Recently, Tina at CarrotsNCake had a blogger bake sale to raise money for kids in low-income areas to get health and fitness education. It definitely seemed like a good enough cause, and I was really just doing my part by bidding on some amazing cookies. When all was said and done, I won some Orange Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies from Kaitlin with Honey! Actually, they were made by her roommate, Mark. I was so excited!

And today, they were hand delivered by the baker himself!

Oh my gosh, they were all packaged up so cute!

Let me tell you, we love cookies. Our house currently has this hidden away in the pantry:

But Irving declared these cookies “even better than milano”.
They were soft, chewy and full of chocolate chunks and orange flavored goodness.

Thanks Kaitlin and Mark, these were incredible. And you should consider selling them. They are just perfect!

30 Day Challenge–15 More Things May 26, 2011

Irving made the most delicious chicken soup today from scratch. Man, it is the healthiest soup and it really does cure everything from a common cold to a bad day. I have to get his recipe to share.

After indulging in the soup and an episode of Secret Life (I can’t wait for the season finale next week!) I headed out for a walk around the neighborhood. I used a new Android app called Runkeeper. It’s pretty neat! I have a Garmin that pretty much does the same thing, but this was really convenient. (It is a battery drain on the phone though).

In about an hour, I walked 3.5 miles.

And while I walked, I completely cleaned out my google reader. Whew! Multitasking!

Continuing on with the 30 Day Challenge, here’s part two of my 30 Things About Me. (Here’s the first half!)

  1. When I lived in Europe, I worked in our school dining hall clearing tables and setting up placemats. (What? Didn’t your college have placemats?)  I got paid an American salary but in Euro currency. At the time, when the dollar was strong, this was a major deal!
  2. My engagement ring includes a family diamond with an incredible story behind it. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of the strength, success and love of my husband’s family. Perhaps I’ll save the story for another post.

  3. I bite my nails. But I kinda wish I didn’t.
  4. I think it’s incredible to watch my closest friends becoming moms. It makes me feel lucky to be surrounded by such strong women.
  5. In 2000, Ashley and I got backstage passes to a Blink 182 concert and we got to hang out with the band before the show.

  6. The above pictures were decoupaged onto an awesome jewelry box that Ashley made for me in High School. It stands proud on my bookshelf!

  7. My mom has a home video of me scooping up sand in the backyard. When she asked me what I was making, I answered "A Tuna Sandwich". True Story.
  8. I’m 1/4 Lebanese, 1/4 Polish, 1/4 Italian and 1/4 Native American (I’m told it was the Micmac tribe from Canada?)
  9. My dad built a "Beer Wagon" from scratch when I was little. It’s the only life-size replica of the model car in the world.

  10. I took six years of Latin, three years of Classical Greek, one year of Italian and one semester of Arabic. I really love learning different languages! Spanish is next on my list!
  11. I don’t watch a lot of TV in general, but we do get some shows on Netflix and save some on the Tivo. My favorites are: Big Love, Weeds, Entourage, The Amazing Race, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team, and of course, The Secret Life of the American Teenager!
  12. I used to play the piano and the flute, but now I don’t even remember how to read music!

  13. My happy place is Lake Winnipesaukee. I grew up going there in the summer. I love boating, swimming, tubing and walking on the boardwalk. It is definitely my favorite place to visit in the whole world. It’s so peaceful, gorgeous and full of fun, happy memories for me. It was an easy decision to get married up there. Don’t you just want to jump right in??

  14. My favorite Disney movie is “The Little Mermaid”.
  15. My middle name is Lynne. Kelley Lynne.

Operation Beautiful: Spreading the Smiles May 24, 2011

I was tagged by Katherine at LeftCoastContessa.com to do a post about Operation Beautiful. Operation Beautiful is a campaign about “transforming the way you see yourself one post-it note at a time”.

Here are the rules of today’s post!
1. Smile!
I always smile! There is always something worth smiling about.

2. Write 3 things you like about your looks.
This feels a little silly to talk vainly about “my looks”. But in the spirit of operation beautiful, here we go:
1.) My hair when it’s blow dried. I usually wear my hair up, but I do like how it looks when I take the time to blow it straight.
2.) My triceps when they’re toned. It’s one of the easiest muscles to see results in, and when I work at them a little bit, they give me instant gratification that lifting weights is worth it.
3.) My smile. I come from a family of dentists, and we take pride in teeth. A few of my teeth have moved since I had braces, and someday I’d like to correct it, but I still love it, even with its imperfections.

