Last night, Erika and Timmy hosted a Holiday Party to celebrate the Holidays. They really went all out preparing the food for the party.

IMG_2287

The highlight was her Calzones! She made the bread from scratch! Delicous!
IMG_2289

IMG_2292 IMG_2293 IMG_2291

It was such a great night. They have some great friends and we really enjoyed the conversation.
IMG_2295

Muggles was brave all night and hung out with everyone. (Good job, Muggles!)
IMG_2296

And little Abby made an appearance too! She was so cute!
IMG_2311

After spending an hour trying to figure out how to work the controllers, we played a few fun games of Trivia with everyone!
IMG_2301

Then it was time for the Yankee Swap! (Apparantly they don’t call it that out here! Maybe it’s an east coast thing?)
IMG_2298

They were all awesome gifts! I had the second number…
IMG_2305

And I got a sweet game of Travel Scattegories! (Thankfully no one stole from me, because I was pretty excited about this!)
IMG_2309

It was a great night, we had so much fun! Thanks for having us over!

It’s Snowing in Los Angeles! December 4, 2010

Yes, indeed, it was snowing in Los Angeles tonight!
IMG_2279

Even if it was fake snow blowing from the roof of a building, that still counts, right?
IMG_2278

IMG_2276

Tonight was the neighborhood Holiday Open House where all the stores and restaurants offer free samples and discounts. It’s so fun!

IMG_2271

This year, Erika and Timmy came with us, so it was even more fun!
(Check out the “snow” in my hair!)
IMG_2280 IMG_2281

We pretty much went on the ‘Soup Tour’ up and down the street! We had vegetable soup, stew, tomato soup, squash soup! And lots of zucchini bread, hot cocoa and cookies in between.
IMG_2283

As we were walking, we saw James Marsden walk by with his family!! We totally did a double take and spun around for another look. I used to love him on Second Noah! Remember that show?

And right before that, we saw George Barris! (I realize he’s not a household name, but in my house, he totally was!) He’s my dad’s car building role model!
IMG_2270

He built so many famous cars from the movies.

Then our friend Erica came by and we chatted by the Christmas tree until after midnight! So nice to be surrounded by great friends in a great city. I love this town.

Christmas Tree Time!! December 3, 2010

First of all, I can’t believe that it’s already December. Where did the year go! Regardless, I’m super excited, I love this time of year, especially in Los Angeles. It gets just cold enough to feel like Christmas, but still warm enough that you don’t need a coat.

This year, we went to get our tree at Home Depot (can’t beat the price and the convenience!)
IMG00010-20101201-2019

For some reason, I started to feel a little emotional buying our tree. I just feel so lucky that we are able to afford the tree we want to get. We are so fortunate that we don’t have to choose between a tree or food on the table like so many Americans. The tree is a constant reminder to us to remember what’s really important in life, I am so lucky to have Irving and two great families to celebrate the holidays with.

We brought it home and gave her a new home in the dining room.
IMG_2239

We let it settle and open up and we watched an episode of Weeds. And then we dragged out all the ornaments!
IMG_2245

IMG_2246

We put up two strands of lights and watched her glow.
IMG_2248

We were so tired at that point that we went to bed (GASP! Without putting the ornaments on!)

So today, we woke up at 5:30a and decorated her before work. Smile Much better!
IMG_2257

We always buy a Christmas ornament from every place we travel to.
This year’s new additions:

Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
IMG_2258

Dubai, UAE (It’s ‘gold’ and it’s a camel. how perfect is that?)
IMG_2259

Cairo, Egypt (which was actually really hard to find!)
IMG_2268

And I know this sounds really bad, but I think I got this last year for Christmas and I really really really love this ornament….  does anyone know who gave this to me? I want to write it on the box!
IMG_2262

The rest of the house got decorated as well!

Who says Sunflowers aren’t Christmasy?
IMG_2255

I’ll get a picture of us in front of the tree this week to post. Now it’s time to get shopping!

