The Third Decade August 15, 2013

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kelocity @ 4:36 am

Today, I leave the 20’s behind and enter into the land of the 30s. I spent the last day of my twenties sick in bed, which is not exactly how I pictured it, but hopefully that means the next decade will be full of health and (even more) happiness.

And now, a look back at my twenties. It will be a tough decade to top!

WHEN I WAS 20:

  • I interned at Frontline (PBS) and worked at WHDH (NBC) in Boston
  • Had an apartment in Boston
  • Attended Emerson College
  • Road-tripped with some friends down to Florida
  • Vacationed in Hawaii with Irving

WHEN I WAS 21:

  • Studied for a semester in Los Angeles
  • Interned at Entertainment Tonight
  • Drove across the country in a mini van with Irving and moved to Los Angeles
  • Lived in an apartment in the heart of Downtown Hollywood
  • Got a job in the television industry and fulfilled a lifetime dream of working in LA
  • Attended the Oscars and interviewed stars on the red carpet
  • Bought a Car

WHEN I WAS 22:

WHEN I WAS 23:

WHEN I WAS 24:

WHEN I WAS 25:

WHEN I WAS 26:

WHEN I WAS 27:

  • Celebrated 10 Years Cancer-Free
  • Visited Egypt & Dubai

WHEN I WAS 28:

WHEN I WAS 29:

  • Jumped into Motherhood and became a working parent
  • Visited Florida and Hawaii
  • Watched my daughter turn One!

The past 10 years were good to me and though I’m sad to leave it behind, I’m excited to see what’s next. Onward and upward!

Happy Birthday to me!!

-Twice this week, we took Adele for stroller walks and she lost a sock! We backtracked the first time and found it on the sidewalk…. but the second time, no luck. Why is it so impossible to keep socks on little toddler toes?

-Adele’s new favorite food? Corn on the cob. I have never seen her so excited to eat something ever!

-The pantry is clean and organized! Now if only I had enough motivation to attack my baking/spice cabinets. Sigh.
IMG_9975I spy Noodle Soup! Now I want some. So bad, but sooooo good! Don’t judge.

-I went through Adele’s drawers last week too and separated out the clothes that no longer fit. So sad how fast they grow!

-Don’t think I’ve posted this picture yet. LOVE!

-I got Bronchitis again this week! (The week I turn 30!!) Is this going to become a yearly tradition? Man, I hope not!

-I signed up for a challenge on Dietbet.com this month and so far, it’s going well! I bet $25 that I would lose 4% of my body weight in 30 days…. and I’m happy to say I met my goal (two weeks early)! I’ve basically started walking more and eating a 1200 calorie/day diet. It’s amazing what eating more vegetables can do for your body. =)

She works hard for the money… July 23, 2013

I turn my back for one second and all my credit cards are on the floor and Adele is playing with my money. I’m a little scared for when she gets older.

Adele has always been a great eater. We credit most of it to the Baby Led Weaning approach we did in the beginning. But because we have her in Daycare for breakfast and lunch, our philosophy has become a mix of different things. We did a little bit of BLW, a little bit of purees (only for a few weeks), and now, we’re in this new phase of toddler eating. I’m still feeling my way through this, but I thought I would share a little bit of what’s working for us now.

I used to put bites (bit by bit) on her tray and add more as she ate them. But then I realized she was throwing most of it on the floor… so then I had a lightbulb moment and realized she wanted to choose the order of the foods she was eating. Choices! Toddlers love choices! So I started filling up her plate and putting it in front of her. Like magic, suddenly almost ALL of the food was ending up in her mouth and almost nothing on the floor.

So for about a week now, she’s been eating her meals this way. I think she enjoys the freedom and I enjoy being able to eat my own meal uninterrupted now.

So what’s she been eating for dinner lately? Here’s a sampling!

(Note: She didn’t really like the sandwich, we’re having a problem with ‘assembled’ foods. Any suggestions?)

(I kind of de-assembled the sandwich this time and she ate more of it than the day before).

Basically I try to get a protein, a grain, a fruit and a vegetable into every dinner. If Adele had it her way, she’d eat only a big bowl of strawberries for every meal. She usually gestures for more, but I make her eat more of her plate before giving her seconds of the good stuff.

But truthfully, we had a 3-4 night stretch where nothing was dropped on the floor… but now, we’re kind of back to square one. It’s a “one-bite-in-the-mouth-one-bite-on-the-floor” routine that I just can’t figure out how to solve. Oh, and now, on top of that, she figured out she can flip the plate over too. Aye aye aye. Is this a phase? When does it end? Any suggestions? I think it’s time to put my food mat under her high chair again. Food is fun!
