Adele is air borne again. I have to look back to confirm, but i think this was her 15th flight. This time, the destination was Indianapolis to visit her grandma and aunties. I flew with her alone and i was admittedly a little nervous. The older and more mobile she gets, the more being confined in a seat for 4 hours with her scares me.

I got to the airport early and actually saw my college roommate in the terminal. We chatted and hit up starbucks together. Then adele fell asleep in the carrier while we waited to board. I hadnt realized it, but i looked at my watch and realized our departure time had passed. I only had 20 minutes to make my connection in Houston to begin with…enter panic. I talked to the gate agent who agreed to put me up in a hotel in houston if i missed the second leg. Adele and i love adventure so we boarded anyways and hoped for the best.

The flight was pretty quick. We passed the time with snacks, the tea tin, books and toys. People were commenting on what a good baby she was…then 3/4 thru the flight was “The Great Apple Juice Disaster of flight 286”. The lady next to me fell asleep with her tray table down…and her full glass of apple juice on top. Before i even realized what was happening, Adele swooped in and threw her table up and the drink came crashing down. Ahhhh! I apologized profusely and offered to buy her something stronger (!) But she was so nice and declined. Oy vey.

Once we landed, i strapped Adele into the carrier and ran (I mean RAN) to our next flight only to find out it too was delayed so we were fine (even early). Whew. I bought adele some milk in the meantime. When we boarded, i headed straight to the back of the plane and scored one of only two empty seats next to me. Yessss. Anyone who has flown with kids understands this is life changing.

She did great on the second leg too. She played peekaboo with the kind people across the aisle, she played games on the kindle and read books. (One of her books has a picture of a banana in it and she sees it and squeals “NANA” when she sees it!)

When we landed, we had two very excited aunties waiting for hugs. And grandma was anxiously waiting at home for us too. So far, it has been a great week. I will be back soon with a full recap and LOTS of pictures. we are all having a blast!

There’s Ice Cream in my Cake! August 20, 2013

This weekend, we celebrated my big 3-0. Irving surprised me by picking up take-out from Mozza (it’s been on my LA Foodie bucket list for a while!) The picnic pack came with two pizzas, dessert and a bottle of wine. Sounds like a party to me!

We took our dinner to our favorite park and enjoyed our birthday meal under a shady tree.

We tried to conceal our ‘open container of alcohol’ behind the stroller. Shhh! We’re such rebels!
IMG_0077PS: Thanks for the cool picnic wine holders mom and dad!

The pizza was ah-mazing. Adele even ate a whole slice of mine! Considering she doesn’t really eat anything anymore, that was quite the compliment to Mozza!

I was in the middle of taking self portraits….

….and looked over and saw Adele getting into trouble. HAHA
IMG_0103

But don’t worry, that bottle was long gone by the time that picture was taken. Prosecco. Mmmm.
IMG_0105

The dessert was a decadent Butterscotch pudding with Sea Salt and whipped cream. MMmm. Pretty much the best picnic ever. I am one lucky girl.

But that’s not all! Irving also surprised me with a cake, and we decided to save it for the following night. Check. It. Out.

Let me set this up for you…. Baskin Robbins Ice Cream cake…. with cake on the bottom and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream inside…. and three scoops of icecream in little cones on top (Snickers, Peanut Butter Cup and Salted Oreo). Yep. Are you kidding? Nope, not kidding.
IMG_0135

I think Adele was pretty bummed it wasn’t her birthday. Look at that face!

IMG_0145

Dude, she is like SO jealous of me right now.
IMG_0148

But then I let her eat the first ice cream cone off the top and she got over it real fast.

And if you’re wondering, she picked the Snickers one. Good choice Adele.

I think my 30s are going to be pretty awesome because with a cake like that, how can they not be?!

We’ve had a rough couple of weeks here in the Kelocity house lately. Although I’d like you all to believe that our lives are nothing but LA sunshine, I assure you that life can get a little cloudy here too. Three weekends ago, Adele came down with the typical daycare cold. Then it got passed to me… and turned into Bronchitis. Right when Adele was starting to feel better, Irving caught the cold as well. And this weekend, Adele got version 2.0 of it and was sick all over again!

When you have a house full of sickies, everything just feels harder than it needs to be. It was one of those weeks when the ceiling lightbulb would go out and no one had time to change it. We needed some batteries and none could be found. The propane tank on our grill ran out half way through cooking our dinner. The smoke alarm is going off because you then have to finish cooking that dinner inside on the stove….you get the idea. We are beat.

It’s never fun taking care of a sick baby. All those dripping noses and whiny afternoons. It’s tough. But then there are those parts that make it not so bad. Adele gets more cuddly. She wants hugs, she wants to snuggle, she gets deliriously silly because she’s overtired and we both get the giggles.

Last night, Adele woke up crying around 2am. I let a few minutes go by before dragging myself out of bed to see what was up. She was standing in the crib, eager to let me pick her up. I snuggled her on my chest for a few minutes and then put her on the couch next to me. She looked at me with the biggest smile on her face…. and she clapped. Enthusiastically. It was pretty special because it’s not every day you get a standing ovation for being a mom.

In that moment there was no place else I’d rather be. My girl needed me. I gave her some milk, we played with pillows for a little bit and I let her stay up a few minutes longer than I might have normally. I watched her in the dark as she played with the window curtains and I was in awe at how big she’s getting.

Whether it’s because she doesn’t feel well, can’t sleep, wants to talk or needs a ride home from a high school college party, I will always be there for her at 2am.

Pillow Island August 18, 2013

Adele was on a nap strike last weekend. She took two long and impressive naps the Friday before, but come Saturday and Sunday, we were lucky to squeeze 40 minutes out of her….if that. So in a last ditch effort to get some quiet time in, I dragged pillows and stuffed animals from all over the house into the living room and we relaxed on the floor together.

Irving came in and said, “Oh, are you having a sleepover in the pillow fort?” I corrected him by telling him it was actually Pillow Island. Get it right.

IMG_9981

I think Adele thought it was pretty cool. Wait til I show her how to make a real fort with blankets and kitchen chairs. I can’t wait.

What’s Cookin’ Dad? August 17, 2013

Whenever Irving is outside grilling, Adele patiently waits for him to come back inside.

And by ‘patiently’, I mean she bangs on the door and yells for him to come back inside.

Now that she’s more vertical, I’m loving dresses on her lately! So cute!
