Happy Easter!!! Easter is slowly becoming one of my favorite holidays. I love the traditions, the start of spring, and the promise of a great year ahead. Of course I always miss my family on Easter, but we’re starting to form our own little traditions out here in LA and it’s becoming a special weekend to us.

EASTER LAST YEAR:

EASTER THIS YEAR:

Easter morning, Adele woke up and Irving played with her in her room for an hour or so before I got up. Then we were excited to show Adele what the Easter Bunny brought for her! She was pretty excited!

It’s funny how babies know new toys when they see them. She was fascinated by the eggs.
IMG_1020And then we showed her that there were Puffs inside the eggs and from that moment on, she knew the Easter Bunny was her BFF.
IMG_1022

Because this lucky lady is going to Hawaii soon, the Easter Bunny brought her gifts in a new shiny teal pail! How did he know that Teal was mom’s favorite color too? That guy is smart.

IMG_1027

So what did the EB put inside that pail?
Easter2

An Easter Book, a new bath toy and some Wooden Toy Cars! I think they were all a hit! We spent a while playing with the new toys and opening as many eggs as we could.

Easter

And since it wouldn’t be easter without actually meeting the Easter Bunny himself, we decided to try again to go visit him on his farm! I was determined to get a picture with the bunny no matter what! So I invited some friends and we made the 40 minute drive to Underwood Family Farms to find that rabbit!

Note: Find friends that bring Bunny Ears on adventures. It’s worth it, trust me.
IMG_1028

When we got to the farm, it was overcast, but we figured that was better than sun, so we didn’t think anything of it. We had a blast looking at all the fun animals on the farm.
IMG_1033

Old Macdonald had a…. peacock?
IMG_1036

And then it was time to go find the Easter Bunny! …… But it started raining. At first, a few drops, then a light drizzle. So we hunkered down under a tent for a little bit waiting for the skies to clear.

IMG_1038
We waited an hour, chatting, feeding the babies, drinking coffee and hanging out.
IMG_1041

When the rain let up, we looked outside and tried to run towards the bunny!
IMG_1059

And then it started pouring again, so we retreated back to our tent. We kept peeking out seeing the miserable bunny sitting in the rain.
IMG_1044

Then the skies would clear for a few minutes and we’d head back out again. This time, we knocked on the bunny’s door (literally… we knocked), hoping he’d come out so we could get our stupid picture and go home.
IMG_1066Did you know the Easter Bunny lives in a pink house in the middle of a field? Well he does.

Then some other little kids came over, and they knocked too… but the bunny didn’t come out. Can’t say I blame him really. But I was mad. Two attempts to visit the farm, we came |thisclose| to getting our dumb picture, and then we had to surrender. The 2013 Easter Bunny picture just wasn’t going to happen.
IMG_1060Adele was sad too, can’t you tell?

Maybe I’ll photoshop the bunny in to make myself feel better.
IMG_1066 copyUm, that doesn’t make me feel better… at all.

But all jokes aside, we had an awesome day with our friends. Definitely a day we will never forget. Those poor babies were soaked and hungry, and poor Lisa’s stroller will never be the same again after riding through a muddy farm. But we lived to talk about it and it was so much fun.
IMG_1069

But the EB better watch his back, he may have escaped this imd, but Toddler Adele will seek justice next year, just you watch.
IMG_1096

I can’t remember who bought this beautiful dress for Adele, but I LOVE it. Lace makes my heart melt. It’s size 12 months too! I can’t believe it! Happy First Easter, Adele!

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

Saturday was such a fun day and it totally made up for the quiet day we had on Friday. Irving, Adele and I joined seven other babies and friends for a day at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. There were twenty-four of us total! The aquarium employees were impressed that we all drove down to the South Bay to visit. (Totally worth the drive, by the way).
IMG_0927

It’s not an exceptionally large aquarium, but they had a few really fun exhibits that we all thought were pretty neat. For example, check out this new adorable breed of fish that has just been discovered!
Aquarium

Hardy, har har. But seriously, there were some really neat things that even I have never seen before. They had the usual octopus, seahorses and starfish, but I was most impressed by the baby sharks! Not only did they have actual baby sharks… but they had an exhibit where you could see live shark eggs…. AND see them forming inside! The eggs are a little transparent, so you could view them at each stage of gestation. It was really cool.
IMG_0926

The kids all liked the big tanks where they could gaze in wonder at the little fishies swimming by.

And of course, the dads had to climb into the viewing tunnel to view them from the inside too!

Even the littlest kids enjoyed the touch tide-pool!

After we had our fill of educational things, we enjoyed some sunshine on the beach! There’s a cute little playground with swings and slides right on the sand! So fun!

