Weekend at Avila Beach July 30, 2012

This weekend marked Adele’s second weekend getaway! This time, we headed up the coast to Avila Beach (about 2.5 hours North of Los Angeles). We left after her first feeding in the morning and she slept the whole way up! It’s a gorgeous drive along the ocean and then through Santa Barbara. We love it up there. When we arrived, we found the weather was a good 20* cooler than in LA! Hooray for long sleeves and pants!

We call this the ‘sleeping touchdown’!

Although we always get excited to leave town for a weekend, our primary motivation was to introduce Adele to Irving’s Aunt and Uncle, Jake and Janie! I think it was love at first sight!
IMG_4553

She was such a good girl, showing off her good behavior and hamming it up for them. After we settled in for a bit, we headed into downtown Avila for lunch. We landed at the Custom House and it did not disappoint.

Adele let us eat quietly and then decided she wanted to join in on the fun too. It’s amazing to me that even at seven weeks old, she still wants to be a part of the action and she doesn’t want to miss anything! She’s always looking around, trying to take in as much as she can.

After lunch, we walked the boardwalk back to the hotel. It was a gorgeous day.
IMG_4566

A little too hot to sit outside in the sun, but a walk was perfect.

Baby’s first time seeing the Ocean!
IMG_4567

Hi Jake and Daddy! I think they had fun pushing Adele down the pier. She loved the bumps and it put her to sleep!
IMG_4571

After we walked for a bit, I indulged in a Snow Cone!!!! I had been craving one of these for weeks!! Mmmm!
IMG_4572

What a gorgeous weekend for the beach! So perfect. We are so lucky we live close enough to visit here!
IMG_4575

Someday, you can play in the sand with all the other kids, Adele. You will LOVE it!
IMG_4577

Back in the hotel, we rested up, and some of us took a nap. (Again, she preferred the giant bed!) This picture cracks me up. A big fluffy bed, curtains billowing in the wind, and the ocean and palm trees right out the window. She is seriously spoiled!
IMG_4579

We took cues from the baby and made it an early night. Adele usually sleeps in her crib in her own room at home, but that night, she stayed in the same room as us in the hotel. We heard every little coo and sigh and she kept waking us up, but she did sleep for 8 solid hours, so we really can’t complain.  Ok, I know, we REALLY can’t complain.
IMG_4591

In the morning, we all headed out on a sunrise walk along a bike trail nearby. It was so great! We covered about three miles total.

After that, we stopped at a deli to grab some breakfast. Adele again charmed our audience. She makes the funniest faces!

The rest of the afternoon was spent hanging out, feeding the baby, and reading stories.

(haha costume change!)

IMG_4600

Once Adele had a full tummy and had almost fallen asleep, it was time to hit the road back to LA.
IMG_4597

We had an awesome time and were very sad to be leaving so soon. Thanks J&J for inviting us up!
IMG_4598

The drive back started out really great. Not too much traffic, XM radio blasting, and cool air breezing through the sun roof.
IMG_4604

But let me just give you the bullet point list of how the rest of it went:

  • Baby starts crying 1 hour into the drive. Pull over at rest stop to feed her.
    IMG_4603
  • Baby goes back into the car seat
  • We hit CRAAAZZZY Traffic on the highway
  • Baby starts crying… but we’re not moving!
  • Baby starts screaming bloody murder in that “why-do-you-hate-me” kind of wail.
  • We get off at the next possible exit… which is FIVE MILES ahead! And we’re maybe moving 2 miles an hour. Maybe.
  • Finally get off the highway and pull into a gas station. Adele has pooped….EVERYWHERE. And I’d already used up my ‘emergency onsie’. Mom Fail.
  • Clean up baby best we can… feed her a little more.
  • Pacifier falls onto the ground at the gas station. Ahhh Mom Fail. AGAIN! No pacifier for you, baby girl! grrr.
  • Put white noise on in the car… baby finally falls asleep.
  • Arrive home 2.5 hours later than originally planned.
  • …..but once we all go to sleep at home… Adele slept for 9 HOURS straight. That’s my girl Alls well that ends well, right?

Totally worth it though. It was an awesome weekend!

Spontaneous Trip to the Beach May 7, 2012

This weekend, we bought a new family-friendly car and traded in Irving’s Jeep. But before we got rid of the Jeep for good, I convinced Irving to take the top off and cruise down to the beach for one last joyride in it together.
IMG_3000

With the wind in our hair and the music turned up high, we cruised over the mountains for an evening at the ocean. It might be one of the last nights like this where we can jump in the car and head out on a spontaneous trip just the two of us.
IMG_2996

You already had a sneak peak at some of our photos from the beach in my weekly update, but I wanted to share a couple more because I just couldn’t choose! We picked up sandwiches along the way and spread out a blanket and watched the waves crash over the breakwater.
IMG_2776

Then we set up a tripod and let the camera snap away to capture some of my favorite photos yet!
IMG_2697

The sun was setting and the light was perfect!

