I’m getting cold just THINKING about how cold it’s going to be on the East Coast!!

In preparation for the voyage into the artic New England, here’s a video I made back in college to entertain you.

Keep in mind that even though I was a video major in college…. I most certainly did not specialize in after effects. Enjoy!

**PS: I’m not sure why it’s a little pixelated, maybe it was the youtube compression. Oh well.

Well, even if I can’t see it snow for real here in LA… at least it’s snowing in my gmail!

My email “theme” is set up to show the current weather. See a previous post here!

…. so it must be some kind of trick that today it looks like this!

At any rate, it made my day today!

Wow, I came home to find a whole bunch of good mail today! A whole bunch of great christmas cards (thanks for thinking of us, friends!) We also got an early Christmas Present from Jake and Janie (hi guys!) but Irving wouldn’t let me open them til Christmas! But I did grab the cute Ornament they sent and put it promptly on the tree!! It combines my three favorite things: Cupcakes, Christmas and Ornament. 🙂

And then Erika sent us a HUGE box of homemade Christmas cookies!!! THANK YOU!!!!! Not only were they gorgeously wrapped, but they tasted ah-mazing. Look how pretty they look!

The note read: One great way of spreading cheer, is singing loud for all to hear. (or eating cookies!)

There were candy cane shaped almond cookies, chocolate cookies, sugar cookies and this amazing one:

I mean, how awesome is that combination! We quickly ate one of everything before dinner!

Irving was caught going back for seconds!

Thanks for the awesome christmas treats! We love them… and have to resist eating one everytime we walk past them! YUM YUM!

Our 2009 Christmas Tree! December 12, 2009

For the past couple of years, we’ve been going to Home Depot to get our tree. They usually have pretty nice ones for a good deal, so that’s what we did this year too! I think this is actually the first year that the tree had a nice shape. Usually they’re a little crooked or dead on one side, but this little fella was perfect!

We wanted to let it open up and settle a little bit before we decorated it, so we let it sit overnight. But I got impatient for Christmas Cheer, so I plugged the lights in anyways while we watched TV. haha

The next day, while we decorated the tree, I found a Yule Log “show” on demand. haha It’s basically a fake fireplace that crackles and christmas carols play in the background! I thought it was funny because we had our real fireplace going under the TV.

The Lights went up first. It’s pretty even without ornaments!

Perfect Christmas Tree Shape!

We collect ornaments from all of our big trips. Irving put up the newest ornament first! This one was from Stockholm! (Sadly we didn’t get one in Russia, but we got it on our Russia tour, so that counts, right?)

And I put up our new one from Iceland! Isn’t this so cute? It’s made of Icelandic wool!

Here’s a few other ornaments we like!

My mom made this one! It’s made out of a light bulb!!!

The sign says “Dear Santa, I really Did Try…” hahaha that was a joke from the year our whole tree fell over. haha

I present to you… the 2009 Family Christmas Tree! All it needs now is Presents!

Then we decorated some other parts of our condo…

We filled up a glass vase with extra christmas ornaments!

And we hung our stockings with care…

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!!

10-Miler at Balboa Park December 11, 2009

I ran my first double-digit training run last week at Balboa Park. I did the first 5 miles mostly by myself, and the second loop with my friend Peter.

I saw Chely at the start! They have awesome purple TNT fuel belts!

I started out good, and then my shins got super tight and I had to stop and lean up against a tree to stretch out my calves. I think with the cold weather, it took a while for my muscles to warm up. (Note the slower pace at mile 2 because of this stop).

But after that, i felt great! Sometimes I like to run solo. I swear I was running with a dumb grin on my face the whole time.

I had some Shot blocks in the middle (maybe 4 total?)

Yes, I can run, take pictures, and eat at the same time. haha

In the back of the park, they were shooting an episode of “Cold Case” I think. They set the whole thing up to look like a run down carnival. It was so cool!

My Splits:

Mile 1: 11:06 — 8:1 Intervals (run 8 minutes, walk 1 minute)
Mile 2: 12:12
Mile 3: 11:23
Mile 4: 11:59
Mile 5: 11:45

Mile 6: 12:31— 5:5 Intervals (run 5 minutes, power walk 5 minutes)
Mile 7: 11:34
Mile 8: 11:30
Mile 9: 12:01
Mile 10: 11:42

Isn’t it wierd how I went from 8:1 intervals to 5:5 intervals, and still maintained the same pace? I think it’s because our power walking was actually at a really fast pace, and our running was a little faster in between.

After the run, Peter, who is also on the Dana-Farber Marathon Team, presented me with this awesome shirt! I almost cried! That was so thoughtful!!!

I wore the shirt all day long!

Thanks Peter!!!!!!
After the run, I headed straight to the gym to do a few minutes in the ice bath! Sounds like torture, but my muscles were very grateful!!! Nothing like burning nearly 1,000 calories before 9am. 🙂
