Egypt: A Nation in Need February 3, 2011

Filed under: Cairo — Kelocity @ 8:20 am

I just can’t believe all the chaos going on in Egypt right now. First Russia, now Egypt. I noticed the corruption, sadness and frustration when I went just three months ago. But I never expected anything like this to happen. In general, the people we came into contact with were just desperate for a better life. Yea the street beggers and souvenir vendors are aggressive, but as a tourist, it comes with the territory. When you dig a little deeper, you see people who are just trying to make a living in a country that offers them no help. Although the deaths and devastation are a tragedy, I really do hope that something good comes off the protests. They deserve a government who will help build their nation, celebrate their history and encourage economic and social growth.

This is what the Egypt museum looks like this week:

And this is me in front of it just a few short months ago:

I’m crossing my fingers for them so that they can enjoy peace once again and my kids can visit a new Egypt some day.

I know there’s drama going around in the blog world about ‘Teen Mom’. But I personally love the show from a pure entertainment standpoint. I think it’s sad these girls have to deal with these huge life issues at such a young age. And I know they’re partly being exploited by doing so (they make a decent paycheck by doing the show). But it also makes me more confident in my own future parenting skills someday.

Anyways, at the end of each episode, this picture comes up as part of the credits:

It makes me laugh every time I see it. Last summer, Irving and I went golfing with Erika and Timmy and we took almost the same picture!

Doesn’t it look almost the same?! Sometimes it’s nice to keep the mid-day posts light, what can I say.

I’m working on getting some more of my Oscar pictures up in the next week or so. Stay tuned!

Grapefruit Salad… Genius! February 1, 2011

Sometimes, Irving and I eat at our desks in our office. It’s not ideal, but can be productive. We go over our calendars and lineup upcoming events, discuss emails and sometimes, just catch up on TV shows. Tonight, I looked over and said “What are you eating?”

He’s like “Oh, a salad! It has lettuce, tomato, cucumber, olives, Munster cheese slices, and some grapefruit.” Good choice on the grapefruit! That looks good!

He can inhale a Costco-sized pack of Reeces in three minutes flat, but he also knows how to assemble a mean salad. It’s all about balance, people.

I totally had grapefruit envy. Might have to have some for breakfast tomorrow.

We booked our next trip tonight!! This fall, we will be heading to Eastern Europe with Contiki! This will be our 4th time traveling with them, I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a no-stress tour.

The Hollywood Dream

When Irving and I moved out to Los Angeles, we had no jobs, no cars and no plan. We had a rented minivan full of stuff and one-room studio apartment that was steps away from Hollywood Blvd. Our address was located in ‘Hollywood, California’. My relatives back in Boston just thought that was the coolest thing in the world. We had three un-employed months of Southern California Bliss. We were sleeping on a futon mattress, sipping mimosas at noon, and soaking in the glitz of Hollywood.

Just a few short weeks after moving out here, we got invited to attend the 2005 Oscars — on the RED CARPET! We couldn’t believe how lucky we were. We got all glammed up and waited to mingle with the stars!

Welcome to Hollywood, Kelley and Irving!

I have lots more pics of celebs from that day. Let me know if you’re interested and I can roll them out little by little.

If you could meet one celebrity, who would it be? I used to want to meet Prince William.

Mountains of Snow!

This morning, I tried to get a bit of upper body strength in. I put on the Today Show and got down to business with my 5lb weights:

  • Rows 15×2 each
  • Bicep Curls 15 x2
  • Overhead Tricep Dips 15 x 2
  • Pushups (girl style) x 20
  • Chest Press 15×2
  • Crunches x 50

The big story on the news today is all that snow the east coast is being pounded with. I just can’t believe all the bad weather they got over there this year. It’s already February and they are expecting another two feet of snow by tomorrow! The reporters keep talking about all the freezing temperatures across the country… and then they show LA and it’s 72, 74, 75, sunny, sunny, sunny. We live in a bubble out here.

My mom told me she can’t see her neighbors over the snowbanks, they just hold up their shovels and wave to each other that way. Hopefully they have an amazing spring and summer to make up for all this white stufff!

The Today Show screwed up today and they left Al’s microphone on too long and we could hear him saying “What? What should I say next? Who do I toss this next segment to? Matt?” I always think this is hilarious when it happens because I used to work in a newsroom. Anyways, happy Tuesday!
