This past weekend I traveled back home to Boston for a few days. Flights were SO CHEAP! I scored a deal on Jetblue that came to about $99 each way plus tax! Couldn’t say no! I was so glad that I did. It was nice to see family and friends and have absolutely no plans. There was no big event or reason for my visit, so everything was relaxed and fun and I got to spend some time with some of my favorites.
I crashed and took a 2 hour nap when I got home, and then met up with my mom, grandmother and sister for lunch at an Irish Pub nearby. It was so fun to have a girls lunch and catch up. That alone was worth the plane ticket.
And for dessert… I ordered a Hoodsie Cup!!!! If you’re not from New England, you have probably never had one of these, but it’s SO GOOD! I crave them on the west coast and was happy to introduce the baby to the joy of Hoodsies. =)
In the afternoon, Mom and I ventured to Buy Buy Baby to do some research. I was numb by the end, so many decisions to make! How do you know what kind of crib/car seat/stroller/high chair/bottles/etc/etc/etc you need?! I walked away with the Baby Bargains book (it was on my to-do list this week anyways!) so hopefully that will help in some of those decisions. It was so fun though and got me so excited to meet the little one.
On Sunday, I helped my mom clean up her computer (she downloaded a virus. sigh). It took all day to get it all straight again, but it was nice because in between we played games of scrabble and went shopping. Things I really never get to do with my mom when I come home for Christmas or something.
In the evening I met up with my high school friends for an awesome dinner at a place a few towns over. I miss these girls so much and it was awesome to spend a whole night with them. Hi Steph and Court!
Katie is 6 weeks ahead of me and it was fun to compare notes. =) Wish we lived closer! But maybe our kids can be pen pals some day!
After dinner, we watched the Golden Globes…. and had another Hoodsie Cup!!!!! Yes. They are that good.
Monday morning I got the pleasure of having breakfast with this guy!!! I can’t believe how big he has gotten, he was a little man, entertaining us while we ate. I gave him lots of kisses and hugs and in return he gave me tons of smiles and giggles.
His momma and I also enjoyed a morning of scrabble, laughing and trying on maternity clothes (I’m a lucky girl, she gave me so many shirts!) One morning is never enough, but I was happy to be able to hang out!!
And that was it! The weekend went by way too fast but it was one of the best.
Living far away is tough, but if you scoop up good deals when you can, it’s do-able. Although I think my parents were much too sad to see me leave this time. I’ll be back soon though!
My flight was an hour delayed leaving Boston, but Jetblue made up for it with free movies on board. Add that to the free checked bag and empty seat next to me and all was forgiven. (Take note US AIR!)
I skipped Yoga last night. I was so sad because I had been looking forward to it, but I was jetlagged and just exhausted from the trip. I have to start listening to my body I suppose. Plus it was the kind of night where you break a glass in the sink and then have to fight back tears (yea, I was tired). But I feel much better today and all is right in the world.
Well, it really does seem like there has been a parade of babies lately! First it was wedding after wedding and now so many of my friends are starting families and it’s so much fun. This weekend was the baby shower of my good friend, Janet. She’s having a baby boy soon and was great to celebrate with her.
The shower was gorgeous, everything was just so adorable.
What a good idea to make tea sandwiches out of cookie cutters! ![]()

And the cake! Oh, the cake. More on that later. But it matched the plates! ![]()
I couldn’t wait to steal a taste of that icing! ![]()
It was so nice to have a sit down lunch and get to know some of Janet’s friends. Such a great group of girls. ![]()

