Adele sleeps really well through the night. She falls asleep easily in her crib and stays there for 12-13 hours straight.

But naps. That’s a whole different story. She naps great at Daycare, but when the weekends roll around, she only sleeps in the car, in the stroller or strapped into the carrier on either Irving or I. She doesn’t nap in the crib. [To her defense, we really haven’t put in my effort to make her try….]

To her, naptime = playtime and she laughs and plays for an hour doing this:

But this weekend, we figured it out. She just wanted to nap in mom & dad’s bed instead!

She slept like that for 3 hours Sunday afternoon! Apparently she just needs pillows and a duvet cover to catch her Zzzz’s! File that one under #spoiled.

Baby Does Yoga! December 20, 2012

This week, I took Adele to a Mommy & Me yoga class. (Actually, it was my old prenatal class, but they don’t mind if you bring your babies!) The class was at 7pm and I wasn’t sure how she’d do sine it was smack dab in the middle of her bedtime. She slept through the first few minutes of class, and then woke up. I laid out a big blanket and scattered some toys around and continued with the class.

She LOVED it! She was fascinated by everyone in the class and watched us go through the flows. And then all of a sudden, she started to imitate us! When we did downdog, she pushed up on all fours! When we laid flat on the ground to stretch, she rolled over and did the same! When we meditated, she thought it was a great opportunity to practice her squealing. I whispered: “Shhh, baby has to be quiet…” to which she responded with more (louder) squeals and laughter.

At the end of the class, the mama-to-be’s all laid down and put their hands on their growing bellies to send positive messages to their babies. I did the same, only I placed Adele on my tummy and played with her during that part of the meditation. She looked into my eyes, grabbed my cheeks, put her fingers in my mouth and stuck her tongue out at me. I smiled back, stroked her hair and kissed her back. Those moments were some of my favorite as a mother. I felt such appreciation for Adele. I can’t believe she was in my belly a year ago when I started doing Yoga.

I think we both had a great time and we both slept really well that night too. My muscles, mind and heart felt strong that night. Namaste.

And because a post isn’t complete without some kind of photo or video… here’s a recent one of Adele practicing her cat/cow poses. =)

Reflection December 17, 2012

All weekend, I tried to stay away from the news. The tragedy at Sandy Hook is too much for me to comprehend. I’m shaken to my core imagining what a nightmare those parents and families are going through this week. I don’t know what to say. My heart goes out to all those people mourning the loss of those innocent and beautiful children.

All weekend I have been snuggling Adele extra close and giving her as much attention and love as possible. We danced to Christmas music, we napped together in bed, we sang silly songs and we giggled together on the floor.

Typically, I put Adele down to sleep and she whines a bit before falls asleep. Usually, I let her fuss for 10 minutes or so before I go back in and soothe her. But tonight, instead of waiting, I swooped in right away and I held her for a long time. I rocked and nursed her until her eyes closed. I watched her soft eyelashes settle into slumber. I heard her breaths become steady and rhythmic. I watched her chest rise and fall as sweet dreams filled her head. I felt the weight of her little body in my arms. I kissed her velvety hair and I inhaled her baby smell. My fingertips stroked her soft cheeks and admired her perfect features.

Tears filled my eyes as I thought about those Sandy Hook children. In the other room, the TV was on NBC I heard the song Hallelujah was playing in the background. A beautiful song. Each contestant held a sign for one of the victims. I thought it was beautiful.

My mind kept going to one child in particular tonight: Catherine V. Hubbard. That cute little girl shares the same birthday as Adele. June 8th. She only had six birthdays. Six. We will always remember her.
