Baby’s First Rock Concert May 5, 2012

I’ve been dying to see Coldplay live for SO long! They are one of my favorite bands and I didn’t want to miss them this time around! Tickets went on sale months ago and I pretty much just told Irving we were going no matter what. He reminded me that I’d be almost 9 months pregnant, but we decided to go for it anyways. Baby loves good music.
Coldplay at Hollywood Bowl (1)

The show was at the Hollywood Bowl and for some reason we got there 2.5 hours before the show started. I should know better that shows never start at the time on the ticket. We clearly don’t go to enough concerts.

Everyone in the audience was given one of these funky 80s bracelets and were so excited to see what they were for.

Turns out they were actually part of the show. They all lit up different colors to the beat of the music they were playing. It was so cool to see thousands of them blinking in rhythm at the same time.

Here’s a video I found on Youtube:

We loved the show, they had tons of energy and the lasers, lights and wristbands were really fun.

But we were surprised that all those wristbands went to waste after. They didn’t recycle them or have collection bins. Kind of a bummer.Coldplay at Hollywood Bowl (5)

I think the baby liked the show, I could feel him/her dancing around in there.

Now we’re more excited than ever to play this CD over and over when the baby gets here! YES!

Handstand: The Proof! May 1, 2012

I know it seems totally ridiculous to want to bring a camera to a yoga class… but it’s been such an important part of my pregnancy that I just have to start capturing some of it so I remember it. I seriously recommend yoga to any pregnant mama, even if you think you don’t like yoga (like I did!) It’s amazing!

I’m still working on my form, but here’s a few pictures of my handstand this week!!!

