Health Magazine’s Girls Night Out May 6, 2011

Every year, Health Magazine hosts a ‘Girls Night Out’. It is an event featuring massages, cocktails and products just for women. The night ends with an advanced screening of the newest chick flick coming to theaters. This was my EIGHTH time attending Girls Night Out (wow, have I really been out in LA that long?) and every time it’s been an awesome night.

When I got there, it really wasn’t very crowded. I looked for some of my friends, but since it starts so early, many of them couldn’t make it.

Girls Night Out became Girl Night Out. It’s much more fun with friends, but I made the best of it.
IMG_5724

I jumped right into the massage line and didn’t have to wait at all. It was only ten minutes, but it felt so good! That’s definitely my favorite part!
IMG_5725

Then I hopped around to the sponsors and scored a few products. Seattle’s Best Coffee had sample packs of all their blends. We’re running out of K-Cups at home, so I’m really excited about this!

I also got some Vitamins and a Pedometer from Vitafusion. And a gym towel from Asics.
IMG_5727

I really like Asics and was hoping to win the giftcard for some new shoes, but it wasn’t my lucky night.

They had an open bar with a signature cocktail, but I grabbed a Sparkling Water instead.

I waited and waited and waited for some food (they had free appetizers, but you had to order them, and apparently they only had one cook back there? I finally gave up after a half hour or so and decided I didn’t really need potato skins anyways.

But I did use my voucher for free popcorn and drink. Popcorn counts as dinner, right?

The movie was Something Borrowed, which I LOVED!

It was funny and cute and entertaining. Very well cast and the story is excellent. It didn’t feel like your typical chick flick. It was REALLY good and I highly recommend it.

Ginnifer Goodwin carries the movie. She’s an amazing actress. I loved her in Big Love but this is just such a great role for her.

And Colin Egglesfield —well, let’s just say he’s easy on the eyes.

If anyone wants to see it, I’d definitely go again!

Pretending to be a Grown Up

I got out of work early today and when I left I was full of energy and ready to take on the world. It was only 1pm. I could run, blog, watch TV, eat… anything really! But then reality set in. I didn’t have a free afternoon at all! Just a long list of errands to run. Oh well, at least it frees my weekend up right?

  1. Clean out Rosie so she (not me) can vacuum my whole house. SCORE!
  2. Donate a few bags of stuff to Goodwill (actually, it wasn’t Goodwill, but a store just like it)
  3. Bring our bottles, glass and paper to the recycling center
    IMG_5731
  4. Get gas at Costco
  5. Pick up a few things at Target
  6. Go to Lens Crafters and have them fix my sunglasses that literally just broke today
  7. Quick grocery shop trip at Fresh & Easy
  8. Make a Meal Plan for the week
  9. Change out our air filter (it’s AC season in Los Angeles. Ew).
The old one is on the left and the new one is on the right. Gross, huh?
    IMG_5733

Not bad for a Friday, right? I came home at 4pm and made a PB&J sandwich – with pickles, obviously!

I may have had an afternoon of being a grown up, but I can still enjoy kid meals like this!

Did you know VOSS has sparkling water? I scored this for free and wouldn’t pay such an insane amount for water, but man, this was GOOD water!

Now I can officially celebrate the WEEKEND!

Nike 2011 – I’m in! May 4, 2011

It’s official. I’ll be running the Nike Women’s (Half) Marathon in October for the 7th time! I’m a sucker for tradition and I’m thrilled to run the streets of San Francisco again.

Any other great summer races coming up? 5k? 10k?

Craft Night with the Girls! May 3, 2011

I got lots of pictures of the crafts, but none of “the girls”! So sad!

A few of my college friends started a monthly craft/sewing night where we can get together, chat, and get creative. It’s so much fun.
IMG_5698

There was four of us tonight and everyone did something different. It’s fun to be inspired by the talent of your friends.
IMG_5692 IMG_5691

I did a few sewing projects that have been waiting for some TLC for a couple of YEARS!
IMG_5693

Finally fixed the handle on this purse! YAY!
IMG_5694

And sewed on a few missing beads from this shirt!
IMG_5695

And stitched up my table cloth bag! (what, don’t your table cloths have bags?)
IMG_5697

A few years ago, my sister gave me a craft kit for Christmas, and inside were treasures from my grandmother’s sewing items from “the olden days”. haha I love it so much, it’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever got.

Check this out…
IMG_5700

Inside are sewing needles and I adore them.
IMG_5701

But seriously, my favorite part is looking at where she bought some of the threads! Ames and Zayres!
Remember those stores? That was before Target and Walmart came waltzing in.
IMG_5706

Someday I’ll actually learn how to sew something worthwhile. It’s daunting to think about, but when I’m ready, I’ll tackle it.

IMG_5707

The night ended with a homemade cupcake. Devine.

Thanks for hosting such a fun night, Jenn!

Do you remember any of these stores?

I Golfed 18 Holes! May 2, 2011

First of all, is ‘golfed’ a word? Doesn’t that sound funny?

Sunday, Irving and I drove two hours to Temecula to golf with Jake and Janie. It was another perfect day in Southern California. If they keep giving us days like these, we are never going to leave! I rarely golf, and have never actually finished 18 holes before. But this weekend I did and it was awesome!
IMG_5675

But let’s back up. Before I played, Irving played 18 holes on his own first!
IMG_5672

While he golfed…
IMG_5670

I got to drive the golfcart and read my favorite magazine!
IMG_5680

Eeek! The only bad thing about livin’ in the southwest:
IMG_5671

IMG_5673

He had a great round (that included a lunch stop at the 9th stop). Mmm!
IMG_5681

Then it was my turn to play too! I came prepared.
IMG_5683

We had a fivesome: Irving, me, Jake, Janie and Janie’s Dad!
IMG_5686

IMG_5684

I played all 18 holes without complaining. And I actually really enjoyed it. I hit a lot of great shots (and every shot except for 1 went straight where I wanted it to go. YAY!) But by the 18th hole, I was happy to be done. I think golf courses should be 14 holes. That would be perfect.

IMG_5687

And every time I see a golf course, I can’t help but wonder how nice it would be to spread out a blanket, have a picnic and read a book all afternoon on the greens. This grass is just BEGGING to be laid on! But I resisted.
IMG_5689

It was a lovely day with family, the perfect Sunday.
