new baby, Hudson! He’s adorable, I can’t believe he’s here!

Then Erika and Timmy and Irving and I went to Honey Kettle for lunch.

Dipping sauces required.

Last night, my friend Janet came over to teach me how to make real tea. I picked up this amazing tea from the Dubai Spice Market and I was dying to brew a cup.

IMG_1995

We heated up the water in my Keurig machine…
IMG_1997

And Janet brought her teapot to share.
IMG_1996

It was a DELICIOUS cup of tea! (Thanks Janet!)
IMG_1998

Tonight, Irving and I made grilled chicken sandwiches!
IMG_2009

With all the fixins’.
IMG_2002

Mmm Steamed Veggies! I was CRAVING these!
IMG_2008

We dined next to the beautiful flowers Irving bought for me this weekend!
IMG_2005

We’re also loving these alabaster tea light holders we got in Cairo. They are so pretty when they glow.

Whew, that was a long one! Stay tuned this week for another round of the Arabian Contest!

The Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese October 27, 2010

Did I ever tell you about the time that Irving and I drove down to Venice Beach to see the ‘Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese’?
IMG_1307

Yea funny story actually. Back in 2005 (before we had real jobs), we heard the grilled cheese was on display. And there it was!
IMG_1306

I have to say, it actually does look like a woman. My favorite part is the bite taken out of the side. haha

IMG_1308

And then Andy Dick walked by….

IMG_1310

Yea, that was a weird day.
