A Pregnant Handstand! April 27, 2012

My yoga studio recently changed locations and their new space is 10x more awesome than before. Besides a bigger space and a cooler building, the biggest change is that the new studio has wall space! (The old one had couches and cabinets lining the walls to save room).

This may not sound like a big deal… but that means we could try out new moves that involved the wall! And it was pretty awesome and I wanted to share some! The first thing we did was a simple wall squat like this:

We did it three times in a row. The first time was to hold it as long as we could (my thighs were burning!) The second time, we did it by adding long breaths in and out. The point was to get us to focus on our breathing instead of the pain (good practice for childbirth!) And the third time, we did deep breathing and added a “Hmmm” sound to it. When you tone your voice, your muscles vibrate a bit and it helps your body relax. I hope I can remember all of this when I’m in labor, it is so fun to practice!

And later, I did a handstand! Well, an L-Shaped handstand. We started in Down-Dog and then walked our feet up the wall so we ended up looking like this:

It was so exhilarating to be upside down, especially with a big belly in the way. It took so much pressure off my joints and gave the baby so much room! And since my baby has been head down for months now, it probably felt pretty cool in there for him/her to be ‘upright’ for a bit. We did this move with assistance, but I’m dying to try it again. I wonder if Irving would be a willing volunteer to help me. (Irving, yes?) =)

I might be a total dork and bring my camera to my class next week so I can get a few pictures of me doing these moves. I have fallen completely in love with Yoga during the past eight months and I just renewed my membership for another 10 classes. For those who are counting, I only have 6 weeks of pregnancy left, but I’ll carry over my remaining classes to the ‘Mommy and Baby’ sessions post partum. I am SO excited!

My Kelocity Baby: 33 Weeks (Vegas Edition) April 24, 2012

Well I think I can say that Week 33 has been the busiest week of my pregnancy so far. Last weekend was Sarah and EJ’s Visit, my Shower, an eventful week with my mom… and a weekend in Las Vegas (full recap of that coming soon!)
IMG_2430

How I’m feeling: Still feeling really great! Despite a crazy busy week, the insane SoCal heat and a roadtrip to Las Vegas and back, I still have a good amount of energy. The only change this week is that I’m waking up far more often to use the bathroom during the night, so my sleep is disrupted more. And my sciatic was annoying for a couple of days, but all in all, it’s still been smooth sailing.

Hee Hee my mom took this picture and I thought it was so cute. ha!

Weeks along: 33 Weeks
IMG_2439

Pounds Gained: 15.7 Total (But I just ate at ‘Steak N’ Shake’ as I’m writing this, so maybe it’s more than that now. ha!) My rings are still loose and I haven’t had swollen ankles so I’m goad I am not retaining water (yet!)
22 Weeks IMG_2566

Pregnancy Woes: Sciatic was acting up this week. And I’m just moving slow overall, but nothing too crazy. But I will say I’m getting anxious to meet the baby. I still have 7 weeks left (at least) but I just want it to come quick!
IMG_2468

Pregnancy Loves: Baby wiggles. Not feeling as many kicks these days since baby is running out of room these days, but there have been some intense flips and rolls lately that are visible on the outside! My whole belly rocks back and forth, it’s so weird!
IMG_2479

Items we got for the baby: After my shower last week, we got a ton of things! The nursery is looking more and more complete! My mom got us some diapers too! I heard we’ll need those! We also got our Stroller (The Jeep Liberty) and some other goodies from Jake and Janie (Irving’s aunt and uncle) when we were in Vegas!! Not much left to get now!

Highlights of the week:

  • My mom’s visit (relaxing, washing, sorting and folding baby clothes, some Hollywood touristy things and enjoying her company!)
  • My shower! So amazing to feel so loved by our friends. Such a special day and we had so much fun!
  • Doctor’s Appointment (Baby is looking great!)
  • Hospital Tour. This was a blast. We got to meet a couple of the nurses, fill out our admitting paperwork early, see three brand new babies in the nursery (!!), and get a tour of the maternity rooms. Very exciting.
  • Daycare tour (we weren’t impressed, but still glad we at least went to see it).
  • Roadtrip to Las Vegas! Got to hang out with Jake and Janie and Irving’s grandmother. It was a fantastic weekend and we were so sad to go home! (More on that coming!)