IMG_2731

We truly just enjoyed each other’s company and had so much fun playing around.

And when the sun was at the perfect place in the sky, I got giddy because I’ve been waiting 9 months to take pictures like these!

You really have no idea how big your bump is until you see it in silhouette. HAHA

Beach Post

IMG_2821

We kept saying how lucky we feel to be so close to this beautiful ocean and we can’t wait to spend time with the baby here as well. I personally can not wait to dip those little piggies into the water and watch him/her play in the sand.
IMG_2843

IMG_2870

So thankful I am to have this guy in my life.
IMG_2874

IMG_2873

Shortly after this, Irving said it would look cool if I walked along the beach and he got a picture of the footprints in the sand. Sounded like a great idea so I took off into the sunset…
IMG_2958

..and out of NOWHERE, a HUGE wave came and completely soaked me from the hips down. Definitely not intended, but it was pretty funny.
IMG_2944

And for your viewing pleasure… it was captured on camera!

Regardless, it was a gorgeous night and so fun to just hang out and enjoy the time together.

My Kelocity Baby: 35 Weeks May 6, 2012

WHooo Hooo!! I actually got some sleep this week!!! I’ve had 4 solid nights of sleep in a row, and man, it makes all the difference. I feel like a million bucks again. And when I get sleep, I get less cranky, so you’re welcome. I just can not believe how fast these weeks are ticking by. I had a friend deliver her baby this week almost two weeks early! This totally freaked me out because IF I were to go early… that would mean I have just 3 weeks left! Crazy! It probably won’t happen early (my doctor said there are absolutely no signs of it), but it’s crazy to think that it could!
IMG_2689

How I’m feeling: Feeling pretty good—all things considering! My stomach has seriously expanded this week and my bump is starting to seriously get in the way. haha. It was actually hard for me to do dishes this week since I couldn’t get close enough to the sink really. My mom asked me if I could still drive and I noticed I have about 3 inches leeway before that will start to be a problem too! The baby is really starting to run out of room, I feel bad! I bet he/she can’t wait to stretch out!

Weeks along: 35 Weeks
IMG_2890 IMG_2895
Pounds Gained: 17 total
 25 Weeks IMG_2691

Pregnancy Woes:

  • Braxton Hicks (I think!) Last week I thought I was having round ligament pain again (which had disappeared in the 2nd trimester), but now I’m convinced what I’m feeling are actually Braxton Hicks. I can feel them in the middle of the night and it feels like my whole stomach has a muscle cramp, particularly in my lower belly. Once I move a bit, it relaxes. Is that what they feel like?
  • Heartburn. Not even Zantac can kill you, heartburn. Hopefully it will dissipate a bit once the baby drops a little lower in a couple of weeks.
  • Pregnancy Brain. It’s getting worse! It’s actually getting funny how absent minded I can be now. BUT… in my defense… I caught Irving putting a carton of milk in the freezer this week and he admitted that was a case of pregnancy brain too! Can guys get it too?! =)

IMG_2903

Pregnancy Loves:

  • We had a catered lunch this week and I was grabbing some food for some friends… not one person questioned me when I walked out with four sandwiches in my hand. HAHA I laughed to myself. They weren’t all for me, promise! But thank you world for not judging just in case they were all for me. HAHA
  • I’ve also noticed how calm this pregnancy has made me. I notice little things don’t bother me much any more and I find myself letting go of things that aren’t worth fighting for (I’m usually pretty stubborn!) It is important to me that we create a calm, happy, nurturing place for the baby. I’ve been trying to slow the pace down and enjoy these next few weeks and savor every moment.

IMG_2823

Items we got for the baby:

  • We bought a new car!! More details on that soon.

Highlights of the week:

  • Had a great doctor’s visit this week! Baby is still head down and his/her heartbeat is still going strong!
  • We went to a Parenting class this week at the hospital. The topic was how a baby can affect your relationship. It was a fantastic class and had SO many great tips on how to co-parent, make time for each other, and raise a healthy child.
  • Went to a Coldplay concert!!
  • Did another handstand in yoga!
  • Enrolled in Daycare! I know, still five months away, but those waitlists are insane!

IMG_2690

Goal for this week:

  • I haven’t been walking much since I get so tired, but I am hoping to fit in a couple of 2-3 mile walks this week. The closer I get to D-Day, the more I realize I have to be fit! (I still want to try to swim at least once!)
  • Read up on labor/delivery/newborn care. Can never know too much, right?

