Old MacDonald Had a Duck October 14, 2013

While I was home, I wanted to get together with some of my friends and their kids! Seems like yesterday we were all 16 and driving to the beach together, but now, I counted 12 kids between us! It’s so much fun. We found a local farm to meet up at where the kids could see some animals, have some donuts and play. The weather was great, a perfect New England fall day.

Adele thinks anything with a beak is a duck, so she was quacking at the turkeys and the peacocks. haha

(PS. these pants. Love!)

It was fun to catch up with my friends too. In between tantrums, cranky babies, sleeping babies, dirty babies, hungry babies and running babies… we somehow managed a few minutes of actual conversation. Kinda. At the end, all the kids were melting down, it was actually pretty funny. That’s what it’s all about, right? Nothing a little pumpkin ice cream and some cider can’t fix.

I love this picture of Adele and Harper because I’m pretty sure I have one just like this of Shelby (Harper’s mom) and I at a farm when we were this age too! I have to find that!

I had big plans for a big group photo of all the kids, but it just wasn’t in the cards this time. Shelby and I stayed a little longer and let the kids wander around the pumpkin patch and chase ducks. Wish we lived closer!

When we got home, Adele wanted to take Gizmo for a walk. Out of all the animals at the farm, I think she still likes doggies the best.

After Mikaela’s bachelorette party, Irving met me in Boston and we got to enjoy two whole days together in the city! Adele had plenty of babysitters at my mom’s house, so we took advantage of the time to explore the city where Irving and I met!

On Sunday, we walked around Faneuil Hall and the Harbor. It was gorgeous out and we had fun just looking at everything that has changed (and hasn’t changed) since we left. (PS can you believe I’ve been living in LA for 9 years already?!) Crazy.

We ate lunch in Downtown Crossing.

And had dinner in the North End. It was fun to hold hands and pretend we were still in college. Awe, memories.

On Monday, we started our day with a tour of Emerson’s new campus. I’m so jealous of the kids who get to go to school there now. So many awesome changes. And somehow, we ended up getting theĀ Will & Grace set put on display in our library! Neat!!

(Here’s what it looked like on the show):

And then we rented bikes through Hubway! It was only $6 for a bike that we could use for 24 hours. The only catch is that you have to park and exchange it every 30 minutes or you get charged by the hour. I think it’s intended for short commutes, but Irving and I took this as a challenge. We biked 13 miles stopping to exchange our bikes 7 times (there are stations all over the city, it’s awesome!) Here’s a rough estimate of our route:

For lunch, we stopped at our old stomping ground! Wing-It!!!!!

Oh man, SO good!

After lunch, we were tired and headed back to our hotel (We stayed at the Omni Parker this time, it was pretty nice. Really old, but also charming and romantic.) We wanted to try and make it almost all the way back in 30 minutes (to minimize bike exchanges in between) but there was still time for a little pit stop along the charles:

What a fun adventure in the city. =)

It seems like it’s been FOREVER since I’ve posted anything! But I have a good excuse. We were busy watching this last week:

But that amazing day happened at the end of my week in Boston, so there’s lots to catch up on before then first! We flew in on Friday, September 27th on a direct flight. We booked an early morning flight out of LA this time and it was a good move. Adele played for a while and ended up falling asleep on me for a few hours in the middle. Ā We arrived in and met Laurie at the airport (she arrived a few minutes before us!) And we rented a car and drove to my parents house. We had a nice big family dinner that night and called it an early night. Feels good to be home!

Saturday was a busy day! Mikaela’s bachelorette party!!

It was a crazy night, you guys. We all got wild and…. did a hotel room PHOTOSHOOT! YES!!

That’s how we roll! We were channeling our inner Annie Leibovitz. Pretty good, right?!

A fun night to kick off the week of wedding festivities!!! Mikaela’s got some awesome friends!! Those girls are fun!!

