You know how in the old battery commercials, the Energizer Bunny keeps going and going and the other brand starts strong, but fizzles out? I totally feel like the other brand lately. I wake up refreshed, go strong all day, run around like a crazy person getting things done and then 9:15pm hits and I just slam into a wall. I’m not complaining though because I really do feel great all day long.

Why yes…. those are green walls you see behind me!!!

Hubby has been working extra hard this week to paint the room and get it ready for the baby!

Baby says: I love you, daddy!!!

Full baby room reveal next week sometime when it’s all put together, but I am so in love with it.

Tonight’s agenda:

All that’s left on the list is ‘fold laundry’ and that’s only because it’s still in the dryer. Hope I can stay up long enough to wait for it!

But laundry is boring, let’s talk about my icecream!

-1 TB Peanut Butter
-1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder

My Kelocity Baby: 28 Weeks (3rd Trimester!) March 19, 2012

I’m officially into the 3rd (and final!) trimester!! Hard to believe that I’m already this far along! Time definitely has picked up and having  a baby is becoming more real! I can now predict sleep patterns of the baby and it’s fun to know when he/she is awake or sleeping. Last night, the baby was kicking so strongly! I told Irving to come feel it and once he put his hand on my belly, the baby stopped! So I poked it a little bit and woke it back up again so he/she would kick! And it worked! Mother of the year, right here! (Does anyone know if there is research that says that is a bad idea? I kind of felt bad after.) hee hee. I love you, baby!
IMG_1743

Yesterday, Irving and I went to the LA Galaxy soccer game. He is SO excited to bring the baby to the games. Maybe by the end of this season he’ll be able to! They gave out these shirts for St. Patrick’s Day. I was happy it fit over my bump… but then I just felt frumpy and unattractive so I changed back. HAHA
IMG_1749 IMG_1778

How I’m feeling: Feeling fantastic overall. My belly is definitely getting in the way more than ever. I bent over to put something on the floor this week and it seriously took me five minutes to recover. I felt like I ran up a flight of stairs or something. I’m not able to eat as much as I used to either. I get full after half a meal (sometimes less!)  Not too much room in there anymore. I am LOVING my bump though. I love when strangers comment on it and ask me when I’m due! It’s so exciting to know the world is noticing that little miracle inside!

Weeks along:
28 Weeks

Pounds Gained: 13.5 lbs Total  (Down a pound from last week! Trust me, I’m eating my share of dessert too! My doctor isn’t concerned though. I think the low weight gain is hereditary since my mom only gained 23 pounds total with me! Let’s hope it doesn’t all catch up to me in these final 2-3 months!)
IMG_1130b  IMG_1787

Pregnancy Woes:

  • Juuuuust heartburn! The tums are borderline not even working anymore. I need to talk to my doctor about Zantac or Prilosec (though I’d like to avoid that if possible).

Pregnancy Loves:

  • Learning about the baby’s personality! It’s crazy how active he/she is now! More than I ever thought possible! It makes me laugh sometimes because I just can’t believe there’s a baby in there!
  • Setting up the nursery! I can’t believe it’s finally time to start setting up the nursery! Can’t wait to share it all with you too!

Items we got for the baby:

  • Curtains! We ordered some curtains from JC Penney to match the valance! I think they’ll look great against the green walls once they are painted! It is starting to feel like a baby’s room!
    IMG_1741
  • Books!! I got a ton of books for the baby this weekend at a consignment store. I was SO excited. I can’t wait to fill bookshelves and read to my little one. I hope he/she loves books as much as I do!
    IMG_1735
  • Paint!! We Irving will be painting the baby’s room this week!! It’s a light green to match the curtains. And after that, we can start putting the crib together!!!!
    IMG_1737

Goal for this week:

  • Get the room painted!
  • Steam Clean the rug.
  • Move furniture back into the Baby’s Room and start to set up crib?!
    IMG_1739

Highlights of the Week:

