Challah = Holla! March 22, 2011

For some reason, whenever anyone says ‘Challah’, I always want to yell “Holla!”

Irving and I had a lunchtime date at Costco today. Oh, the life of the adult, huh? We picked up a lovely loaf of Challah, and I just think it looks so pretty!
IMG_4836

This gorgeous bottle of Moscato also ended up in my cart. I don’t know how it happened!

It’s from Israel! My Jewish mother-in-law would be proud. I can’t wait to open this up. A bottle of red wine will stay half full in our house for a couple of weeks. But Moscato, Ice Wine or Chardonnay? 2 days, flat! We’re total wine-o’s. (hahaha, that’s not really true, but I do love really sweet wine!)

I went out on a 3-mile walk after work tonight. I love how clear the sky is after the rain in Los Angeles. On the way out I grabbed a Hunk-O-Challah! I kept chanting that in my head “hunk o’ challah, hunk o’challah”.

I chatted with my sister for the entire three miles. She just finished up another semester of grad school. GO, LAURIE!

Angry Clouds March 21, 2011

Filed under: Happy — Kelocity @ 1:39 pm

According to the National Weather Service, Downtown Los Angeles received record rainfall with 2.42 inches of rain, breaking the 1943 record of 1.48 inches for March 20.

That’s a lot of rain. It looks like Armageddon out my window today. Those are some angry clouds!

I think LA is pretty during the rainy season. Lush, green and alive. I’m sure all the bushes will be turning brown and dead soon enough when the temps hit 100*+, but for now, I’m enjoying my rain.

I really wish I had a great pair of rainboots to puddle jump in.

Saturday night, Kaitlin hosted an LA Blogger meetup at her place and it was pretty awesome.

IMG_4672

The group included Kaitlin, Amanda and Andy, Katherine, and Melissa .

And in true Blogger Fashion, the food was amazing.

IMG_4669IMG_4678

We had a make your own pizza concept, with no topping spared!

IMG_4684 IMG_4685

Katherine is a pro and taught us all how to properly stretch out the dough (the key is to keep adding flour)!

IMG_4687

And spreading olive oil on the dough before the sauce and toppings makes it crunchy! YUM!

IMG_4697

IMG_4698 IMG_4701

We made four mini pizzas to share. They were all gorgeous. I love when food looks like art.

IMG_4736

I love cheese. Lots of cheese… and garlic. MMm!
IMG_4719

I put the Broccoli on this bad boy. I just bring so much talent to the foodie world.IMG_4748

IMG_4747

Served with a really good salad (and Newman’s Own Dressing of course!)

IMG_4742

Blogger friends –> Real friends! You won’t meet a nicer bunch of people.

IMG_4745

Melissa made dessert. Peanut Butter Chocolate chip cookies, and a peanut butter coffee cake!

IMG_4755

I’m not a big Harry Potter fanatic, but if you hang out with these guys long enough, you’ll become one through osmosis. lol

IMG_4769

We also watched the Rebecca Black music video Friday a few times. You should watch it. It’s addicting.IMG_4782

Such a fun night, great food and new friends.

Thanks for hosting, Kaitlin!IMG_4772

Soaked to the Core

Irving and I had all kinds of Sunday plans. We had a to-do list (of course) of fun stuff and some chores stuff. But all of it got de-railed by the rain. We used to always make fun of Los Angeles residents who cancel their plans when it rains (it’s just rain, guys!) But this weekend, we totally became those people.

IMG_4806

We scrapped our plans to attend the LA Travel Expo and spent the day in our office rewiring, rearranging and cleaning up our electronics. We’re such nerds, you have no idea. Irving even vacuumed the inside of my computer. If that’s not the dorkiest thing you’ve ever heard, what is? haha

IMG_4797

All that geek stuff worked up an appetite and I enthusiastically tore open these new gems from Trader Joes. Dark Chocolate. Vanilla. Caramels.

Irving exclaimed “it’s like three of your favorite things all together!” Yes, husband, you are correct. They were awesome.

IMG_4801

Later, we headed down to the South Bay to go see the LA Galaxy home opener game. They were playing the New England Revolution and it’s sort of become a tradition to see the two teams play!
IMG_4821

It was POURING out though, they gave everyone ponchos, but just running from the car to the stadium left me soaked to the core. The poncho was no match for the weather today!
IMG_4807

Oh well, we made the most of it, and it actually ended up being a really great game.IMG_4808

IMG_4813

Irving listens to the broadcasts and hears all the stats and commentary…
2011-03-20_17-22-16_624

And I spent the entire 90 minutes trying to get a good picture of David Beckham (Priorities!)IMG_4816IMG_4818IMG_4819

In the end, we tied 1-1.
IMG_4824

Then it was time to brave the rain again to trek back to the car. My jeans were soaked to the thigh by the time we got there. Gross.
IMG_4829
PS… why are my eyes two different sizes there?

Even though we were soaked, my uncle was in town and wanted to go out and do something fun.
IMG_4834

We ended up having dinner at BJs Brewery and it was awesome. I had a great soup/salad combo, but I was totally saving room for the main event: The Pazooki!IMG_4832

A half-cooked cookie, served warm, with vanilla bean ice cream. Twas’ delightful!
IMG_4833

A perfect way to end a rainy weekend. Happy Monday everyone!

Cabbage Soup March 20, 2011

With all this talk of St. Patty’s Day cabbage lately, I realized I was craving it! On a whim, I picked up this from the grocery store this week.
IMG_4546

Irish Stew Mix! I had no idea what to do with it, but it looked good, so I bought it.
IMG_4550

I googled recipes for “Cabbage Soup” and found this one from All Recipes. It only took about 30 minutes to make, and it was totally worth it.

IMG_4556

We ate al fresco. Nothing like a warm soup on a chilly day!
IMG_4552

On the side, I made some biscuits. It just seemed right.
IMG_4554

Topped with a little bit of dill. I will definitely be saving this recipe!