Boston for the Weekend June 4, 2013

Remember that time I flew all the way across country by myself with a baby to spend one night in Boston and then flew all the way back home? Yep. That happened last weekend. It really takes an insane person to think that sounds like a good idea, doesn’t it? The flight wasn’t easy and it wasn’t pretty (I’ll spare you the details), but in the end, it was most definitely worth it.

This weekend was a surprise trip that my sister Laurie and I schemed up to surprise our family for a couple of important birthday celebrations. She had flown in the night before and stayed with a friend and then met me at the Boston airport early on Saturday morning. We rented a car and headed off for a day of surprises.

We originally planned to show up at our other sister Mikaela’s house (she was having a yard sale that morning!) but because of my delayed flight, we missed that opportunity. So instead, we decided to surprise my mom and dad first. My mom was participating in a kayak race down a river, so we wanted to be there cheering at the finish line as she came in….. but even THAT plan got foiled when we learned she had paddled so fast, she was the first woman to cross! (GO MOM!) When we arrived, she and my dad were already loading the kayak into the car, so our big reveal happened in the parking lot. They were SO surprised and in shock I think!
IMG_8202Side Note: Dad, send me the pictures from your camera and I’ll add in the ones with you in them too!!Ā

Adele spent the afternoon hanging out with her Grammie, Grandpa and Aunties (we were able to surprise Mikaela too when she showed up at mom’s house!) Everyone had fun playing with the baby and I got to steal a quick nap.
IMG_8208

In the evening, we took some family photos since the weather was SO NICE while I was there.

Adele smells a flower… and then tries to eat it. LOL

So why were we all dressed up? It was the night of Great-Grammie’s surprise birthday party!!! Our entire family was there! Twenty-Four of us in all. She was SO surprised to see everyone there… and even MORE surprised to find out Laurie, Adele and I flew out for it! The moment that made the entire weekend worth it.

We had an awesome dinner. The food and company was great. Adele had fun schmoozing the crowd and eating lots of yummy food. Her smile says it all.

Haha I love this picture, looks like she’s trying to solve a difficult algebra problem or something.

After dinner, the party continued with cake and presents!

Happy 80th Birthday, Grammie!!

Such a wonderful and special night, so glad I got to be a part of it.

After our one and only night sleep in Boston, Adele enjoyed Sunday with our family. They soaked in every second with her.

A few hours before my flight out, Adele took a nice nap on her Grammie. I was in shock that my mom was able to get her to sleep like that. I took notes and I was able to do the same thing on my flight home that night! She slept the whole way back! Thanks, mom!

Today is actually my mom’s birthday too! Happy Birthday, mom!!!!! Love you so much! Hope you enjoyed our impromptu weekend home!

Walk down Boston’s Memory lane September 16, 2012

We were so excited to take Adele into downtown Boston to introduce her to some of our favorite spots when we were in College. First stop was to take her to our old dorm!
IMG_6416

We used to walk around Boston Common carrying backpacks and camera equipment for class, and now we’re toting around a baby. Kinda weird!
IMG_6421

We met up with Erika, Timmy and our friend Sean! It was super hot in the city, but it was SO FUN to walk around with them. I miss the old crew!
IMG_6419

Can’t wait to take Adele on her first Swan Boat ride. Maybe next year?

IMG_6420

Fun to get the girls together again too! They are almost exactly a year apart!
IMG_6426

After a sweaty few miles of walking, we stopped to have lunch in the Prudential Building (=air conditioning!) Someone must have been very tired from all that heat! haha!
IMG_6429

I tried ā€œThe Cheese Boxā€. It was pretty awesome.
IMG_6430

Right after, we met up with my friend, Steph! She works nearby and we hung out at the Public Library for a while together. (PS. I had no idea the library had a courtyard in the middle! So cool!)
IMG_6432IMG_6433

After that, we walked back across the common, through Quincy Market and to the North End (destination: Mike’s Pastry!) It was so fun to spend the day in a city I love so much. Irving and I started our story in Boston and it’s so fun to visit now as a family of three!
