My oldest friend, Linsay, is getting married in February and this weekend was her surprise bridal shower near Boston. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world so I booked a quick trip back home for Columbus Day weekend so I could celebrate with her and see some family.

It was a GORGEOUS weekend in Boston… warm breeze and sunny skies, the perfect New England fall weather everyone always hopes for. It was just beautiful. I always wonder why people in New England put up with the cold winters… but it was weekends like this that definitely make it worth it.

First thing’s first… Linsay’s shower! There was more food than I’ve ever seen at a single party. And it was all prepared by Linsay’s aunt and mom. It was just amazing. The morning of the big party, everyone pitched in to get everything ready.

Here’s just a sampling of some of the food we had. The theme was “autumn” and everything fell right into place. It was just lovely.

A variety of homemade muffins

Scones

A Cheese Ball that was made to look like “logs” and a “pumpkin”. It was GORGEOUS.

Her colors are aqua and brown… so these cake bites were PERFECT! (And delicious!)

My mom made these. They were frosted sugar cookies made to look like bacon and eggs! SO CUTE!

Tuna Salad stuffed pastries

Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits in cute bride and groom shot glasses!

Mimosas

Cream Cheese Cups

Shrimp Cocktail in Shot Glasses

The highlight (in my opinion) These are Nilla Wafers and chocolate chips that looked like Acorns!!! How AMAZING is this?!
 IMG_0020

A cheese block that looked like a pinecone. (They thought of EVERYTHING!)
IMG_0021

Chocolate dipped spoons (for coffee) with autumn sprinkles. (Funny story, Linsay found one of these TINY sprinkles on the floor a few days before the shower and asked what they were. I think her mom made something up, but close call!)

IMG_0027 IMG_0055

You guys, there was SO much more than this. There were sandwiches, bacon, omlettes, spiral ham, potatoes, casseroles, fruit, desserts, breads, cookies, egg salad sandwiches on crackers…. you name it…it was there!

But enough about the (impressive) food spread… What about the Bride to Be!?

She was incredibly surprised, she really had NO idea!
IMG_0035

IMG_0039
She thought that her brother, his wife, she and her fiance were all going to ‘take couples pictures’ together. And she INSISTED they all wear matching black shirts and tan pants. HAHA luckily they’re  all great sports and did what she asked. It was really funny when they all showed up wearing the same thing though.

They are just adorable (Note: Nolan, her fiance, said he “forgot” his tan pants at his sister’s house, where the shower was) which was ‘why they had to stop there first’. Nice work!

My mom and Linsay’s mom have been friends for over 20 years!

Boy did she get a lot of gifts!

She is one lucky girl!

Jess did a great job with the ”Rehearsal Boquet’ with all those ribbons!

Linsay’s amazing friend Tricia (who just got engaged!)

IMG_0057

With me too!
IMG_0059

We played a few fun games including ‘dress up the bride with toilet paper, ribbon and tape.

Look at these beauties!

It was an incredible shower, they really outdid themselves. Linsay, I can’t wait for your wedding!

Cheers!

Instead of saving our top tier of our cake, our baker made us a fresh one! This worked out because we couldn’t have brought it home to LA anyways.

Mmmm!

IMG_4991

It was the same flavors as the top of our wedding cake:

  • Tier 1: Yellow cake/chocolate fudge Filling
    Tier 2: Chocolate cake/Raspberry filling
    Frosting: Buttercream frosting

Before we cut the cake, we sang “Happy Birthday to our Marriage”.
(I’ll spare you the video)!

Engagement Story Part 1:

The Decoy Dinner!

On January 19th, Irving surprised me with an “impromptu” weekend away. He told me that I couldn’t ask any questions and I had to just follow along. We drove for two hours to Palm Springs and he made me change into something nice. Then we got to our destination: the Aerial Tram up the mountains overlooking the valley in Palm Springs. It was freezing up there, there was even a few feet of snow!

The valley at the top of the Gondola. The gondola rotates 360 degrees as it
goes up. It’s the only one in the Western Hemisphere. The view was spectacular!

We had dinner at a beautiful restaurant at
the top, complete with wine and fondue! “This is it”, I thought,
“He’s going to propose!”… I was so nervous and excited. But dinner
came to an end, and there was no ring… sad.

MMmm.. at least the fondue was good!

Irving then took me to stay the night
at the same hotel we stayed at in 2005 when we moved out to LA. It was symbolic
of our success we’ve had in LA since then.

The Surprise

On January 20th, Irving’s alarm went off at 4am. He was like “Is that your
phone?” And I was said “No, I think it’s yours!” He answered: “Oh yea, that is
my phone. You have to get up and put something nice on.” I was like “You must be
joking… I’m going back to bed.” But he insisted that I get up and get dressed.
So I did. And then he drove me two hours down to Temecula, CA, which is near San
Diego. He told me that we had breakfast reservations there. But when we got to
the location, a winery, it was still dark out and I told him that the place is
obviously closed and that he was realllly early. He then admitted that he had
lied, and that in a few minutes, a truck was going to pick us up and take us up
in a Hot Air Balloon ride! I was so excited. For real?!?! Is that dangerous? I
was so excited! When the truck pulled up, it was still dark out, and we watched
the sun rise as they put the balloons together.

Watching the sun rise over the baskets!

Guess who’s excited?!?!

There were two balloon rides that day, but one basket was just for us! Irving
had chartered the “sweetheart balloon” that would take us up on a private
flight!!

That’s our balloon all packed up and ready for us!

The sun was rising while the balloons were inflating!

Look how cute he is! He must have been so nervous and excited!

The two baskets getting ready to be launched!

Unraveling the balloons!

Balloons being laid out and ready to go! (That was our pilot, Tim!)

Filling it up with cold air!

Irving, watching the sun rise, with the first balloon in the background!

This is actually a shot from the top of the balloon, peeking through to the
bottom as it was filling up! These balloons were Huge!

Look how big it is! Aren’t we cute at 6am?

Filling it up with hot air. The hot air is what actually makes it rise up.

On it’s way up!

Me, very excited for my first Hot Air Balloon ride! YAY!

Moments away…

This is actually us INSIDE of the balloon. That’s how huge it
really is!

This is a close up of the basket itself!

The first balloon going up! Look at those flames!

This was our balloon. Notice the other balloons that were also in
flight at the same time!

Heaven!

I’m so excited!! It was such a beautiful morning!

Another balloon in flight near us!

Love

Some more balloons below us!

A view of the mountains through a hole in the basket.

Beautiful  morning for a hot air balloon ride!

Filling the balloon with hot air to go higher!

Looking up at our balloon!

Clear skies!

A view of the Grapefruit and Orange groves below!

We dropped low enough at one point to actually touch the branches of the trees.
It was so cool!!!!

…and going back up again!
