Nothin’ Like a Fresh Tomato June 20, 2011

Have you ever smelled a fresh tomato plucked that day from somebody’s garden? It smells earthy, and tastes heavenly. You can’t really buy tomatoes in the store that have that aroma. There’s definitely something different about greenhouse produce. I grew up eating goodness from my mom’s garden. A handful of fresh cherry tomatoes with a sprig of fresh mint was the perfect afternoon snack. I crave those tastes and smells sometimes.

Well I’m not sure why, but I found some tomatoes in Ralphs this week that had that same fresh appeal. They almost tasted like mom’s tomatoes.

I squealed and said “Irving, smell this!” He looked at me weird, but it’s the little things in life that make me happy.

Paired with some freshly sliced pickles…

And you’ve got the makin’s for a fantastic homemade burger. (On a fresh whole wheat roll, no less).

I love summer. Bring on the tomatoes!

We had another boring, but relaxing day today. I spent the afternoon reading Twilight and relaxing while Irving watched some soccer games. I’m 250 pages in and I just can’t get enough. Ahhh, so good! Part of me doesn’t understand Bella’s fascination with Edward, and the other part of me is totally jealous that she gets to go out with him. hee hee. Congratulations, Kelley. You’re just like the millions of other girls around the world who drool over Team Edward (I haven’t really gotten to know Jacob yet, so I reserve the right to change “teams” later!).

Annnnyways, in other news, I convinced Irving to hang a bunch of pictures around our house today. It’s only been six years since we moved in. No biggie. heh! It feels so nice to have something on our walls now!

The first picture is really special because it was a gift from Irving’s grandfather. I had it framed for him for Valentine’s Day.

The second picture was a wedding gift, which we love because it looks like the lake that we got married on!

The third picture is a framed cross-stitch that my mom made for us. She worked really hard on it for almost three years, and we love it!

I did not play Your Fitness Evolved on the XBOX today (my legs are thanking me profusely for that!) But Irving did! I was a little jealous of his endorphin high all afternoon. But check this out, Gatorade has a new line of products called G Series Fit. There are three products, one each for before, during and after a workout.
IMG_5999

I haven’t tried them yet, so I can’t give them a full review, but we bought them because 1.) They were all free on rebate at Walgreens today and 2.) The bottle unlocks new workouts on the xbox… let me explain.

You buy a G Series Fit bottle and hold it in your hand…
IMG_6008

The XBox Kinect camera sees the product and releases exclusive content to you.
IMG_6010

Pretty cool technology if you ask me!

Thanks, Gatorade!

Gatorade did not sponsor this post. But I did get the products free on Rebate and you can too! Check your Local Walgreens for more info!

Yesterday was very productive. A mix of friends, working out, relaxing and getting stuff DONE!

7a – Wake Up and Breakfast

8a – Read Twilight for two hours while Irving fixes my computer!
IMG_5995IMG_5996

I know, I know, I’m really late to the Twilight game, but I’m OBSESSED now! It’s SO good!

10a – Walk to Trader Joe’s for some much needed groceries.

11a – Worked on my Travel Scrapbook! Got pages done for Helsinki, Stockholm, Tallin, Egypt and Dubai! I’ll definitely share them when they’re ready!

1p – Lunch (Salad, Trail Mix and Pickles)! I love Random meals. Delicious! Trader Joes has a new Peanut Butter Cup Trail Mix and it’s pretty stellar!

2p – Workout with the Your Shape Evolved game on the XBOX! Don’t be fooled. It’s a video game, but it kicked our butts!  We’re both feeling it today! My quads, hamstrings and calves are on FIRE!
IMG_5989

Irving did a long workout too, and I came out to the living room to see him doing Tai Chi. What? I never thought I’d see the day. My husband doing Zen Yoga. Really? If this is what the XBOX is all about, I would have got it years ago! hee hee.

4p – Cleaned up, prepped dinner, continued Scrapbooking.