We played a lot of really fun games that I’d never seen before. This first one had a board of all kinds of candy bars. Then the host read a story and you had to guess which one matched. For example: “The amount of hospital bills from having a baby…. 100 Grand” or “Twin baby Boys… Mike and Ike”. All of them were so funny we were laughing so hard. ![]()
There was a game of ‘match the celebrity baby’ too. I’m happy to report that I got them all right. ![]()
Ok, seriously, how cute is this? Can you believe someone made this? ![]()
Lunch was delicious. Especially the salad. I almost went back for more. ![]()
Later, we all decorated onesies for the baby. ![]()
We each started with a different size onesie. A blank canvas if you will. ![]()
Janet’s husband and Irving were college roommates, so I thought it was appropriate to represent! ![]()
I’m sure it will be his favorite shirt. Bahaha ![]()
Then we ate the cake!! Oh man, I love cake. I asked for a piece with extra frosting and boy did they deliver. Some of the best icing I’ve ever had. That “sugar-rush-to-you-brain-hurt” kind of good. It tasted as amazing as it looked.
Note: not my piece of cake. Mine had extra smears of icing all over the plate. ![]()
Soon it was time to shower Janet with presents. Everything was just so cute. We oo’d and aah’d over all of it. ![]()
Baby Rocker T-shirts! Are you kidding? Adorable. ![]()
Congrats to the mama-to-be. She was just glowing. So happy to be part of this special day. ![]()
A couple of years ago, it seemed like everyone we knew was engaged and getting married! And now it feels like all my friends have baby fever! Each of my bridesmaids in my wedding has since had a baby and so many more of my good friends. It’s so exciting to see your childhood friends become moms themselves. So when we were home last week, I made sure to have plenty of time to get my fill of the little ones!
We organized an afternoon in the park, and it was SO much fun!![]()
We miss these guys so much! They’re all getting SO big!!! Here’s Harper, Brady and Hudson! They played together all afternoon. It was so exciting to hold them, chat with the moms (and dads!) and enjoy the fresh summer breeze. I wish I had more time, I can’t get enough of them!

Parents: This just in… Blue Duckies are the hot new item! The kids LOVE them!

A few hours definitely wasn’t enough time, but I enjoyed EVERY second of hanging out with my friends! When I have kids of my own, I have plenty of experts to ask for advice! ![]()
XOXO, Love you guys!
Today, I hosted a baby shower at my house for my good friends, Erika and Timmy. They are expecting a baby girl in a month or so and we are SO excited for them! I’ve been collaborating with her mom on the party, and I think it came out so cute! I think baby Sophie will love all her gifts!

We totally lucked out that it’s Easter Season because Easter Colors = Baby Shower colors!
Timmy’s sister made an awesome Diaper Cake! Very Cute!
I could never make a cake that would come out remotely as good as Erika could, so I didn’t even try. I left the cake to the professionals and got some Yummy Cupcakes. Wise decision. They were awesome!
Sugar Close-Up Awesomeness!
Since Erika loves books (who doesn’t!), we asked everyone to bring their favorite childhood book to add to Sophie’s bookshelf. Lots of fun kids books! I loved seeing what everyone picked. No duplicates either!
We played a couple of fun games. (And no, we did NOT play the ‘smell the diaper’ game. That’s gross.)
First up was ‘How Big is the Bump’.
We each cut some Tummy Tape the length we thought would fit around mama’s belly. Closest one wins!
Janet came the closest! The rest of us were way off. haha sorry Erika!
The second game we played was called ‘The Mommy Multitasker’! Each person had to pretend to hold a baby and be on the phone while trying to pin socks to the clothesline with one hand. The most socks pinned in 30 seconds wins!

The guys tried too. It was quite funny to watch!

We had three rounds of ties before finally finding a winner!

Since we had a small group, we decided to bring in some food from Pitfire Pizza. AMAZING. They have the best pizza.

They got so many great gifts. I think Baby Sophie will have everything she needs when she makes her debut into the world.

It was nice that Timmy was there too. I think he was getting a kick out of all the cute little baby things.

It was neat that some people got to watch via Skype.
We made goodie bags for all the guests too.
Each bag contained a cute notepad, a Cheerios Cereal Bar (they used to call the baby Cheerio before they knew it was going to be a girl!), some chocolate and a homemade bookmark.

Congratulations guys. We’re SO excited to meet the baby in just a few weeks!
