Challah = Holla! March 22, 2011

For some reason, whenever anyone says ‘Challah’, I always want to yell “Holla!”
IMG_4835

Irving and I had a lunchtime date at Costco today. Oh, the life of the adult, huh? We picked up a lovely loaf of Challah, and I just think it looks so pretty!
IMG_4836

This gorgeous bottle of Moscato also ended up in my cart. I don’t know how it happened!
IMG_4838 IMG_4840

It’s from Israel! My Jewish mother-in-law would be proud. I can’t wait to open this up. A bottle of red wine will stay half full in our house for a couple of weeks. But Moscato, Ice Wine or Chardonnay? 2 days, flat! We’re total wine-o’s. (hahaha, that’s not really true, but I do love really sweet wine!)

I went out on a 3-mile walk after work tonight. I love how clear the sky is after the rain in Los Angeles. On the way out I grabbed a Hunk-O-Challah! I kept chanting that in my head “hunk o’ challah, hunk o’challah”.

I chatted with my sister for the entire three miles. She just finished up another semester of grad school. GO, LAURIE!

Mountains of Snow! February 1, 2011

This morning, I tried to get a bit of upper body strength in. I put on the Today Show and got down to business with my 5lb weights:

  • Rows 15×2 each
  • Bicep Curls 15 x2
  • Overhead Tricep Dips 15 x 2
  • Pushups (girl style) x 20
  • Chest Press 15×2
  • Crunches x 50

The big story on the news today is all that snow the east coast is being pounded with. I just can’t believe all the bad weather they got over there this year. It’s already February and they are expecting another two feet of snow by tomorrow! The reporters keep talking about all the freezing temperatures across the country… and then they show LA and it’s 72, 74, 75, sunny, sunny, sunny. We live in a bubble out here.

My mom told me she can’t see her neighbors over the snowbanks, they just hold up their shovels and wave to each other that way. Hopefully they have an amazing spring and summer to make up for all this white stufff!

Me and my parents (circa 1986)

The Today Show screwed up today and they left Al’s microphone on too long and we could hear him saying “What? What should I say next? Who do I toss this next segment to? Matt?” I always think this is hilarious when it happens because I used to work in a newsroom. Anyways, happy Tuesday!

On Christmas Morning, we all woke up pretty early to see what Santa brought us!!

IMG_2610

IMG_2606

I was really missing Irving, but Santa didn’t forget him!
IMG_2611

Stockings always come first!
IMG_2608

I got so many awesome gifts, lots of running related things, cooking things, games and other fun stuff. Santa definitely spoiled us this year!

Then we headed to my aunt’s house for our annual family game night. This year’s game of choice was Scribblish!
IMG_2615

If you haven’t seen this game yet, you just have to trust me that it’s the best game of the year. It was HILARIOUS!
IMG_2617

It involves lots of drawing…and laughing hysterically at said drawings.
IMG_2618

~~~~~~
The next day… the big storm hit….
IMG_2621
We had to snowblow and shovel 1.5 feet of snow out of the driveway.
IMG_2620
Not fun. But we made the best of it by hanging out inside and doing our annual sisters photoshoot!!
A Holiday Recap–Christmas Eve
I know, I have been a negligent blogger as of late. I was also a pretty bad Christmas vacation photographer. But I have lots of memories and warm moments to share.
It all started way back last week. I had to pack up all my presents and fly them with me to Boston. It probably would have been easier to wrap them when I got there, but I’m a sucker for wrapping up surprises.
That gnome wrapping paper was from Ikea about four years ago. I FINALLY used it all up this year!
IMG_2526
All packed up and ready to go! Thank goodness for Southwest’s free baggage allowance!
IMG_2528
A few of my friends and I have a tradition of getting together for breakfast on Christmas Eve day. This year, we were also joined by the gorgeous baby Harper!
IMG_2530
She’s at a fun smiley age now. I was in love.
IMG_2534
IMG_2537 IMG_2535 IMG_2536
Katie, me, Harper and Shelby!
IMG_2545
I already miss all of them!
IMG_2542
Then I spent the afternoon hanging out with my sisters, wrapping more presents and getting ready for Christmas Eve! My whole family and all the cousins head to my grandparents house. Now that everyone is getting older, it’s so much fun.
IMG_2550
IMG_2552
We’re also pretty big on photoshoots. HAHA
We forced invited the boys to join in too!
IMG_2558
My family!
IMG_2567
We also have a weird side!
IMG_2568
IMG_2575
We sang lots of Christmas Carols before we ate!
IMG_2561
We had a great buffet for dinner. Everyone brought something. Since our family is Lebanese, we always have amazing middle eastern food.
It was so nice to be with my sisters!!
Two of my favorite gifts to give this year….
The Golf Sweater T-Shirt!
And our 2010 Vancouver Olympics jacket that we picked up in February in the Olympic Village!
Merry Christmas Eve!!
Christmas Tree Time!! December 3, 2010
First of all, I can’t believe that it’s already December. Where did the year go! Regardless, I’m super excited, I love this time of year, especially in Los Angeles. It gets just cold enough to feel like Christmas, but still warm enough that you don’t need a coat.
This year, we went to get our tree at Home Depot (can’t beat the price and the convenience!)
IMG00010-20101201-2019
For some reason, I started to feel a little emotional buying our tree. I just feel so lucky that we are able to afford the tree we want to get. We are so fortunate that we don’t have to choose between a tree or food on the table like so many Americans. The tree is a constant reminder to us to remember what’s really important in life, I am so lucky to have Irving and two great families to celebrate the holidays with.
We brought it home and gave her a new home in the dining room.
IMG_2239
We let it settle and open up and we watched an episode of Weeds. And then we dragged out all the ornaments!
IMG_2245
IMG_2246
We put up two strands of lights and watched her glow.
IMG_2248
We were so tired at that point that we went to bed (GASP! Without putting the ornaments on!)
So today, we woke up at 5:30a and decorated her before work. Smile Much better!
IMG_2257
We always buy a Christmas ornament from every place we travel to.
This year’s new additions:
Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
IMG_2258
Dubai, UAE (It’s ‘gold’ and it’s a camel. how perfect is that?)
IMG_2259
Cairo, Egypt (which was actually really hard to find!)
IMG_2268
And I know this sounds really bad, but I think I got this last year for Christmas and I really really really love this ornament….  does anyone know who gave this to me? I want to write it on the box!
IMG_2262
The rest of the house got decorated as well!
Who says Sunflowers aren’t Christmasy?
IMG_2255
I’ll get a picture of us in front of the tree this week to post. Now it’s time to get shopping!
