Irving made the most delicious chicken soup today from scratch. Man, it is the healthiest soup and it really does cure everything from a common cold to a bad day. I have to get his recipe to share.

After indulging in the soup and an episode of Secret Life (I can’t wait for the season finale next week!) I headed out for a walk around the neighborhood. I used a new Android app called Runkeeper. It’s pretty neat! I have a Garmin that pretty much does the same thing, but this was really convenient. (It is a battery drain on the phone though).

In about an hour, I walked 3.5 miles.

And while I walked, I completely cleaned out my google reader. Whew! Multitasking!

Continuing on with the 30 Day Challenge, here’s part two of my 30 Things About Me. (Here’s the first half!)

  1. When I lived in Europe, I worked in our school dining hall clearing tables and setting up placemats. (What? Didn’t your college have placemats?)  I got paid an American salary but in Euro currency. At the time, when the dollar was strong, this was a major deal!
  2. My engagement ring includes a family diamond with an incredible story behind it. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of the strength, success and love of my husband’s family. Perhaps I’ll save the story for another post.

  3. I bite my nails. But I kinda wish I didn’t.
  4. I think it’s incredible to watch my closest friends becoming moms. It makes me feel lucky to be surrounded by such strong women.
  5. In 2000, Ashley and I got backstage passes to a Blink 182 concert and we got to hang out with the band before the show.

  6. The above pictures were decoupaged onto an awesome jewelry box that Ashley made for me in High School. It stands proud on my bookshelf!

  7. My mom has a home video of me scooping up sand in the backyard. When she asked me what I was making, I answered "A Tuna Sandwich". True Story.
  8. I’m 1/4 Lebanese, 1/4 Polish, 1/4 Italian and 1/4 Native American (I’m told it was the Micmac tribe from Canada?)
  9. My dad built a "Beer Wagon" from scratch when I was little. It’s the only life-size replica of the model car in the world.

  10. I took six years of Latin, three years of Classical Greek, one year of Italian and one semester of Arabic. I really love learning different languages! Spanish is next on my list!
  11. I don’t watch a lot of TV in general, but we do get some shows on Netflix and save some on the Tivo. My favorites are: Big Love, Weeds, Entourage, The Amazing Race, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team, and of course, The Secret Life of the American Teenager!
  12. I used to play the piano and the flute, but now I don’t even remember how to read music!

  13. My happy place is Lake Winnipesaukee. I grew up going there in the summer. I love boating, swimming, tubing and walking on the boardwalk. It is definitely my favorite place to visit in the whole world. It’s so peaceful, gorgeous and full of fun, happy memories for me. It was an easy decision to get married up there. Don’t you just want to jump right in??

  14. My favorite Disney movie is “The Little Mermaid”.
  15. My middle name is Lynne. Kelley Lynne.

Whoo Hoo! A Fun Challenge Day!

Ok, here we go! 30 Interesting Facts About Myself! Buckle Up!
I’m going to break this up into TWO posts. Here’s Round 1!

  1. I got cancer when I was 16 and I got to do the “Make-A-Wish” program! My wish was to go to Los Angeles and visit the set of Roswell. It was my favorite show at the time and my family and I got to meet the whole cast and hang out with the crew! It was an amazing trip and ever since then I knew I’d live in LA someday!

  2. My first car was a 1989 Honda Accord. It had a sun roof and I LOVED it! A lot of good memories in that car (including blasting the heat on a 90 degree day on the way to the beach to make sure the engine didn’t overheat!)
  3. When I was in 5th grade, I got to visit City Hall. I met a city council woman and after being introduced, I asked her if there was any way she could get my street paved so I could ride my bike without running over pot holes. The whole neighborhood got redone within a month!
  4. I LOVED the movie Kill Bill when it came out and I saw it three times in the theater in the same week.
  5. Even though I’m only 28, I have bunions on both of my feet!
  6. I’ve never broken a bone.
  7. I lived in The Netherlands for four months in college and stayed in a 12th century castle.
  8. I played field hockey for three years in High School. I played the sweeper position.

  9. I ran a half marathon through the park, but I’ve never actually been to Disneyland!

  10. My freshman year of college, I lived in a quad. Four walls, four girls. It was rough.
  11. I skydived over the Swiss Alps in 2003.

