Ringing in the New Year January 1, 2014

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kelocity @ 7:19 am

When my friends asked me what I was doing for New Years this week I told them all I was hanging out with my mom and going to bed at 9pm. And that’s exactly what I did. And then at 12:01am as the East Coast was ringing in the New year, Adele woke up yelling “Mama! Down!” She was wide awake. My mom and I alternated picking her up, rubbing her back and trying to get her to fall back asleep. Eventually I dragged her into bed with me, which to her meant playtime. We were lying there in the dark and she was talking up a storm.

“Cookie?” –no baby, it is the middle of the night. No cookies.

“Milk?” –here, have a sip of water. “Milk?” And she practically pushed me out of bed so I would get her some. “Cookie?” No cookie. Just milk.

“Daddy?” — yep, we will see daddy tomorrow, but we have to go to bed first. And then she made the ‘shhh’ sound. That’s right, we have to be quiet and sleep.

“YODEL-DEE YODEL” Adele, grammie and grandpa are sleeping. Go to sleep.

Eventually I strapped her into the Ergo and walked around the dark, quiet house. She slept on me into the wee hours of the morning. Just the two of us enjoying the first moments of 2014. No one else I would rather celebrate with (except irving of course).

Being a parent is tough sometimes, but when there are snuggles to be had, I will take it. Happy new year!

Scenes from Christmas Vacation December 29, 2013

Psst! I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m terrified to be entering the Toddler-Era now! I am feeling a little lost and a lot afraid. Read more about my thoughts over at What to Expect today! And send me ‘good luck’ vibes and words of advice in the comments below!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We’re having a blast relaxing at Grammie and Grandpa’s house this week. Adele is enjoying all of the attention from everyone, and I’m relishing the fact that I haven’t had to change a diaper or wash a sippy cup since I’ve been here! Score! I’ve been going to bed early, reading magazines, watching movies and seeing friends. The perfect Christmas vacation indeed.
Adele’s been busy playing Play-Dough, creating MarbleWorks masterpieces and reading lots and lots of books. She’s in heaven.
I’m so glad both Irving’s mom and my mom saved some of the toys we played with when we were little. I have a post coming about that soon. But Adele is having so much fun playing with primary colored, non-musical toys. (With a little Cabbage Patch doll and Matchbox car action mixed in there as well for good measure!)
I think “Baking with her Granddaughter” has been on Grammie’s bucket list since Adele was born. Today, we made that wish come true. I don’t know who had more fun.
They started small, with some basic Pillsbury sugar cookies. Over the years, these two chefs plan to graduate to more complicated culinary adventures. But for today, it was all about Frosty and Santa.
Then we waited for our cookie masterpieces to come out of the oven.
And like all great chefs, Adele found out that half of cooking is doing the dishes!
I have to say, Adele’s Christmas Cookies are going to be the hit of Christmas Eve dinner! Get em’ while they’re hot!
Unlucky 21 December 22, 2013
Yesterday, Adele and I were slated to fly to Boston for the holidays. I had been somewhat dreading it for weeks. Keeping a toddler happy and quiet on your lap (with zero legroom) for six hours is miserable! But I was armed with tricks to get us through. Our flight was supposed to leave at 1p. Adele fell asleep on me before I got thru security and I was in good spirits!
image
Right before we should have boarded they announced our flight would be almost 6 hours delayed! Apparently we didn’t have a plane and they had to send one from the east coast! Whaaaat? We found a quiet corner and hunkered down.
image
A tea tin with a few plastic rings, two books and two mini tubs of play – doh kept her busy for five hours. She is the best.
Once it was time to board, she was worn out and I had high hopes she would sleep…we had a seat in the last row. She was happy. Then it all went downhill…kicking seats, thwoing books, screaming…
I tried for three hours to get her to sleep. Mostly using the ergo. There was a reason I was trying to avoid a red eye! This stinks. She was not only fighting sleep, she was fighting me! Hitting, yelling “no no no” over and over. At one point I just stood in the back doing squats while bouncing….and sobbing. Haha what else can you do? Finally she passed out and slept on me for the last 3 hours.
Somehow we made it. 6 hours late. Unlucky flight #21 for her.
But we are here! Excited for the week ahead!