  • Finding out I passed the 3-Hour Glucose Test!
  • Learning that baby is head down! I know that could change in the next 10-12 weeks, but it made me excited to know this!
  • Possibly found a daycare we really liked! This has been a somewhat stressful process, but I’m really excited we at least have an option we feel comfortable with. Feels like a weight has been lifted for sure!
  • Getting a new water bottle! I don’t drink enough water; I’ve always been bad about this. But I finally bit the bullet and bought a 22-ounce water bottle. Let the hydration begin (better late than never, right?)
    IMG_1733
  • I watched ‘The Business of Being Born’ and it made me SO excited for the delivery. I’m not too scared about it and I’m really looking forward to my childbirth class (which will be the end of April). It’s such a beautiful process and I really hope to learn as much as I can so I can enjoy it!
  • Ladies and Gentlemen: The Snoogle has officially made a re-appearance! It is no longer sleeping on the floor. I’ve been comfortably enjoying it for the past week or so. Whoo Hoo!! But I refuse to spend $25 on a Snoogle Cover (it’s a pillowcase, people! That’s ridiculous!) So I took four old pillow cases I had and sewed them all together on my sewing machine this weekend. Viola! Free Snoogle cover. Success!

I Passed!! March 15, 2012

As I mentioned before, I failed the 1-hour glucose test by only ONE point! They want your non-fasting glucose to be below 140 after drinking that sugary cocktail that tastes like soda. And my results came back at 141! But protocol is protocol and they made me schedule the 3-hour test just in case. I was REALLY not looking forward to it. You can’t eat 12 hours before the test… and then the test itself is around 4 hours long, so I went 16 hours without eating! This did not make my pregnant self happy.

After not eating since 7p the night before….

  • 7:30a – Arrive at Hospital and do paperwork
  • 8:30a – Arrive at lab and wait to have baseline blood draw
  • 9a – First vile taken
  • 9:30a – Baseline results are in…. drink sugary drink
  • 10:30a – Second vile taken
  • 11:30a – Third vile taken
  • 12:30p – Forth (and final!) vile taken
  • 12:45p – Inhale burger and sweet potato fries (!!)

Surprisingly, the time went by really fast, but the anxiety of knowing you had to give blood four times in four hours was not fun. My whole morning was spent reading magazines, checking email and taking pictures of my sorry self in the big mirror across from me (what? It was boring!)
2012-03-08_08-43-23_148

But all in all, it wasn’t that bad and I know it was all for a good reason. If the results had come back unfavorably, I would have taken whatever steps necessary to keep myself and the baby healthy. But thankfully I passed.

I’m still taking my health seriously though. I’ve gone on a lot of walks this week and got a lot of veggies and fruit into my diet. I ate a whole bag of spinach myself throughout various meals over the past few days. Including this spinach and apple pizza I made with a Boboli crust last night!
IMG_1722

And tonight, I had a spinach/strawberry salad…. and a whole head of roasted broccoli. Baby loves veggies!
IMG_1730

I had a wonderful OB appointment this morning as well, but I’ll share those details with you in my weekly update post. Some of it was exciting stuff!!! Third Trimester, here we gooooo!!

The Baby Class March 5, 2012

After the initial excitement of ‘We’re going to have a baby!!” set it… then came the “um, we’re going to have a baby?!!?” feelings. I didn’t really know how to hold a baby. I always preferred to be sitting down in fear of somehow dropping it. How do you know when to feed it? Why he/she is crying? How do you even play with a baby?!

They say your instincts kick in when you meet your own child. You just know what to do and everything turns out ok. While that may in fact be the case, we knew we’d feel more confident after taking a class and learning some tricks. So last Saturday, we took our 8-hour ‘How to Prepare for a Newborn’ class and it was awesome!
IMG_1641

It was a fun bonding experience for Irving and I too. To help each other out and know we’re going to make a great team when our little one arrives. At the beginning of the class, each couple got a baby for the day. Ours was super cute. Hi baby!
IMG_1621

The class was divided into bite-sized sections and it flowed nicely from one to the other. The first thing we learned was how to hold a baby… and then how to safely pass a baby off to someone else. Make sure to support that little neck!IMG_1643

I almost melted seeing Irving practice how to hold the baby. I can totally imagine it being real now. He’s going to be an amazing dad!
IMG_1644

One of the most important things we learned is how to swaddle the baby! Most babies love being wrapped up tight. It makes them feel secure and comfortable and helps put them to sleep. I think we’ve got it down to a science now. Bring on the swaddles!
SwaddleInstructionsWeb [source]

I just wonder what it’s like when the baby is squirming and crying at the same time!
IMG_1645

We also learned how to bathe a baby and change a diaper (there were demonstrations with chocolate pudding involved…no joke!)
IMG_1620

In addition to all the practical things you need to know… we also talked a lot about parenting philosophies, how to work together as a team and how babies affect relationships when expectations aren’t being met. We’re already planning on attending two more sessions specifically on the psychology of raising a child together. Interesting stuff.