Wow… today UPS came not only to drop off ONE present… but TWO! We’ve been on an ordering frenzy lately! Tis the Season I guess!

The first package was our order from Omaha Steaks!
IMG_2219

We like to order from them once a year. It’s enough meat to last us at least four months. Crazy!
IMG_2221

Wow, that’s a lot of meat!
IMG_2231

Somehow, we managed to fit it all inside the freezer!
IMG_2234

All this meat is in addition to three pounds of ground beef, four chicken cutlets, frozen chicken nuggets, a rack of ribs from Costco and this six pound prime rib Irving bought from Harris Ranch! Crazy, right?
IMG_2235

And then we got our giant box of K-Cup coffees for our Keurig!
IMG_2226

We now have 28 flavors in our cupboards… this too should last about four months! I feel like Starbucks. Ha!
IMG_2227

They even shipped a little present in there… Spicy Eggnog Coffee
(Irving, you can have it, that actually sounds kind of gross).
IMG_2229

And they also included a roll of Smarties in the box (which I think might have been an accident?! Random!
IMG_2223

And to top off all the great mail today… I got the postcard I mailed myself from Egypt!
IMG_2232

Here’s what I wrote to us:

Hi Kelley and Irving,
Right now, you are aboard a ship that is floating down the Nile River in Egypt. You are having the time of your life and you know how lucky you are to be exploring Egypt so young. It is a tough country to visit, but definitely worth it. You rode camels, went inside the second pyramid, saw the sphinx, flew to Abu Simbel, learned hieroglyphics, rode an overnight train to Aswan and had an amazing time doing all of it. We were so nervous about traveling here, but it will be remembered as an incredible experience. Keep Traveling! The world is your oyster!

That is good advice for myself, right?

Dinner on Monday included Thanksgiving Dinner Round II!

IMG_2238

Because once just isn’t enough. lol
IMG_2237

PS… SO excited Christmas music is on the radio now. I’ve been listening for two weeks and I love it. The music paired with our 35* weather right now, and I’m definitely in the Christmas Spirit. We’re getting our tree this week!! Woot!

Earthquake Country!

Sunday, we all wanted to get outside and get some fresh air!
IMG_2164

We gathered up the family and headed out on a 1.5 hour road trip to Point Reyes.
IMG_2168

What a good lookin’ bunch, yes?

IMG_2176

The drive up north was great, so much to look at. This is San Quentin prison! Yikes!
IMG_2177

We finally got up to our destination!
IMG_2180

Welcome to Earthquake Trail!
IMG_2182

This was a half mile educational loop filled with all kinds of info about how Earthquakes work. (All of us nerds loved it!)

EJ proclaimed: “Take a picture of this sign and we can read it later”. lol
IMG_2183

The hike itself was more of a stroll, but it was nice.

IMG_2185

IMG_2189

IMG_2191

IMG_2192

IMG_2193

And then we found this!

IMG_2195

Those blue posts mark the San Andreas fault!
IMG_2197

All I kept thinking of was Land of the Lost when they fall into the earthquake crack. LOL
IMG_2201

The best part was seeing this fence. This was once connected, but in the early 1900s, the plates moved 12 feet in less than a minute!
IMG_2200

Here is all four of us demonstrating how far apart the plates moved!
Point Reyes 2010 004

After our geography lesson, we headed over to a history lesson!
IMG_2202

They have an old Indian Village that has been restored to it’s original form.
IMG_2203

This used to be how they lived!
IMG_2206

And they had Teepees too!
IMG_2207

Then we went inside the “Sweat Room” (not quite sure what that was for. lol)
IMG_2210  IMG_2211

EJ running out of the Sweat Room. HAHA
IMG_2212

Then for some reason, I decided to jog back to the car.
IMG_2214 IMG_2215 IMG_2216

IMG_2218

It was a fun way to spend the day.
IMG_2205

So much of this great state to explore still.