Wheeee!! Baby loves being upside down!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Takeaway from class this week: Although we are concerned about the life beginning inside of us… we have to pay attention to the birth that is happening TO us as well! We’re being born into mothers and we have to celebrate the outside just as much as the inside!
Five(ish) more weeks until I become a mother!!!
The Bumpy Road to La La Land…
Filed under: Baby — Kelocity @ 11:12 am
[Warning: Whiny post below!]
Lately, sleeping has become the most frustrating and challenging thing for me. I just can not get comfortable, I’m always too hot and my mind won’t stop racing. I am 100% a stomach sleeper and with a big bump in the way, that’s impossible now.
I’ve tried to love the snoogle, but that thing just heats up and quickly gets tossed out of the bed. We even switched sides of the bed thinking the change of scenery might help, but it hasn’t made much of a difference. I even tried some lavender pillow spray, foam rolling to help with muscles and pointing two fans on me… and nothing seems to make a difference.
I started wearing a Fitbit last week. It’s a small device that tracks calories burned, steps taken, stairs climbed, etc. It’s like a pedometer on steroids, it’s pretty awesome. It syncs wirelessly with my computer and you can track progress if you want. You can also input food data and it tracks nutrition as well! (There’s even a mobile app to do it on the go too).
Irving actually adopted the fitbit before I did and he does about 30,000 steps in a day! After I have the baby, I have some serious catching up to do!
But I think the most impressive feature of the fitbit is that you wear it while you sleep (in a soft wrist band) and it tracks the quality of your sleep. You tell it when you’re lying down and it tracks how long it takes you to fall asleep and how many times you woke up in the night. Typically, people will roll over 4-5 times in a night….But check out my average night’s sleep!
Each of those red lines means I’m either rolling over, dealing with a calf cramp, getting water, using the restroom or just plain restless. So out of almost 10 hours in bed… I was actually only asleep for 8 hours and 17 minutes!
Now… just for fun… let’s look at LAST night’s sleep, shall we?! I was exhausted and went to bed at 7:30pm…. but I woke up 49 times throughout the night!!!! ugh!
Luckily I still squeaked out 9 and a half hours of asleep time somehow, but it is so interesting to see how pregnancy is affecting it. It will be fun to wear this thing after the baby comes so I know what time I woke up to feed the baby, etc! I think I will cry the first night I get to sleep on my stomach again!
My Kelocity Baby: 34 Weeks April 30, 2012
I feel… pregnant. I’m still doing great, but I’ve been getting more and more winded and uncomfortable, especially in the evenings. I just flat out run out of fuel by the end of the day. I’m also starting to feel a bit anxious about making sure everything is ready for baby. We potentially only have about FIVE weekends left and that just doesn’t seem like enough time. I’m content with the fact that my to-do list will never completely be clear… but I definitely need to wrap up a few loose ends in the coming weeks before I’ll feel ready.
How I’m feeling: The baby is definitely running out of room in there… there are less kicks and more squirms. Thankfully I haven’t had any jabs in the ribs, but I can tell the baby is positioned high and that is making eating and breathing difficult. You know that feeling when you eat too much and your pants feel tight? That’s how I feel all the time now, only there’s no top button I can undo to find relief. haha
I’ve also been getting a few stomach cramps. I thought they might be Braxton Hicks, but it sounds more like round ligament pain than anything else. I think everything is just being stretched to its limit in there. =)
I’ve also noticed that I have really strong urges to stay home lately. (Nesting, perhaps?) We even nixed our Palm Springs babymoon plans because I told Irving that I just want to enjoy some weekends at home before the baby is here. (But let’s face it, we’ve had our fair share of awesome getaways during the pregnancy, so we definitely don’t feel like we ‘missed’ out on anything).
Pounds Gained: 16.5 total
Pregnancy Woes:
  • Overheating! I sleep with the window open and two fans pointed directly at me… and yet I’m still hot!
  • Heartburn. Dairy really helps combat it, so that’s how I can justify a warm melty cookie and a glass of milk. Makes sense, right?
  • Round Ligament Pain (?) Just some muscle cramps around my stomach.
  • Charlie Horses during the night
Pregnancy Loves: I love looking at all the cute baby things in our house right now! I just can’t wait to show our world to our baby. I’m also dying to know if it is a boy or a girl!!! All my dreams are about baby boys now, so maybe that is a clue??!!
Items we got for the baby:
Nothing specific this week, we’re just busy organizing and trying to figure out what goes where.
Irving decided that the baby’s teddy bear would be the most comfortable tucked into the crib.
(All together now…. “aweeeeeeee”!!)
Highlights of the week:
  • Yoga! I love making new friends and chatting about pregnancy. And I love that my mind can focus on the baby without any distractions in there. And especially now, late in pregnancy, I love feeling strong and confident. (Hello, handstands!)
  • We had our 8-hour Childbirth Class this weekend! I loved it! We both learned a lot and it really made us more excited for what’s to come.
Goal for this week:
  • Doctor’s appointment this week!
  • Interview a couple of Pediatricians
A Pregnant Handstand! April 27, 2012
My yoga studio recently changed locations and their new space is 10x more awesome than before. Besides a bigger space and a cooler building, the biggest change is that the new studio has wall space! (The old one had couches and cabinets lining the walls to save room).
This may not sound like a big deal… but that means we could try out new moves that involved the wall! And it was pretty awesome and I wanted to share some! The first thing we did was a simple wall squat like this:
[source]
We did it three times in a row. The first time was to hold it as long as we could (my thighs were burning!) The second time, we did it by adding long breaths in and out. The point was to get us to focus on our breathing instead of the pain (good practice for childbirth!) And the third time, we did deep breathing and added a “Hmmm” sound to it. When you tone your voice, your muscles vibrate a bit and it helps your body relax. I hope I can remember all of this when I’m in labor, it is so fun to practice!
And later, I did a handstand! Well, an L-Shaped handstand. We started in Down-Dog and then walked our feet up the wall so we ended up looking like this:
[source]
It was so exhilarating to be upside down, especially with a big belly in the way. It took so much pressure off my joints and gave the baby so much room! And since my baby has been head down for months now, it probably felt pretty cool in there for him/her to be ‘upright’ for a bit. We did this move with assistance, but I’m dying to try it again. I wonder if Irving would be a willing volunteer to help me. (Irving, yes?) =)
I might be a total dork and bring my camera to my class next week so I can get a few pictures of me doing these moves. I have fallen completely in love with Yoga during the past eight months and I just renewed my membership for another 10 classes. For those who are counting, I only have 6 weeks of pregnancy left, but I’ll carry over my remaining classes to the ‘Mommy and Baby’ sessions post partum. I am SO excited!