6p – Janet came over for dinner! We made a Dream Dinner’s Meal:  Steak and Potato Kabobs on the grill. With asparagus and bread on the side. I’m not a huge steak fan, but I really loved these. I’m sad we don’t have more in the freezer!

8p – Irving went to Lowe’s to get man things, and Janet and I went to Michaels to pick up more important things like scrapbooks and craft supplies. I have all these nice travel pages, but no book to put them in. But I fixed that. So excited!

10p – Watched the pilot of Californication. We got through Weeds, Big Love and Entourage on Netflix, and now we’re starting this one. Is it any good?

10:30p – Lights out!

Happy Father’s Day to my Dad and my Papa!! Love you!!

Last night, for Irving’s Birthday, we took the celebration outside and headed out on a walk. There was some gorgeous evening sun, and it was nice to get some fresh air (I nixed my walk from work today in lieu of getting home sooner for his Birthday!)

IMG_5958

It was nice to catch up and chit-chat. And find cute things like this to entertain us.IMG_5959

Eventually, we ended up at our destination: Ca Del Sole. It’s an Italian restaurant that I’ve been dying to eat at for quite a while. I love Italian food!
IMG_5960

The menu was pretty authentic. You won’t find Buca Di Beppo quantities of pasta, but you will find really great, fresh, homemade food that you can’t find anywhere else. This menu made me really miss speaking Italian!
IMG_5961

We started with some crusty bread, served with an olive tapenade.  IMG_5963

I could have dined on the bread alone. Delicious!IMG_5966IMG_5967

We were seated in a cabana style section, it was really cozy and fun. And nice to sit outside!
IMG_5970

Irving ordered the short ribs risotto and also the veal tortellini!
IMG_5973

And I ordered the Pumpkin Ravioli. It came out, and I remember thinking to myself “I’ll snap a picture of it once the waiter adds the fresh Parmesan cheese on top… and once he did, I started eating. It was too good. So this is the only picture of it that I got:
IMG_5971

But the meal wasn’t over yet! There was still dessert yet to come! You can’t have a Birthday without dessert!!! Irving didn’t want me to tell the waitress that it was his birthday, but I couldn’t help it! It’s a very special day!

IMG_5974

So our dessert came with a birthday candle. It was only appropriate!
IMG_5975

Make a wish!
IMG_5976

Nicely done. Hope all your dreams come true this year!IMG_5978

It was hazelnut gelato with an Italian pastry, drizzled with chocolate. Mmmm! IMG_5980

Date nights are fun!
IMG_5981A Happy Birthday Indeed

Happy Birthday, Irving!!!

But wait! We’re not over with the birthdays yet!!
IMG_0462-Edit

It’s also my Husband’s Birthday! I’m so excited that this is the TENTH birthday I get to celebrate with him! (Gosh, I can hardly believe we’ve known each other for almost TEN years!) He’s a lucky guy….. wait, I mean I’m a lucky lady!

I mean, who wouldn’t want to be married to this fella!
IMG_3660 (2)

So for every year I’ve known him, I present to you 10 reasons why he’s the greatest:

  1. He travels the world with me. And even let’s me choose the destinations most of the time!
  2. He makes the bed every. single. day.
  3. His flat-paneled computer monitor died this week and he TOOK IT APART and soldered new capacitors onto the motherboard and FIXED it! Whaaat?? (I know, those were some big words, I impressed even myself).
  4. He can eat a whole sleeve of cookies like nobody’s business. I know. He’s amazing.
  5. He tells me I am beautiful every day. And he holds my hand when we walk.
  6. He reads my blog. And my twitter.
  7. He’s coming with me to the BlogHer conference!!!!
  8. He loves soccer, golf and frisbee. Yea, we should go play frisbee outside this weekend!
  9. He thinks nothing of jumping in the car and driving eight hours to explore a new city.
  10. He laughs so heartily while watching the Norm MacDonald show on Comedy Central. That show is pretty funny actually.

So Happy Birthday, darling!
Irving_30thBirthday_Hornblower 009

Hope it’s a wonderful day for you!