Swim To the Pier!! July 27, 2011

Day two at the lake included lots of…well, swimming in the lake!! Seriously, the water is crisp, clean and fresh and you actually feel cleaner coming out of it. (Don’t worry, I still showered… sometimes).

For the past ten summers that Irving’s been coming to the lake with me, he’s been DYING to swim to the pier. Of course, you really can’t do that since it has heavy boat traffic, but he still wanted to swim as far as he could.

My mom is a really good swimmer (she used to teach and swim competitively!) So she and Irving swam away. I’m a pretty good swimmer, but my endurance isn’t that great right now. So Chris and I grabbed a fun noodle and tried to catch up!Kelley Pix (91)

Once we got there, I gave Irving my noodle and swam back completely unassisted! Swim for the win! I’m paranoid about touching the slimy rocks on the bottom, so it forced me to keep kicking!

Per summer vacation rules, lunch was served on paper plates right on the beach! (Chicken Parm Leftovers! YAY!)

Fun fact: Those blue napkins are from our bachelorette party on the lake!Kelley Pix (95)

I’m not sure what we did between lunch and dinner… probably reading, swimming, reading, swimming.

And then we eat again! Do you ever feel like that’s all you do on vacation is eat? At least the company was good! Beers for the boys!Kelley Pix (97)

They were working hard out there in the heat!Kelley Pix (98)

These guys are soul mates. Seriously. They’re so funny when they get together. Maybe they’ll be brother-in-laws someday (no pressure!)Kelley Pix (101)

Irving and Papa!Kelley Pix (102)

After dinner, we went for an evening walk to burn off some of our eats from the week.
IMG_6413

I’d walk more often if my route looked like this! How pretty is that channel. IMG_6410

This is Irving and my dream boat. It’s a Speedster. A mix between a jetski and a boat. Looks like so much fun!
IMG_6414

I used one walk to justify a whole day of eating… and then rewarded myself with ice cream. Healthy living? What healthy living?
Kelley Pix (103)

What a perfect, relaxing day. Everything about it was just perfect. 🙂

Easter at the Beaches April 26, 2011

We woke up Easter morning and discovered the EASTER BUNNY CAME!!!!!!
IMG_5580

Maybe he was impressed by our mad baking skills? Either way, he left lots of goodies for us! We were SUPER excited! PEEPS!
kel (83)

The four of us had reservations for brunch at the Madonna Inn.
kel (87)

It’s famous, but not for the reasons you’d expect in a renowned restaurant/inn. You’ll just have to trust me. The entrance to the restaurant looked like this:
kel (90)

And our table for brunch looked like this… actually the whole restaurant looked like this… Pink Pink Pink.
kel (93)

But the food was pretty good.
kel (91)

Drinking Pineapple Juice from a goblet is just plain fun if you ask me!
kel (92)

After breakfast, we drove up to Cambria and did a little antique store window shopping.
kel (96)

It reminded me of New England, everything was so cute!
kel (94)

We found s store that had all homemade rocking chairs. We spent a fair amount of time testing them out.
kel (99)

kel (98)kel (100)

kel (101)

kel (95)kel (103)

When I was little, my parents used to take us to flea markets and antique stores ALLLLL the time. I kept getting deajavous.
kel (104)

Wait, That’s not an antique!
kel (108)

And neither is THAT! That’s the year I met Irving and graduated high school! Whaaa? Now I feel old. haha
kel (105)

The highlight of the day was finding a box of old postcards from the early 1900s. Janie and I spent almost an hour reading through them. Did you know the price of a postcard was only 1 cent from 1900 til 1945? Some of the cards were really funny and interesting. I’d love to buy a whole box of these and track down the relatives of the people and see who they are. That would make for a great documentary, don’t you think? Some of them didn’t even have addresses, they just said “Mary Smith, Philadelphia” and I guess the postman just knew where they were! My, how times have changed!
kel (109)

We drove back down the coast to Morro Bay.
kel (112)

Check out this pimped out golfcart!
kel (110)
We had a snack (croutons and cheese from Pea Soup Andersens!)
kel (111)

Morro Bay is famous for this huge rock in the bay.
kel (116)

kel (117)

Also on the drive, we saw one of the California Missions in San Luis Obisbo. There are 21 total in the state. It was right near Cal Poly University. I love college towns. Everyone was outside drinking coffee and reading.

kel (120)

When we made it back to Avila, we had dinner at Fat Cat Diner. This was our view while we dined!
kel (122)
kel (124)

I drove back to LA solo on Sunday night, and Irving stayed an extra day to play some golf. Yesterday, he took the train home and I picked him up at the station.

kel (127)

What a great weekend. It felt like week long vacation, so relaxing and fun. Thanks Jake and Janie! See you soon!
