10 Years Ago… February 14, 2013

Filed under: Love — Kelocity @ 3:59 am

10 years ago today, I was living in a town near Amsterdam.

10 years ago today, I was studying culture, history and art in a 14th century castle.

10 years ago today, I had an almost-blank passport, a Eurail Pass, a backpack and a dream to travel around Europe.

10 years ago today, I was one month into my semester abroad and missing my new-ish boyfriend like crazy. I was in Paris. It was raining. My class took a bus from The Netherlands to Paris for a weekend excursion. We watched episodes of Friends the whole way down. When we got off the bus, we checked into our hotel. And I got the surprise of my life. It was February 14, 2003.

10 years ago today, Irving flew to Paris to surprise me. He waited for me in the hotel lobby. Holding a rose. On Valentine’s Day.

10 years ago today, I knew that I would marry Irving. I am smart enough to know that you don’t let a guy like that go.

10 years ago today, Irving and I walked hand in hand visiting the Louvre, Versailles, The Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame. We sparked a love of travel that has been a force of nature ever since. We had 48 hours together in the most romantic city in the world. It will forever be one of the best weekends of my life.

I have less than 20 photos from that entire weekend (one roll of film a week was all I had!) But the memories are so vivid. I’ll never forgot the way he picked me up and spun me around in that hotel lobby full of Emerson students. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

Happy Valentine’s Day, babe. I love you more and more every day. Cheers to travel. Cheers to love. Cheers to us and a love that gets stronger every year. ❤

Fit Mamas February 13, 2013

Filed under: Baby — Kelocity @ 3:54 am

Last Saturday, the East Coast was getting pounded with 3 feet of snow…. but out here in LA, the skies were clear and blue! Perfect day for a hike!! Adele loved seeing her friend too! We all had a blast!
2013-02-09_13-28-37_760

The fresh air was good for all of us! Love that magical breeze that can zonk a baby out in 10 minutes flat. She went from full-on babbling to asleep in no time at all. hah!

Excited for more “fit mama” play dates again soon!

A couple of weeks ago, I saw that one of my favorite bloggers was doing a book event at my local Baby Gap! She was there reading Peter Rabbit in support of Gap’s new line of adorable baby clothes. I was so excited and I begged Irving to let us change our weekend plans to go and it ended up being awesome! The store had quite the reception for their littlest guests.

Adele sat quiet during the whole book. I think she loved watching all the other kids running around.

And um, these bunny ears get me ridiculously excited for Easter this year! Hop Hop!

Adele: Month Eight February 9, 2013

Filed under: Baby — Kelocity @ 12:14 am

Didn’t I just write my 7 month post? I feel like not too much really changed between month 7 and 8. It was a great month. Adele continues to amaze us with her even temperament, happy disposition and fierce determination to do more. She’s such a good baby.
IMG_9780

Her stats are pretty much the same as last month. I’m not sure on her height or weight though.

Weight = Guessing about 17 pounds?
Diapers = Size 2
Clothes = 9 Months (and a few 6 months still<–mostly because I’m still in denial)
Eyes = Currently they are Hazel
Teeth = Still none! And no sign of any popping through either! Should I be worried? Maybe she’ll save us the cost of braces someday if she never gets teeth!

SLEEP
Yep. Still going strong on the 12-13 hour a night train. I know you’re sick of hearing that. Frankly, after each month goes by without regression I pinch myself. I’m still shocked. And I’m not complaining. We know how lucky we are and I am so so so so so thankful. We have officially been blessed with the worlds-greatest-sleeping-baby.

Same routine. I lay her in her crib at 7:30p and she rolls over falls asleep on her own. Then she stays aslseep til 8am the next morning. Every. Single. Night. I don’t know how she does it. Baby just loves her sleep I guess!

She flip flops between two nap routines at daycare: a.) 10a nap and 3:30p nap or b.) 1p nap only. On the weekends, she’s still doing two naps a day, although sometimes they’re short car-ride-induced snoozes.