Then we got into the math of a newborn:

12 Breastfeeding sessions/Day x 40 Minutes each = 8 Hours
12 Diapers/Day x 10 Minutes per diaper = 2 Hours
Fussy/Crying = 3.5 Hours
Bath Time = 30 minutes
(1 hour every other day)
Eating our Own Meals = 2 Hours
Shower/Getting Dressed/Personal Hygiene = 2.5 Hours
__________________________________________________________
Total of 18+ Hours of your day will be accounted for

When do you get to sleep?!?! Luckily we discussed time management and our teacher offered many ways we can multitask, delegate and find time for yourself too. I’m sure we’ll be overwhelmed when the baby comes, but I feel better knowing in advance what I’m in for.
IMG_1625

One more funny thing we did in the class… we were supposed to be reading a section of our workbook out loud to our spouse, and then at the same time, the teacher played a youtube clip of a screaming baby. It was so loud and distracting that we couldn’t get through the assignment. We all thought the clip had been playing for five minutes… turns out it was only a minute and a half. HAHA Guess I should learn early how to tune that noise out or it will drive me crazy! Shhh, baby, go to sleep!

It was a fantastic day. We really enjoyed meeting other couples, sharing stories, asking questions and learning all about what our lives are going to be like in three short months.

Any secrets/tips/tricks you have as parents/caregivers? Do share!

My Kelocity Baby: 26 Weeks March 4, 2012

It’s been a fabulous week. Last weekend I went to Disneyland, got rid of my bronchitis, went to yoga, had a blogger meetup dinner, took my 1-hour glucose test and babysat for a friend! Not to mention an 8-hour newborn class, a trip to Babies-R-Us, completing my taxes, grocery shopping AND cleaning the house. I guess you could say week 26 has been pretty productive.

The pictures in this post were taken during our ‘Preparing for your Newborn’ class this weekend, so ignore the “HELLO, my name is Kelley” sticker. hee hee. I’ll talk more about the class in a later post, it was so fun!
IMG_1639

How I’m feeling: Baby has been so happy lately, the kicks are coming so frequently now. Almost once an hour. It’s been fun playing with the baby too, I like to poke it back and see if he/she responds. I’m sure any day now I’ll be able to see little feet and hands moving across my belly. My cold has finally gone away, and I feel great. That was annoying, but I’m so glad it’s over with now! It’s nice to be out of the house this week!

Cue the awkward dance pose (baby LOVES to dance!):

Pregnancy Woes:

  • Heartburn…. oh, the heartburn.

Pregnancy Loves:

  • Baby kicks!
  • I’ve found myself craving lots of fruit this week. So refreshing! (But don’t worry, my sweet tooth is still alive and well!)
  • Yoga! Even though I had a tough time in class this week, I still left feeling amazing. I think I lost a little bit of my strength over the weeks I was sick, and I felt like jello at the end. One concept my teacher said stuck with me this week: “The universe is infinite, yet ever expanding. Just when you think you have maxed out on the love that you can give, you’ll meet your baby and your heart will just explode with love you never knew you had.” I almost melted when she was talking about this. I’m so excited to meet our baby!!

IMG_1637

Items we got for the baby:

  • Onsies
  • Window Valance for the Baby’s Room! (We needed it to match paint colors!)

  • Carseat… Grammie and Grandpa sent it it to us to welcome their new grandchild! (Thank you!)

Goal for this week:

  • Pick out Paint Colors for the room!

Highlights of the Week:

  • Taking our 8-hour ‘Preparing for a Newborn’ class… it was awesome. I’ll tell you about it soon!
  • 1-hour Glucose Test… still no results yet… eek!
  • Finally feeling better! Cold is gone!
  • My return to Yoga
