Mid-Day Lunch Date! May 18, 2011

Irving’s been getting out of work pretty late, so the past couple of days, I’ve been staying up til almost midnight waiting for him. And that is just way past my bedtime. I was a complete zombie today. Hopefully I’ll be smart enough to hit the hay a little earlier for the rest of the week. This morning, I woke up to Irving telling me that the exterminator was at the door. Eek! Granted, I should have been up at 8am anyways, but I was in a dead sleep. (We had ONE lone ant near our door a few weeks ago, but we don’t take any chances. Stay. Out. Of. My. House!)

Anyways, since Irving and I won’t see each other for dinner this week, we’ve been having lunch dates at home! He cooks, I come home and eat. Win. Win!
IMG_5798

He even did the dishes after I went back to work. What a guy, huh?
IMG_5799

I knew I needed an afternoon pick-me-up to keep my eyelids open, so I brought a rootbeer back with me. Surprisingly, only four people made “You’re drinking at work?” comments to me. Delicious. (Can you spot Irving in the background?)
IMG_5800

I was completely baffled to see it actually only had 20 calories!

I’m SO excited to hang out with some fabulous bloggers tonight at a Girls Only Beer Festival. (Let’s hope I can stay awake!)

Where’d The Weekend Go? May 16, 2011

I had a fabulous weekend, but it went much too fast. On Saturday, I participated in Race/LA. It’s like The Amazing Race but it all takes place in one day in Los Angeles. If you love scavenger hunt/adventure races, definitely check it out. I’ve been working for them for six years! A few times a year they have the full day events and they are SO much fun.
IMG_5774

I hand out clues at certain stations around the city. Each stop has a clue with some kind of task they have to complete before moving on to the next one. It’s a ton of fun! I’ve never run the race as a competitor, but someday I really want to!
IMG_5775

On Sunday, my friend Courtney came to visit! We went to High School together and don’t get to hang out very often, so it was awesome to spend the whole day together!
IMG_5779

We did the usual touristy things around Hollywood: Mann’s Chinese Theater, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Sign, celeb stalking, etc. It was so much fun. Sometimes it’s easy to forget we actually live here! I love exploring this town and having friends to do it with!
IMG_5780

IMG_5778

Doesn’t this look like a tropical island or something? It was actually the Hollywood Reservoir! Who knew!

IMG_5781

IMG_5782

Since it rained Saturday night, the skies were so clear on Sunday. We could see all the way to the ocean from up in the Hollywood Hills.
IMG_5785

For lunch, we met up with Erika and Timmy too! We ate at Caioti Pizza in Tujunga Village. I love my high school friends!
IMG_5787

Erika’s due date is next week and we are all SO excited for them. Caioti has a salad on the menu that is rumored to induce labor! I was so excited that Erika ordered it. Hope it works!

Today, after work, I went for a 3 mile hike. It has been months since I hiked this trail and it felt SO good to get back at it again.
IMG_5790

I needed a little bit of nature today.  A good way to start off the week.
IMG_5791

Plus I got to wear my Ragnar shirt. Yippee!!

IMG_5792

After a quick stop at Trader Joes, I threw together a dinner of “whatever I felt like”. And it was awesome.
IMG_5794

PB&J, Cantaloupe, spinach with a drizzle of honey… and two pickles for good measure. Hit. The. Spot.
IMG_5796