3. Write 3 things you appreciate about your personality.
1.) My eagerness to make friends. I sometimes feel awkward in groups, and worry in my head that I’m saying something dumb, but I still have confidence to go out there and meet new friends. The hard part is deciding to do it.
2.) My thick skin. For the most part, I’m able to brush things off, and take life with a grain of salt.
3.) My Boston accent. It fades a little since I live in California now, but when I get excited, passionate or mad about something, it comes out and I love it. 🙂 It’s a piece of who I am!

4. Write about something you find beautiful in other people (looks, personality – whatever)
I love when you see people recognize their passion, grab hold of their dreams and set off to achieve them. It’s inspiring to see other people succeed. I am also seeing the beauty of watching my friends become parents lately. If that’s not inspiring, I don’t know what is!

5. Award as many other people as you like and let them know!
I’m tagging Erica and Sarah! Take it away!

Where’d The Weekend Go? May 16, 2011

I had a fabulous weekend, but it went much too fast. On Saturday, I participated in Race/LA. It’s like The Amazing Race but it all takes place in one day in Los Angeles. If you love scavenger hunt/adventure races, definitely check it out. I’ve been working for them for six years! A few times a year they have the full day events and they are SO much fun.
IMG_5774

I hand out clues at certain stations around the city. Each stop has a clue with some kind of task they have to complete before moving on to the next one. It’s a ton of fun! I’ve never run the race as a competitor, but someday I really want to!
IMG_5775

On Sunday, my friend Courtney came to visit! We went to High School together and don’t get to hang out very often, so it was awesome to spend the whole day together!
IMG_5779

We did the usual touristy things around Hollywood: Mann’s Chinese Theater, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Sign, celeb stalking, etc. It was so much fun. Sometimes it’s easy to forget we actually live here! I love exploring this town and having friends to do it with!
IMG_5780

IMG_5778

Doesn’t this look like a tropical island or something? It was actually the Hollywood Reservoir! Who knew!

IMG_5781

IMG_5782

Since it rained Saturday night, the skies were so clear on Sunday. We could see all the way to the ocean from up in the Hollywood Hills.
IMG_5785

For lunch, we met up with Erika and Timmy too! We ate at Caioti Pizza in Tujunga Village. I love my high school friends!
IMG_5787

Erika’s due date is next week and we are all SO excited for them. Caioti has a salad on the menu that is rumored to induce labor! I was so excited that Erika ordered it. Hope it works!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today, after work, I went for a 3 mile hike. It has been months since I hiked this trail and it felt SO good to get back at it again.
IMG_5790
I needed a little bit of nature today.  A good way to start off the week.
IMG_5791
Plus I got to wear my Ragnar shirt. Yippee!!
IMG_5792
After a quick stop at Trader Joes, I threw together a dinner of “whatever I felt like”. And it was awesome.
IMG_5794
PB&J, Cantaloupe, spinach with a drizzle of honey… and two pickles for good measure. Hit. The. Spot.
IMG_5796
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rewind to earlier…. I made the perfect sandwich. The right amount of peanut butter, the perfect scoop of Jelly…. And then this happened.
IMG_5789

Ever try to clean up shattered glass mixed with sticky jam? Not easy and not fun, but these things happen. I appropriately hashtagged it “#MustBeMonday”. (Is ‘hashtagged’ a verb? It is, right?)

Do you still keep in touch with your High School friends?
I love mine and I’m so glad we stayed close. I miss them!

Things I Love… May 10, 2011

Pineapple/Coconut Juice
This lovely taste of heaven is 100% juice. I feel like I’m on a tropical island when I drink it. It’s sweet and refreshing. Not easy on the calorie scale, but it tastes like dessert anyways, so why not, right? I’ve been having it in place of dessert this week. So I guess it evens out.
IMG_5126

One Pan Meals
As I said before, we don’t “cook”, we “assemble”. And one-pan meals make it happen. I love a good stirfry with easy cleanup.
IMG_5128

Candles that Smell like Cupcakes
IMG_5758

Fun Socks
It’s rare that I wear socks that aren’t dri-fit, so when I do, I enjoy being cozy in them!
I’ve had these since High School!
IMG_5761

His & Hers
Beer and Root Beer
IMG_5759

Coming home to vacuumed floors…
…that the Roomba vacuumed for you! Winning!
