You pronounce it “Oh-Dis-Eh-Oh” and it’s pretty spectacular. It’s a traveling Cirque du Soleil type show that is now playing in Burbank, CA. If you’re in the area, it’s worth going. I took my sister and my eight-month old baby and all of us enjoyed it.
IMG_0013

The pop-up theater is inside a big-top tent that is the size of a 10-story building and can hold an audience of 2,000. Odysseo redefines the circus.
IMG_0019

I wasn’t sure what to expect out of Adele. But of course, she was great. She LOVED the show. She sat quiet during the entire show, completely mesmerized by the performance.
IMG_0023

We had awesome seats, really up close and she took in the sights and sounds and enjoyed herself. Proof that Odysseo is fun for all ages!

I am truthfully not much of a horse person (I’m terrified of them actually), but I couldn’t deny the beauty and talent of these gorgeous animals in the show. I was impressed.
IMG_0058

In all, there are 67 horses in the show (belonging to 11 different breeds). Some of them jumped, some of them ‘danced’… and all of them wowed the audience again and again.
IMG_0044

The performers were great as well. It was high-energy and exciting to watch. The lighting and stage was also impressive. The video backdrop is the size of three IMAX screens. And during the finale, the stage becomes an 80,000 gallon water tank and the performance continues in and around it.

This was Adele’s first live theater event and it is safe to say she loved it!

IMG_0105I love her squinty-eye face! We were looking straight into the sun!

If you live in LA, I highly recommend Odysseo. Tickets are on sale through March 24 and can be purchased  online at www.cavalia.net.

Outside the Box February 21, 2013

We took Adele to a class at Outside The Box on Monday. It’s a playgroup inside a mall near us that offers unique educational classes for babies. From their website:

“Outside the Box is an educational and developmental program consisting of facilitated classes which focus on brain  development for infants, toddlers, and young children through multi-sensory stimulation and specialized learning techniques.  Focus is placed on cognitive development and reached through playful and fun activities which foster attachment and bonding and create neural synapse activity the brain.   We play with a purpose!”

I signed us up for the ‘Older Baby’ class, which is for babies who are crawling but not yet walking. There were about five babies in the class that day and it was SO much fun. Adele seemed shy at first, but she totally opened up by the end.
IMG_9874

We started the class by singing songs and doing motions with our hands. But instead of typical baby songs, we sang new songs… in Spanish! It was very fun.

I get to do songs in my mommy-and-me classes, but it was new for Irving so I enjoyed watching the two of them participate together too.
IMG_9877

Then our sensory play began! We listened to tribal-type music and played with silk scarves for a few minutes. The parents threw them in the air and the babies touched and grabbed them. Lots of pretty colors were flying around.

And then we moved on to Magic Carpet rides! All the babies were placed on a pillow on top of a blanket and the parents dragged it around the room in circles. Surprisingly, the babies didn’t fall off. It’s a great exercise for their balance and coordination. Adele was giggling out loud. She was LOVING this.
IMG_9879

Sure, Adele didn’t fall off, but somehow her right sock did in the middle of the ride. haha
IMG_9881

After this, they brought out a kiddie pool filled with biodegradable packing peanuts for the kids to play in. Adele was hesitant at first, but then warmed up to the idea.
IMG_9892

They said we could put them in their diaper so they can feel the textures on their skin. It must have been a neat experience for a little baby.
IMG_9890

IMG_9891

And as if that was enough stimulation… they threw in some Mardi Gras beads too! It was like Christmas in there!
IMG_9897

After this, we did a drum circle and the kids had a blast banging on big loud drums and swinging tambourines. And we ended with a laser light show and light up super balls. Picture fifty oversized balls all blinking and glowing in the dark — all at once. It was cool even for the parents!
IMG_9899

We all had SO much fun at this place. We will be back! I hear they have Pasta Parties once a month too. They fill the kiddie pool with cookied pasta (coated in olive oil) and they let the kids play inside of it! They also have Jello Parties where they get to swim in Jello!!!! Seriously, think about that. How awesome would that be? These kids are so lucky!

Zimmer Children’s Museum February 6, 2013

Last weekend, I organized a play date at the Zimmer Children’s Museum in downtown LA. It was a blast and we had 8 babies and 15 adults come! The museum is so cute and I’m sure it’ll be even more fun once Adele is older and walking. But I would still highly recommend it for the little ones as well!