By then, we had worked up quite an appetite and after a little googling, we found a restaurant nearby that could fit our large group on short notice. It was the Pacific Diner and they were great! We walked in and said “We’ll take all the high chairs you can give us”. They were SO accommodating.
IMG_1008

If you ever wondered what it’s like to dine at a table with EIGHT babies 5-10 months…. let me assure you that it was actually a quiet, fun and enjoyable experience. All of them were so well behaved and we had a blast hanging out with everyone. So lucky to have this wonderful group of people. Looking forward to many more adventures together as the kids grow up!

After lunch, we split off and a few of us walked the San Pedro Pier for a bit until the sun and wind was enough and then we all headed home.

I think everyone slept well that night. It was nice to get out of LA and enjoy a new neighborhood too. This city is pretty amazing.

Sick Day March 31, 2013

Filed under: Baby — Kelocity @ 9:52 pm

Last Thursday, Adele was sent home from school with a mild fever and a runny nose. I left work and we spent the afternoon together playing quietly inside. I get a little stir crazy being in the house all day, but she didn’t even want to go for a stroller walk, so I did my best to keep her comfortable and happy inside.
IMG_0888

She didn’t seem to have a cold, but she definitely wasn’t herself. She was a little whiny and wanted hugs all day.
IMG_0916Then it dawned on me. Mild Fever + Runny Nose + Whiny Baby = TWO NEW TOP TEETH! Poor girl! She cut two new teeth in one day! I couldn’t get a picture of them, but here’s the bottom ones!
IMG_0922

She took a few good naps and still seemed to be in good spirits. I gave her some tylenol and some cold wash cloths to chomp on and she was pretty happy with that.

Oh, and when you’re cutting two new teeth, let’s just add another milestone that same day too while we’re at it! Look who was caught standing in her crib after a 2 hour nap!
IMG_0880

That’s my girl! She never does anything half-way. She goes big or goes home. What a big girl.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day was Good Friday, so Adele didn’t have any school. Irving watched her in the morning, and I came home early to spend the rest of the day with her. I originally had plans to go to a local farm to see the Easter Bunny…. but she still wasn’t 100% so I sadly had to cancel our plans.
IMG_0900
She was an angel, but I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t pout a little because I had to stay home. Working full time is a challenge and the only way I make it work is by stealing the time with Adele when I can. We really make our weekends count. We pack them full of fun, memory-making adventures. It’s a deliberate effort on our part to ensure we enjoy Adele as much as we can. Knowing I had a half-day on Friday, I wanted to steal the extra opportunity to fit in an extra play-date and do something fun to celebrate Easter. But since she wasn’t feeling well, I had to make peace with the fact that flexibility is important and sometimes things are out of my control.
IMG_0902
Up until the hour I was supposed to leave the house, I was going back and forth trying to justify going anyways, but I knew it just wasn’t a good idea. In the end, I saw it as a blessing to be able to comfort and play with Adele at home. I did enjoy our time together nonetheless.
IMG_0905
She’s pretty much back to herself now. The extra rest did her well and her smile now contains FOUR teeth! Hard to believe how fast she is growing. She’s been cracking us up lately.
IMG_0910
Ok, now that the less-fun part of our Easter weekend is out of the way, stay tuned for all the pictures of the FUN parts we ended up doing as well! Spoiler Alert: Aquarium, Beach… and maybe the Easter Bunny. Maybe.
Three Travel Tips March 28, 2013
What’s it like to fly solo with a 9-month old baby?
photo-2
1 Checked Suitcase
1 Checked Carseat
1 Checked Stroller
1 Diaper Bag (Backpack)
1 Purse/Camera Bag
1 Baby Carrier for Hands Free travel
Piece of cake really. Somehow I managed to check in at the counter, board and ride the plane, disembark, get baggage off the carousel, take a shuttle to a rental car place, pick up a rental car, check into a hotel, check out of a hotel and drive two hours across the state of florida (and then do it all in reverse) — all by myself*. And it was surprisingly easy! Being organized is key.
You’ve seen a ton of “how to travel with baby” posts before so I won’t bore you, but here’s a few little tips I picked up along the way.
1.) When you get to a hotel, ask for a pack n’ play. Some hotels charge for these, but I asked nicely and the receptionist gave it to me for free (there was normally a $20 charge at this hotel). I also travel with my own sheets (one pack n play and one regular crib sheet if you don’t know the size ahead of time). This saved me the hassle of traveling with my own pack n’ play.
2.)  Upgrade your seat. When I got to the Jetblue counter, I asked to change my seat to one that had an empty seat next to it. On both of my legs, I lucked out with two seats for the price of one. (They didn’t charge me anything to do this). If your flight isn’t full and you’re traveling with an infant, your row will be the last one they fill.
3.) Save Those Bags! You know those huge blue Amazon sacks you get with you have a large item giftwrapped? They fit my Chicco Keyfit Caddy Stroller perfectly! My car seat goes in a travel bag that my parents gave us. Worked like a charm.
Happy Travels!
*Ok, on the way back, Aunty Laurie was there to help/’watch-Adele-So-I-Could-Get-Dunkin Donuts’ at the airport. But still. =)