Goal for this week:

  • Our childbirth class is on Saturday!! It’s an 8-hour class and I’m really looking forward to it!

It was so nice to have my mom in town this week. We had a blast at my shower and it was so cool she was able to be there. The rest of the week was filled with a mix of relaxation, touristy things, and putting the baby’s room together.

Sunday night after the shower, we stayed in and cooked sliders on the grill. Delicious!

Monday, was ‘Marathon Monday’! Wish I could have been there to cheer on all the runners! I heard it was super hot! Can’t believe it’s now been TWO years since I ran it!
IMG_2321

We decided to go enjoy downtown Los Angeles for the day. We went to the gorgeous Public Library and then to City Hall. You can go to the top of the building and see the amazing views of the city. I had never been!
IMG_2322

Mom is afraid of heights, but I think she really liked it.
IMG_2324

We saw the Disney Concert Hall, where we took some photos a few weeks back!
IMG_2325

We were told to put our ‘visitor’ sticker in an ‘obvious place’. I chose my belly since you can’t miss it!
IMG_2327

IMG_2341

It was SO hot that all that walking downtown really did me in. I was completely pooped by the end. We spent the rest of the day home after that.
IMG_2339

Tuesday, we had a VIP tour of Warner Brothers scheduled…. or so we thought. Apparently I had booked it for the wrong day. Oops, blame the baby brain! But thankfully they let us on anyways. I had been on the WB lot before, but I had never done the official tour.

This was the old exterior set of ER! It is supposed to look like the L-Train in Chicago.

This is the soundstage that ‘Friends’ was filmed in!

They still have the ‘Central Perk’ set assembled in another building.

The famous friends couch!!

I wear sunglasses inside because we were in Hollywood and I have to be cool. Bahaha.
IMG_2366

I just realized how coordinated our shirts were! Totally on purpose.

IMG_2378

We saw a bunch more sets and got to visit the prop house. If anyone needs a ‘Seal of the President’, take your pick!
IMG_2383

I believe after the tour, we went home to take an afternoon nap, but before sunset, we headed out again to snap some photos of the Hollywood Sign.

Hi Daddy! Can you believe our baby will be born in Los Angeles? So surreal we live here!
IMG_2460

I have some more pictures from this little photoshoot, but I’ll save them for my weekly update. =) Oh, the suspense!

After this, we made a simple ‘Make-Your-Own-Tacos’ meal and then headed over to see a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Show. PS. This was the first time my mom had ever had guacamole! What?!
IMG_2463

The last day of my mom’s visit was all about baby. We had an OB appointment first. Baby is expected to be around 7lbs, 9oz! We’ll see if that’s accurate! Heartbeat is still strong and baby is still head down. YAY!

That night, we had our maternity tour at the hospital. It was awesome. I’ll fill you in on that in my weekly update post as well.

What a week! Had a blast! And now I need another nap. ha!

Tiny Traveler Baby Shower April 19, 2012

This past weekend, my mom flew in on Saturday night. We had a great time catching up, showing her the baby’s room and feeling for baby kicks. Sunday, we didn’t really have plans so we went for a 4 mile walk with my awesome running group. I think my mom was inspired because she ran a little bit too! I ran for about 5 minutes and then was too out of breath to go any further (ha!) Then we sipped tea on our rooftop patio and chatted about babies, parenting and all that comes with it. When lunch time rolled around, Irving suggested we go out. I was unsure of our destination, but we ended up at my friend Janet’s house.

When I was walking up, I knew something was going on, but I was not prepared to see so many of my friends and family waiting to surprise me.

I had to take a minute to take it all in, it was a little emotional seeing everyone! Especially when I realized Irving’s mom had flown down to attend. And his Sister and wife (who I thought had already flown back to Indianapolis!) were there too!!

Everything, everything, everything was amazing. The theme was ‘Tiny Traveler’ and all of the details were just SO adorable! The invitations were tiny suitcases!

We played a couple of fun games (including one that involved an embarrassing baby bottle contest) and enjoyed the gorgeous day.

And then came inside for cake and presents. I didn’t want to cut the cake because it was so cute!
(But I got over that real quick when I realized I could eat it after it was cut. Mmmm!)