FOOD
We’re still doing a mix of baby-led-weaning and purees. Purees for lunch at daycare and real food for breakfast and dinner.

PUREES:
I’m making all of her purees myself from scratch. Sweet potatoes, mango/banana, peas, carrots, apples… I get all my homemade babyfood tips from this website. I make and prepare a whole weeks worth of food on Sundays and store them in these containers and these containers. I send her with 1oz of vegetables and 1oz of fruit a day for lunch.

REAL FOOD:
For breakfast and dinner, I give her bite sized pieces of whatever I have on hand. Breakfast is usually cheerios and banana or mango. Sometimes applesauce too. Dinner is a mix of things. Usually a tasting platter of a few things. I try to mix grains, veggies and fruits.

She’s tried SO many different foods already. She loves avocado, banana, parsnips, carrots, crackers, bread, cheese, pasta, cheerios, sweet potato, chicken, blueberries, mangos, pickles, tomatoes, bites of pizza, etc. There isn’t anything she’s tried that she hasn’t liked yet.

MILK
She’s 100% on formula as of January 27th. She doesn’t seem to notice or care that I’m not nursing her anymore. She tried to root once after I stopped, but other than that, she seems perfectly content with her formula. It took me about three days to get over being sad about ending breastfeeding, but I’m fine now. I don’t miss it as much as I thought I would. There are so many other awesome things about being a mom that I’m excited about now.
IMG_9730
And actually, as of tomorrow, she’s no longer drinking out of a bottle either! We dabbled in the sippy cup world last week and the verdict is out. She loves it. At the recommendation of friends, we went with the Nuk Learner Cups and so far so good! We have 7 of them now so starting tomorrow we’ll be nixing bottles all together. That was easy.

IMG_9851

SITTING
She’s been sitting up for months now, but just a couple of weeks ago, she started getting herself into the sitting position all by herself! She’ll crawl to something, grab it, and then sit up to play with it! Sounds so simple, but it’s pretty amazing to watch. I can’t believe at how fast she learns.

IMG_9823
CRAWLING

She’s crawling. And she’s fast!
IMG_9748

IMG_9756

She loves to follow me around the house now. I go about my business and she’s at my heels moving from room to room. I love hearing the pitter patter of her hands as they sneak up on me in various places. I love to see her peek around corners once she finds me too. It’s adorable.

IMG_9824

In fact, people keep asking me why I haven’t updated the “Lamb Pictures” to compare sizes….
IMG_9827

Well… this is what happens when I lay her down to take pictures now….
IMG_9832
IMG_9833

Yep. Why sit still when you can mooooove?
IMG_9835

TOYS
She still loves anything with a string or a tag. Like loooooves it. The bigger the tag the better. Irving lets her hold the mail sometimes and she thinks that’s the greatest thing ever. But she also loves her Fisher-Price Disney Baby Amazing Animals Sing-Along Choo-Choo.
IMG_9821

We’re looking into getting her an activity table to play with now. Any suggestions?

STANDING!
She now LOVES to stand up! She’s always had strong legs, but now she will actually do it if you hold her hands!
IMG_9794
IMG_9799

