This weekend, I will be completing my 6th (Yes, SIXTH!) Nike Women’s (Half) Marathon! At this point, I’ve been doing this race for so long that I feel like I just have to run! Every year I get butterflies thinking of the expo, the course and the TIFFANY’S NECKLACE! I can’t believe it’s here!

Seems like just yesterday I was at the starting line of my very first marathon!

This time around, I’m doing something I’ve never done before… walking the entire course. I haven’t really been running as much as I should, and I don’t want to get hurt, so I plan on power-walking the whole 13.1 miles, while snapping amazing pictures like this along the way:

It’s going to take a while, but I’m just so excited, I hope it does. It always goes by too fast anyways.

You can expect a full race recap next week (with lots of pictures)!

And if you want to see my race recaps, here they are!

I’m always excited to find new running routes (I mean, there’s only so many times you can run around Balboa Lake!)

This morning was my first time at Hansen Dam, and I was quite impressed. It was beautiful, flat and gorgeous.

The golf course looked really nice!

The run/bike path was paved, but off to the side, it looked like the desert!

Hi!

The Racers!

PS, check out the sun trying to peek through the clouds!

It was a really nice run. I walked a chunk of it, but it was still a great 400-calorie burn workout!

I then came home and enjoyed a 2 hour nap.

That should be my motto: Will Run for Nap!

‘Rocking It’!! August 13, 2010

So after our healthy unhealthy meal last night, Erika and I really needed to get out for a run!! Even though it was 85* outside, we still tried to get in a good workout.
IMG_5347

I was hoping my 13.1 Pasadena Half-Marathon shirt would give me motivation!

IMG_5348

It was soooo hot out, and I think I was dehydrated to begin with, I was definitely dragging. We did a combination of walking and running whenever we felt like it.

Walking + Running = Rocking!   We Rocked it!

In all, we did 5.5 miles that included a loop around to Trader Joes for a few things. Including these Dried Mangos, which I attacked on the way home!
IMG_5351

Now, I’m in the process of baking some “No Pudge Fudge Brownies”! Seriously, you combine the mix with a cup of yogurt and bake!! Mmmm!

PS… Look what I got in the mail today!!! SOOO CUTE!!!

Such a great weekend!! August 8, 2010

I had such a great relaxing, yet productive weekend!! I started it out by organizing and cleaning up so I had the whole rest of the time to have fun without guilt.

I really did three things all weekend: Run, Cook and SCRAPBOOK!!

I really HATE to cook. I hate all things related to cooking: grocery shopping, meal planning, and the actual cooking part. (Don’t let my sporadic recipes on the blog fool you!)

But I got the itch and suddenly my kitchen looked like this:
IMG_5307

I made a Blueberry & Peach Crisp, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Blueberry Muffins, Israeli Cous Cous, and a few other random meals in there. I don’t know what came over me!

While I was baking, I was listening to the “90s” music station on the cable box. I literally squealed when this came on!

After I got all of my domestic duties out of the way…. it was on to SCRAPBOOKING!

My Dining room went from this:

To This… in 10 minutes FLAT!

Seriously, it looks like I own a scrapbook store.
IMG_5298 IMG_5295 IMG_5301 IMG_5296

It was “Operation-Make-My-Wedding-Scrapbook!”

This is my STACK of things to get into that book:
IMG_5294

I have SO many wedding-related things to use, it was so much fun.
 IMG_5304

Our colors were Teal and Brown, so I saved all the ribbon I got over the past 2 years!

The Carnage:

I promise to show you the finished pages when it’s done. I’m really proud of how it’s coming out. Stay tuned!

This morning, I headed out to the beach with the Los Angeles Racers for a 6-mile run (per my training plan). Mile 3 was pretty slow for me, but I was able to pick up the pace at the end (thanks to my friends!!)

The weather was perfect. Overcast and a  little cool. PERFECT!! We even saw dolphins swimming off the coast towards the end!!

And speaking of dolphins, I just wanted to share this picture of Irving unknowingly swimming with dolphins in Malibu in 2006!

Heading out into the surf:

Here are the dolphins playing in the waves!

Irving ended up right next to them! He told me after that he didn’t see them and when he turned around he thought it was a shark. Scary!! But they just wanted to play!

I love Los Angeles!!! Have a great week everyone!

Sunday Funday! August 1, 2010

This morning, I got out the door at 6:30a to meet the Los Angeles Racers for a 5-mile run. It was fantastic. I was still a little tight from the 5k Erika and I ran this week (because I’m sadly a wee bit out of practice with the running!) But I really pushed myself today and it felt amazing.

I was with a few friends and I kept pace with them pretty good today. Sometimes it feels amazing to push past your comfort level a little bit and push on. It was a really rewarding run.

Plus the sun stayed hidden by the clouds til after we were done. That always helps.

Here’s the stats:
5 Miles in 1:03. Burned 470 Calories.

Mile 1: 11:48
Mile 2: 13:28
Mile 3: 12:28
Mile 4: 12:32
Mile 5: 12:45

I was hoping for some negative splits, but I’m pretty happy about our pace. That was doing 5:5 intervals (5 minutes running and 5 minutes walking).

~~~~~~
After coming home and showering, Erika and Timmy and I walked down to the Hollywood Farmer’s Market.
IMG_5207  IMG_5206
We saw this lemonade stand and HAD to get some!
IMG_5209
IMG_5210
I got a Watermelon Lemonade! (PS. I’m trying curls in my hair. What do you think?)
IMG_5211
For lunch, we met up with Irving at Umami Burger in Hollywood.
IMG_5212
It’s a funky new restaurant that all the celebs are raving about.
IMG_5213
At first, I was less than impressed. The staff wasn’t very outgoing and it was a little awkward.
There are also a lot of ordering “rules” and they are pretty adamant about them. I thought this was a little off putting.
But all that aside, the burger was actually really impressive.
IMG_5214
(But I hate when restaurants don’t serve anything on the side. It was literally JUST the burger. Where are my fries and pickles? (They are sold separately and that really annoys me!)
This was definitely a gourmet burger, and it was worth all the aggravation.
IMG_5215
Irving’s had crusted parmesan and some other goodies on it.
IMG_5216
I’m not a huge meat eater, but I ate every last bite of mine. MMM!
IMG_5217
For “dessert”, we had some of Honey Straws from the Farmer’s Market!
Irving’s matched his shirt!
A very fun day in Hollywood.