  12. When Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet came out, I was OBSESSED with the movie. I saw it in theaters and bought the screenplay. We didn’t have HBO or Pay Per View, but I’d sit and listen to the movie on repeat when it was on even though the video was scrambled.
  13. I’d take vanilla over chocolate ANY day.

  14. I had pierced my upper ear three times. 1.) My friend did it himself 2.) In Rhodes, Greece 3.) Professionally at the mall. I also had my belly button pierced for a year in college, but that didn’t last long.
  15. I was in the Computer Club in 5th grade and in the Rocket Club in 6th grade  (I used to build and launch my own rockets!). I’m pretty sure I was the only girl in both.

Stay tuned for Round II. Anything you want to know?

Continuing on with the 30 Day Challenge, another rather strange topic to discuss on (my) blog.
A Time you thought about ending your own life.

I really don’t have much to say about this because it has NEVER EVER even crossed my mind. I am a very happy go-lucky person and I can’t imagine what could possibly be so bad that there was no way out. There is always a way out. Yea, life can really suck sometimes, but humans are resilient and are often surprised by how strong they can be.

And with that, I leave you with a quote that I saw on Erica’s blog a few weeks back.

Day 4 = My Views on Religion

I try to keep things light around here, and religion is a personal topic.  But looking down that list above at the future topics to come, maybe this won’t be the most personal. Or maybe it is.

I don’t want to talk about religion because I don’t think that’s what my blog is here for. So instead of talking about RELIGION, I’ll discuss my FAITH.

I have to admit, I’m not 100% sure exactly what or if I believe in anything really. I never really thought to define my beliefs, but if I had to choose, the closest thing would probably be agnostic? I may not have a religion, but I do have faith. Lots of it. And in my opinion, that’s all that matters. You can have faith in god, a higher being, karma or yourself. Just have faith in something. You need something to motivate you through life, instill compassion and provide moral and ethical boundaries. Our world needs faith, otherwise we’d all be pessimistic narcissists. Wow, where did THAT come from?

I really do believe in Karma. That whole “Treat people as you want to be treated” isn’t called the Golden Rule for nothing. If you do good things, good things will happen to you.  Life usually deals some good even with the bad, and it’s up to us to seek out those gifts.

When I was 16, I got cancer. For a brief moment, I did question why God would do that to me. But then I realized, it wasn’t about what God maybe did or didn’t do. I had a teacher tell me that ‘everything happens for a reason, even if we don’t know what that reason is yet’. I will never know why I got cancer, but I’m thankful for having had it. It taught me to dream big and to have the courage to follow those dreams. I had faith that things would work out the way they were meant to.

I do think I sometimes confuse faith with optimism. But really, aren’t they two of the same? Maybe that’s it. There you go. I believe in optimism. The world could probably stand to have a little more of that, don’t you think? More compassion, more patience, more positive energy?

And at the end of the day, at the core of it, isn’t optimism the foundation of any religion anyways?

May I present Day 3 of the 30 day blogging challenge!

30-Day-Challenge2_thumb

This is kind of a strange topic for a blog post, but here it is! My views on drugs and alcohol.

Drugs are bad, kids. Just don’t do it.
DARE

And while we’re at it, let me just say publicly that I can not STAND cigarettes. The smell is repulsive. Gross. There is nothing worse than going out for a run and coming across a thick cloud of cancer-stick smoke.

Regarding alcohol, though I’m not a very big drinker, once in a while, I do enjoy a good beer, sweet cocktail or a glass or two of wine.
Iceland - 2009 (224)
Blue Lagoon Cocktails in Iceland on our Honeymoon!

I definitely don’t need alcohol to have a good time (I never have). I have a pretty low tolerance, so I prefer to stay cohesive and not risk getting sick the next day. (Oh man, those days are DEFINITELY over). We are notorious for opening a bottle of wine and leaving it half empty in the fridge for weeks. But it is fun to have a great beer on tap, or a crisp glass of Riesling, so when the situation is right, I’ll indulge. (And have no qualms about doing so).

I really don’t have a moral stance on alcohol one way or another. I just know what my own limits are and choose to stay within them.

Plus, let’s face it, root beer beats regular beer in a taste test any day!

Would you rather have a beer or a rootbeer on tap?
I’d choose Root Beer for sure. Especially over icecream. Mmmm!