Um, I’m not ready for this!!
IMG_9802Ok, the Tutus and Leggings I’m totally ready for…. but not the standing part. Go back to being a baby, crazy girl. (And yes, I got her to stand there by distracting her with the tag on that blanket there. I’m so sneaky).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So yea, Month Eight. You rocked. We’ve got a chatty, happy baby who makes us smile all day long. Can’t really ask for anything more!
PS. It’s not easy to get a newly-mobile baby to stay still! I wish I had a video camera to tape all my crazy antics to get her to stay put! She almost fell off the couch TWICE during this photoshoot (don’t tell Irving) and after each take, this is what I was dealing with:
Mid-Week Brain Dump! February 6, 2013
Filed under: Baby,Random — Kelocity @ 10:08 pm
Here we go! A Mid-Week Brain Dump! Don’t mind me!
  • Kelocity.com has reached 1,000 posts on wordpress! I’ve been blogging in one way or another since 2003! I don’t even think the word ‘blog’ existed back when I started an online diary. I started in college using basic HTML, then I started a LiveJournal account. After that, I used FrontPage to build my own website and in 2009, I migrated to the WordPress platform! Thank you so much to all of you for reading! Blogging has been such a source of happiness for me over the years.
  • Guess what? I bought a new purse! And not just any purse…. an Epiphanie Bag! It’s a really pretty camera bag and I am anxiously waiting for it to arrive in the mail! It’s way more expensive than any purse I’ve ever purchased, but it has dual purpose and I’m super excited about it. No more throwing my Irving’s nice camera into a diaperbag or tossing it into the backseat of the car! Hooray for being responsible (and fashionable!)
  • Remember how I made an index card calendar for Adele? I am writing on them daily so she’ll have a catalog of  each day of her entire life. Anyways, I just looked back and I wrote ‘2012’ on every single one in January. Since Adele was born, I swear I live in a black hole of time. I’m in denial that it’s ‘2013’ already.
  • I’ve been using the same face wash since Freshman Year of College (Clean & Clear, baby!) Still to this day, I get flashbacks of shower shoes and dorm living every time I use it.
  • Adele crawled over and took every book off of her book shelf today. I just stood back and watched her do it because I was so amazed by it. Baby loves her books!
  • Anyone know of any foods that are good (healthier) alternatives to Cheerios? Adele loooooves Cheerios (both for eating and for playing). I toss a bunch  on her high chair tray to keep her busy when I need to cook or something. But maybe there are other slightly healthier options for fun finger foods that don’t have a risk for choking? Am I over thinking this? Are 20 Cheerios a day ok for an 8-month old baby every day?
  • I don’t know about you, but I’m so bummed the Post Office won’t be delivering mail on Saturdays anymore! If I had 15 Billion dollars, I’d save the post office! I love the mail!
  • We got a notice at the Daycare today that the kids are having a Valentine’s Day party and we have to bring Valentine’s for everyone! I just about died. I’ve been waiting my whole life for this! I’m taking this very seriously and I must find the perfect Valentine cards. Challenge accepted.
  • Back when we found out we were having a baby, Irving and I set out on a huge project to go paperless. We worked on it every day for about six months last year. We digitized everything, signed up for online Bill Pay, and digitized and then threw out or sold all of our music CDs. The last piece of this mountain of work is organizing our digital photos. Sounds simple, but I probably have over 500,000+ pictures on my computer. And I’m going through and cleaning up every. single.one of them. One by one. I’m rotating them, doing red-eye correction, deleting the blurry ones and adjusting the contrast. And as if that’s not enough, I’m adjusting the date and time on all of them to be correct and then renaming each individual file so I will know what they are in 50 years (yea yea yea, I know technology will change by then, but we hope to keep up with it as it changes!) So yea, anyways, I’m about 3 weeks away from being done with it all. I’ll share about the process when I’m finished. It’ll be pretty awesome when it’s done.
  • Speaking of doing a huge project, want to know how I fit it all in? Here’s my daily routine:
    8a Wake up, get dressed, make Adele a bottle. Irving plays with her as I get ready for work. I also prep Adele’s lunchbox for the day with her milk and food. Then I make my lunch and grab breakfast before heading out the door.
    9a Work, Work, Work
    5p Leave work, pick up Adele at Daycare
    6p Arrive back home, play with Adele either on the floor, in front of the mirror or crawling around the house
    6:30p Dinner Time. I give Adele her food (usually real whole food — Baby Led Weaning!) and I eat beside her at the table.
    7p Bath Time. Then Bottle. Then some books.
    7:30p Adele goes to sleep. I clean up from dinner, wash all the bottles from the day and set the dishwasher. I also fold the laundry, pick up toys and do a “left to right” cleaning up the house
    8p Attack my digital project (see above). Play Pandora while cleaning photos.
    10p Jump in bed to read, blog, read blogs or watch TV
    12a Lights out!
And just for fun… a picture to make the post more interesting!
That’s my brain dump for the week. Thanks for playing!