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rewind to earlier…. I made the perfect sandwich. The right amount of peanut butter, the perfect scoop of Jelly…. And then this happened.
IMG_5789
Ever try to clean up shattered glass mixed with sticky jam? Not easy and not fun, but these things happen. I appropriately hashtagged it “#MustBeMonday”. (Is ‘hashtagged’ a verb? It is, right?)
Do you still keep in touch with your High School friends?
I love mine and I’m so glad we stayed close. I miss them!
Good Nights End with Menchies May 15, 2011
Last night, Irving and I went out for dinner (We had a groupon for a great Mexican place in burbank!) Before we ordered I asked Irving he wanted to try Yogurtland with me. I’ve never had it before. So I ordered a salad with the hopes of balancing it out with Fro-Yo. But when we walked by it after, there were hoards of kids and it was claustrophobic in there so decided against it. I was totally bummed. I wanted dessert!
We did a little shopping at Old Navy, Bed Bath and Beyond and Target when I got a text message from my friend Erica! She wanted to know if we wanted to meet at Menchies in a few minutes! YES. PLEASE!
It was fate! We chatted for almost an hour about LA, travel and beyond. So fun!
I had the Reece’s Peanut Butter cup (with crumbled reeces on top (and some other stuff). YUM!
Erica snapped this picture of the two of us. Thanks!!
Such a great night. I love menchies.
Bean Burgers & A Bookstore May 13, 2011
Irving and I won’t see each other much for the next two weeks, so we decided to make tonight special and go on a date. We’ve been married for almost two years, but I still like to go out on dates once in a while. I even made Irving open my car door for me <— That makes it officially a date.
I even got all fancy and put fake silver earrings on. I go on dates in STYLE, people.
IMG_5764
IMG_5765
We headed over to Montrose, which is a cute little neighborhood off the least used highway in California. Seriously, there is never any traffic on the 2. Gorgeous!
IMG_5766
Our destination was The Black Cow Café. We’ve had a coupon for ages and decided it was about time to use it. (We are not ashamed!)
IMG_5767
This place was AWESOME! It felt like a restaurant straight out of a movie. You could totally picture two random strangers bumping into each other here and sipping coffee for hours (they hand drip all their coffee!) It was so cute and everyone seemed to know everyone else.
IMG_5769
Right when we sat down, we were presented with some Ah-Mazing bread. It was doughy and had the most delicious seasonings on it. (We even asked for seconds).
IMG_5768
Our waiter, Victor, was probably the best waiter I’ve ever had in my life. He was funny, to the point, and offered great suggestions. I ordered the Black Bean burger. He asked what I’d like on the side: “Fries, Soup, Caesar Salad or House Salad”. I told him caesar salad. He shook his head and said “nope, go with the house salad, you will love it”. Ok house salad it is!
IMG_5770
Victor, you were right, it was epic. It had sprouts, rasins, sunflower seeds, chinese noodles. And the dressing. Oh, the dressing. They make them all in house. Perfection.
The burger was great too. I don’t order veggie burgers often (ok, this was my first time EVER ordering a veggie burger), but it was really great. It tasted like a falafel.
Irving got the meatloaf sandwich that he devoured in about 15 seconds. Victor brought him ranch to dip his fries in and instructed him to mix some hot sauce in it. Well when he walked by and noticed Irving hadn’t mixed the hot sauce in it yet, he gave him a stern look and Irving got scared and mixed it in. You should have seen Irving’s face light up when he tasted it. He declared it “out of this world”. Yea. We’re going back to this place for SURE.
IMG_5771
Then we took our party to Pasadena where we walked around a little bit. Our first stop was Distant Lands (our favorite travel book store in Los Angeles). We were on a mission to find a travel book for our trip to Europe. We LOVE the DK Eyewitness series, so we quickly found what we were looking for. We bought the Eastern Europe book. I’m so excited to read through it!
DK Eyewitness Travel Guide Eastern and Central EuropeDK Eyewitness Travel Guide Germany
They probably thought I was weird, but I was so excited to take a picture in front of their bookcases.
Travel + Books = LOVE!
After walking around Pasadena a bit more, we headed back home. Date night was a success.
Any suggestions for things to do/see in Germany?
LA Galaxy with J&J May 9, 2011
Saturday night, we took Jake and Janie to an LA Galaxy game (sort of a late Christmas gift!) We got to the stadium really early and had fun walking around before the action started.
LA Galaxy (1)
Instead of watching the game from our seats, we had reservations at the Stadium Club!
LA Galaxy (3)
LA Galaxy (4)
They had a great buffet and the food was amazing. Everything was fresh and tasted homemade.
LA Galaxy (2)
LA Galaxy (6)
Our seats were pretty good too. A neat perspective on the game.
LA Galaxy (7)
Irving loved it. He’s a huge soccer fan, remember?
LA Galaxy (5)
Rumor has it that Leonardo DiCaprio was at the game too. They showed him on the big monitor, so I whipped my binoculars out (not kidding) and tried to find him, but I guess he was hiding.
LA Galaxy (8)
The game ended at 1-1.
LA Galaxy (10)
Hi David Beckham, you looked dapper at the Royal Wedding!
In other news from the weekend, we saw Jay Leno on Saturday at Menchies! He pulled up in an old Bentley and parked right next to me!
DSCN7068
He said hi, got his ice cream and left. Just a typical Saturday living in LA. We were with Erika and Timmy and Jake and Janie too, it was fun to see a celeb so up close and personal.
Yesterday, we had brunch at Porto’s in Burbank (so good!) We sat outside and dined al fresco. It was so relaxing and nice.
Yesterday, we both felt a little blah. Just not motivated, a little sluggish and sad. Clearly, we were lacking endorphins. So we laced up our sneakers, gave ourselves a pep talk, and headed out for a four mile walk. Muuuuuch better. The fresh air and exercise were just what we needed to end a great weekend on a high note.
Happy Monday!
