A Puree Party January 1, 2013

This week was a huge milestone week for Adele. In just a few days, she has outgrown her 3-6 month clothes, started babbling (she says “DADADADA” and “GOOGOOGOO”!!) No ‘mama’ yet though, no fair.

And she also started to try some purees!

We’re still doing Baby Led Weaning, but we have to introduce purees because her daycare won’t do the real food approach. My mom cooked up some butternut squash and I mashed it all up and put it in 1 oz containers. She got new baby spoons for Christmas and I think she was a fan! She had never had squash before but she loved it. (But there isn’t anything she’s tried yet that she didn’t like!)

If we can’t do real food at daycare, the next best thing is fresh, homemade food. At least we still know exactly what she’s getting that way. Even though she is only 6.5 months old, she still held the spoon on her own and knew exactly what to do with it. We were all impressed.

Grammie was so proud to feed her too.

My family was also amazed at how well behaved she is at the table when we’re eating. We credit that 100% to Baby Led Weaning. She sits patiently and entertains herself while we eat.

Once we feel confident in our purees, we’ll switch back to BLW when we’re with her so she has both each day. (Purees for lunch and real food for dinner).

Anyone else try this hybrid approach? Any suggestions?

Here’s the Fall 2012 Collection of the Art by Adele. She’s quite talented if I don’t say so myself.

That’s one major bonus of daycare: awesome art projects. Keep em coming, Adele. Mommy loves them.

Christmas Day, we all went over to my sister Mikaela’s house for lunch and some gifts! Adele was able with her BFF Gizmo too.

We had an awesome Italian feast cooked by Mikaela and her future mother-in-law, Nancy! As a reward, she got to hold Adele for a while, I think she was happy to do so. (Hi, Nancy!) Dinner was fantastic.

And then we toasted to the future Mr & Mrs with some wine from the vineyard they are getting married at. We’re all looking forward to their wedding next year!

Sorry Adele… you have 21 more years til you can have a sip.

We waited a few more days to do all our gifts so everyone could be there, but we were all too excited to wait for Adele’s. So she got to open all her presents early.

Hi, pretty girl!

She got so many nice things from everyone! Toys, clothes, feeding supplies, games, ornaments! She also got a pillow pet, a CD where all the songs are about ‘Adele’, and a story book where my parents recorded their voices reading it so Adele can hear them when we read it together (I know, I almost cried!) Lots of thoughtful gifts for my little girl. I say it again, she is so lucky.

She was in such a great mood all day long. I love her excited expression! She smiles with her whole face now!

The party continued over my aunt’s house. That’s become a fun tradition. We eat desserts and play games. There’s always a mean game of ‘Left, Right, Center‘ to be played. This year, Michelle reigned champion!

Adele had an awesome first Christmas.

And maybe had too much fun. All the excitement tuckered her out and she fell asleep on Grammie. The perfect end to a perfect day.

The Princess and the Pea December 21, 2012

Adele sleeps really well through the night. She falls asleep easily in her crib and stays there for 12-13 hours straight.

But naps. That’s a whole different story. She naps great at Daycare, but when the weekends roll around, she only sleeps in the car, in the stroller or strapped into the carrier on either Irving or I. She doesn’t nap in the crib. [To her defense, we really haven’t put in my effort to make her try….]

To her, naptime = playtime and she laughs and plays for an hour doing this:

But this weekend, we figured it out. She just wanted to nap in mom & dad’s bed instead!

She slept like that for 3 hours Sunday afternoon! Apparently she just needs pillows and a duvet cover to catch her Zzzz’s! File that one under #spoiled.