IMG_9665

They have a whole area called “VIB” (Very Important Babies) and it was AWESOME!
IMG_9618

The whole room is padded, making it the perfect environment to roll, tumble, crawl and play. All of the babies had a blast hanging out in there.
IMG_9627

Plus they have baskets full of squishy blocks and toys that they can play with. I think all the kids were tuckered out by the end. So much fun!

IMG_9694

Um, hi. She can stand? When did this happen? She can even stand without assistance for a couple of seconds now too!

IMG_9699

The rest of the museum encourages imaginary play and other sensory learning areas. Irving and I were more excited than she was, it was awesome!

We put Adele in the ball pit. She was not a fan. And I’m pretty sure she’s traumatized for the rest of his life. “It’s ok, honey. Just smile for the camera, you’re fine”. Parents of the year. Yes.

Guest Post: Aunty Loves Adele January 15, 2013

The following is a guest post written by Adele’s Aunties who came to visit us in LA last week. We had so much fun and Adele got totally spoiled with all the hugs and attention. Here’s a recap of their trip!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As Irving’s big sister, I’m also probably his biggest critic. I’ve been complaining about him since the day he entered my life, and I was no longer an only child. But last June, Irving (along with Kelley) did something that made me more proud than any sister could ever be: they brought Adele into our lives.
Now the brother that I couldn’t get rid of as a child has grown up into a husband and father that I wish I got to see more often.
Living more than 2,000 miles away from my little brother and his beautiful family is tough, and I miss them like crazy. Luckily, though, we get to visit a few times a year, and we always make the most of our time together. We met Adele just after she turned two months old, and we got to spend five wonderful days getting to know the little person she’s becoming now that she’s just over seven months old.
Here’s brief recap of the fun things we got to do with Irving, Kelley, and Adele while we were in LA.
Our first priority after a good night’s rest was to get some healthy, nutritious California breakfast. We found these at Crumbs at the Americana. (I didn’t manage to get a picture of the Squiggle cupcake we ordered until after it was mostly gone.)
Later that day, we headed out to get some healthy, nutritious California dinner.
The next day, Irving, Sarah, Adele, and I headed to the Griffith Park Observatory. It was a beautiful day, and we got some great views of the area from up there.
We also got to see some pretty cool exhibits.
Adele took in her first planetarium show:
We’d worked up an appetite by then, so we took Adele for her first experience with Korean food. She only tried the rice, and she wasn’t a huge fan, but she liked the atmosphere.
The next day, our mom came down to visit with all of us. We all got some great belated Christmas presents, but Adele’s were the most fun.
It really is amazing to watch her learn new things right in front of you. Here’s her first attempt with her brand new sippy cup!
On our last morning, we went out for breakfast and one of us tried peaches for the first time:
I swear she liked them, despite how it looks!
My favorite thing from the whole trip, though, was this:
I don’t think there’s anything cuter than a baby holding her own bottle.
Thanks again for showing us such a great time, Irving, Kelley, and Adele. We love you and can’t wait to see you again in May!
Thank you EJ & Sarah!!! Adele is so lucky to have family all over the country who love her so very much. Can’t wait to see you guys again soon!
Baby Does the LACMA! December 12, 2012
Filed under: Los Angeles — Kelocity @ 4:08 am
We’ve been meaning to get back to the LACMA for years so when the opportunity came up to go with friends, we were in! They have an awesome program that allows all kids under age 18 (plus one adult) to get into the museum for FREE anytime you want to go! It’s called NexGen if anyone in LA is interested!
Adele was proud to wear her NexGen badge!
IMG_8296
Mmm, badges are tasty!
Before we went inside, we checked out the new art installment outside called the “Levitated Mass“. It’s a giant rock from a quarry in LA that is suspended above the ground.
IMG_8269
Levitated Mass = Levitated Babies! (It’s embarrassing how excited we were to take these photos).
Me: Hey, Adele! Check out that HUGE rock above your head.
Adele: Who cares mom, check out my awesome Badge!
We checked out a few exhibits inside, but the highlight was Metropolis!
IMG_8303
All the noise from those moving matchbox cars was enough to lull Adele into a slumber!
IMG_8297
When we left, all three of us were exhausted! Adele graced us with a two hour nap so both Irving and I got a decent nap in too! It was heavenly and so needed.
What an awesome day! I’m looking forward to checking out a few more attractions like this with Adele in the next few months: LA Zoo, Long Beach Aquarium, Getty! Any more suggestions?
