One of our ‘must sees’ on our St. Louis to-do list was to visit all the attractions in Forest Park. The park became famous in 1904 after hosting both the Summer Olympics AND the 1904 World’s Fair (aka: The Louisiana Purchase Exposition).

Most of the World’s Fair buildings no longer exist anymore (it would have been too expensive to build them for long-term use). But you can still feel the history there.

This pavilion was built decades after the World’s Fair, but it commemorates the big event. That 1904 exposition was the first time the world had seen an ice cream cone, hamburgers, hot dogs, cotton candy, Dr. Pepper, peanut butter and iced tea. <—all my favorite things!

Look! A map of the Louisiana Purchase!

More history! We were in nerd heaven!

Also in the park is the Saint Louis Art Museum.

We only had a little bit of time, so we grabbed a map at the front desk and set off to find all the important pieces. We got to see some Van Gogh, Picasso, Pollock and Matisse.

I also saw this piece again. I think this is my 3rd time seeing this one (unless there are multiple versions of it?) It’s by El Anatsui. I like it, it’s made out of liquor bottle tops.

After our quick jaunt around the museum, we hopped back in the car to drive over to the Jewel Box. It’s an art deco greenhouse in the park.

And the last thing we did in the park was visit the Zoo! It’s free, why not! It was really hot and we were getting hungry, so we only did a quick loop around. It was a really great zoo, someday, i’ll have to go back with Adele!

Forest Park gets an A+ in my book. It’s bigger than Central Park and so beautiful and clean!

Zimmer Children’s Museum February 6, 2013

Last weekend, I organized a play date at the Zimmer Children’s Museum in downtown LA. It was a blast and we had 8 babies and 15 adults come! The museum is so cute and I’m sure it’ll be even more fun once Adele is older and walking. But I would still highly recommend it for the little ones as well!

IMG_9665

They have a whole area called “VIB” (Very Important Babies) and it was AWESOME!
IMG_9618

The whole room is padded, making it the perfect environment to roll, tumble, crawl and play. All of the babies had a blast hanging out in there.
IMG_9627

Plus they have baskets full of squishy blocks and toys that they can play with. I think all the kids were tuckered out by the end. So much fun!

Um, hi. She can stand? When did this happen? She can even stand without assistance for a couple of seconds now too!

IMG_9699

The rest of the museum encourages imaginary play and other sensory learning areas. Irving and I were more excited than she was, it was awesome!

We put Adele in the ball pit. She was not a fan. And I’m pretty sure she’s traumatized for the rest of his life. “It’s ok, honey. Just smile for the camera, you’re fine”. Parents of the year. Yes.

Introducing Adele to Cleopatra September 30, 2012

On our maternity leave bucket list was visiting the California Science Center to see the Cleopatra Exhibit. Last week, we seized the opportunity and headed downtown.

Cleopatra Exhibit (9)

Irving and I visited Egypt a couple of years ago, and have since been fascinated with the history. It’s crazy to think that these pieces traveled all the way to Los Angeles for us to see.
Cleopatra Exhibit (2)

There weren’t too many artifacts, but the ones they had were pretty significant. Most were found under the sea in Alexandria and they were preserved really well.
 Cleopatra Exhibit (4)

PS. I am so impressed with myself that these photos with no flash came out!
Cleopatra Exhibit (7)

I wonder if Adele will be intrigued by ancient Egypt like I was too. Don’t all little kids want to be archeologists?

We did our usual walk through the giftshop after, imagining what Adele might pick out someday.

I love museums. We are so lucky to have so many close to us here.

A Year to be Thankful for… November 29, 2010

Thanksgiving was a blast this year. It’s always fun when families from all over the country can get together to celebrate family. This time around, we headed up to San Francisco to Irving’s mom’s house.

We left late on Wednesday night to ‘beat’ the traffic rush. We hit a little bit on the grapevine heading out of Los Angeles…

But after that, it opened up and it was actually a really nice drive. Per usual, we stopped at Harris Ranch for dinner. I love that place. One of these days, we’re going to spend the night there, it’s just so cute.

~~~~~
On Thanksgiving Day, we woke up, and the cooking began!
IMG_2099
I made my favorite Sweet Potato Casserole (the recipe from my Aunt Donna that I make for Thanksgiving every year). It’s so good!
IMG_2084
Awe!
IMG_2092
Before we knew it, EJ (Irving’s sister) and  her wife Sarah had arrived…and jumped straight into the kitchen!
IMG_2086
Sarah’s mom Mona and Nini struck up a conversation and entertained the cooks.IMG_2088
IMG_2096
Irving also helped prepare our Thanksgiving meal…
IMG_2087
Don’t worry…we woke him up to carve the Turkey!
IMG_2100
Sarah made a fantastic Pecan Pie!
Our Turkey was AWESOME! I am not a huge turkey eater, but I really enjoyed this one.
Cheers to a great family, all together!
IMG_2127
And if that wasn’t enough food… perhaps we should have dessert? We had a whole bunch of treats including the Peacn Pie, Pumpkin Cheesecake and these chocolate covered dates we brought back from Dubai!
IMG_2131
We finished off the night with a fun game of ‘Apples to Apples’. Even Nini played, it was so fun!
IMG_2134
And then I think we all fell asleep with food comas. What a fun day!
